"The three original members, Alan Clark, Phil Palmer and Chris White" ?? -     What about Mark, John, David and Pick, weren't they the original members?

Did you send this to the promoters? They were who wrote that...

Maybe is just they are ignorant people, or maybe trying to sell the gig the better they can?

Promoters...

I have a very different point of view, and I think all you know (and probably are tired of, considering the tolerance showed by many of you about this).

My point of view is that they ARE NOT Dire Straits, they are a band formed with three former members playing, with other musicians, the songs they used to play with Dire Straits, and they decided to call themselfs The Straits. Its not a bad name for a band who play Dire Straits songs, specially when three of them play with them. There are cover bands with names more close to the real one, and you know that bands...

It happens that they played a show at the RAH and it was almost full of people VERY aware that the were not DIRE STRAITS, and they were very HAPPY to listen the hits MK doesnt wants to perform, and being played but three of the musicians that already played them. I guess they enjoyed the show because they dont know this forum and are not able to embrace the REAL TRUTH that many of you show here (mode ironic off)

I think that the fact of talk about from the comfort of your home is very different that talk about it when you actually saw the band, saw the RESPECT they show to MK himself during all the show, and the care they put playing the songs for the fans.

And I do think that its a real and very good chance to people that never attended to a Dire Straits show to see Alan, Chris and Phil playing live. At least it was to me. But I

I think it was meant to have said "Three members of the original band", but once again, ambiguity.......  :-\   Or something was lost in translation!    ;)

After a charity concert, The Straits are now officially a farce with this european tour.

Legally they are a cover band so there's no legal breach.

No legal breach, no, but there are things happening "out of the legal" to try to minimize the Straits presence...

But we all know they are not a real cover band

Moreover I have listened to the very good recording jbaent provided us
and I must say that while the overall band is excellent
the lead guitar is totally unlistenable which makes the overall experience pretty bad, at least to me.

Several real cover bands have better guitarists.

They are a really excellent "half-band", I

why all the excitement.
everyone needs to earn a living :-)

Agreed. I don't have any problem with people making a living playing live music.

If anyone is stupid enough to confuse "The Straits" with "Dire Straits" then they deserve to lose their money IMO.

The only thing I disagree with is the way they tried to say that they were only getting together for a "one-off" charity gig, when thatwas clearly never the plan. Very misleading and dishonest IMO.

My guess is they didnt have faith in that the project will have success...

Actually, I was expecting some boo at the RAH, but I was very surprised and amazed by the reaction of ALL the RAh audience during the show. That probably encouraged them to try to do more shows. When you see that what you are doing makes happy so many people maybe it worths to keep doing it.

I doubt very much that a few shows is a way to earn a life, they are proffesional musicians, to play just three summer dates doesnt looks like earn a living.

I find some posts here very offensive to The Straits aka Alan Clark, Phill Palmer, Chris White and Steve Ferrone which are old MK mates and friends.

If there is something between them - I hope they will sort it out...
Let them sort it out without most of yours tricky efforts.
I read many times Guy's words to be distorted...

IMHO some posts here violate A MARK IN TIME FORUM RULES and GUIDELINES  - copy/paste

Discretion/Respect
Although it is A.M.I.T.'s aim to be more accepting and tolerant of "controversial" topics than other MK forums, we ask that you use discretion when posting a message. This forum is read by many Mark Knopfler/Dire Straits/Notting Hillbillies fans from around the world daily, so what you say will be seen and read by many people. Please keep it civil, and always respect Mark and his band members, family and his associates. All discussions that are deemed by the Administrators/Moderators, to venture too far into Mark or his band members' personal/family matters will be considered inappropriate and promptly removed from the A.M.I.T. forum. Next my step is to inform Guy how some of MK ''fans" are trying to put fuel and make intrigues using his words and believe me he would NOT be happy at all !!  :disbelief :disbelief :disbelief
