It came to my mind that I was one of the lucky people who were able to listen to the "leaked" tracks of Get Lucky, and that was
around August 11th 2009, so it is about 6 months now that the album is out. So how is your reception of the record? Still listening to it every day? Or has it lost some of its glory in the last few weeks?

I must say that there is hardly one day where I am not listen to at least some tracks. There are some new "all time favorites" like Get Lucky itself, Before Gas & TV (from the very first listen on) and also Cleaning My Gun and Piper To The End. Some songs still don't make it for me, I think I haven't listened to Monteleone and Hard Shoulder more than ten, fifteen times. The album has a very fine atmosphere and a positive, friendly feeling, even if some lyrical themes are very severe and serious - war, death, dying and so on.

I think the album is far better than KTGC, which I now ignore more or less, only In The Sky is still great, but that album has lost a lot of attractivity for me since Get Lucky is out. Now I am really curious which songs will be heard live on stage in a few weeks - I have hope for the above named onces and also for Border Reiver as a perfect opener!

For me, like I wrote in another thread, I hardly listen to it. Not because I don't like it, but because I love it. I refuse to put it in a small box. I only listen to it uninterrupted, in its entirety and on proper hifi. Now on vynil since I received the box!

I must admit, I don't listen very often these days, but when I do it's a real treat!

Listened to it a few times recently, and I must admit I was considering posting a thread a bit like this. I really do think it's up there with MK's very best work.

The only track I'm not so sure about is Can't Beat the House, not because it's a bad track, but just because it doesn't fit in well.

I was listening to Piper to the End about half an hour ago, and it makes me well up every time. I know a lot of people have Brothers in Ars played at their funeral, but I think I would like Piper to the End played. Smiley

I feel the same way about "You Can't Beat the House", dusty.  Apparently, Guy feels it doesn't fit in either.   I think "Early Bird" would have been a better choice.

I don't really think Early Bird would have fit in either to be honest, too "modern" sounding.

Good as Gold would have worked though IMO. Smiley

That's a very nice and noble way of appreciate the album, Rollergirl! I wish I had the strength to do it the same way... :Smiley

I shuffle all Mark's solo songs on my Ipod, so tracks form GL come up every day.  Up until now, GL would be the first album I played religiously in it's entirety first thing in the morning.  Still love every track.  Don't care too much for "time in the sun" though.  My favorite is still So far from the Clyde.

Have to agree with rollergirl about listening to Mark on the best system. It makes the whole world different.

Interesting Dusty, If I had to have a track played it would be along the lines of So Far From the Clyde - particularly if I was from that part of the World.

However a lot of people try to jolly up their funerals and a sad song would make everyone seriously well up - so mine would have to be something like Fog On The Tyne. (I'm Gonna Leave Old Durham Town would have people blaring their eyes out methinks!) A joke one of course could be 'Southbound Again' ! Work it out :-)

Monteleone and Hard Shoudler remain the skippers for me. Good as Gold would have preferable to both of these.

I can see your point about Can't Beat the House not quite fitting in, but it's a wonderful little track, isn't it? Funny lyrics, nice guitar playing and a really cool groove, from Danny's heavy drumming to the piano playing. Also, I like the intro a lot, where Mark "breaks the wall" (is there an expression for this?) and we hear the initial line to Chuck and the warm up guitar lines. It's fun and loose, which is really, really rare for Mark's albums. Wonderful backup singing too.

Aye, you're right, buit to combat this I could have Piper to the End segue into one of teh live versions of Local Hero from 08 or 96. Smiley (Sax just isn't as good)

I agree, I just dont get the Ok Chuck thing at the start either,it sounds completely out of place to me.I dunno maybe he thought with an album called Get Lucky that he had to have it in there to keep the casino/gambling theme going or something :Smiley
