been listening to sooo many boots from this recent tour now and all i can say is that each and every member of his band are fantastic, it is bob imho who should not be plucking away on his guitar when mark's around, he is just not good enough at it to play with him, on stage.
when he is on his own, totally different story, but he should not interrupt mark, or stu or charlie with one of his inferior solo's, and stick to his harmonica/organ/singing.
any Knopfler, Floyd or Dylan will do....

But Bob is the boss, he's doing whatever he wants.
I think that you probably are not a good enough fan yet to understand the meaning of Bob playing and the way to achieve it. You still need to learn to get the proper key and find pout how superior albeit quite unusual is Bob when playing any instrument. This has to be to every others people on stage (and in ht eaudience too) to reach Bob's level.
If you can't get up that high, better's to stay on lower lever and enjoy DG, EC or MK much simple playing for casual listener.  :P

Some more or less crappy quick iPhone snapshots:

As the last one shows, my seat was in the very middle - "only" row five, though  ;D

Could this be some kind of misunderstanding, and Guy talks about being busy in general than being busy on the record? Would be interesting to hear your opinions on this one.

LE

My take on this is that Guy thinks that Matt's playing in general was "busier" than Jim's.
I think certain parts of Jim's playing is busier to my untrained (musically) ears. The little phrases? on the high notes in that "Delta" style (like on Fare Thee Well Northumberland and the Rag picker's dream) is what makes me interpret it that way? But that is only a couple of instances. So Guy must think that overall Matt's playing style is busier?

I have been listening to a few of the recordings from these concerts and on STP I am really missing the wonderful "conversations" that Matt and Mark had with eachother on the instrumental half of the song.   It doesn't seem to happen with Jim in the same sort of way, but of course, he isn't Matt, so there are bound to be different interpretations.  :-\

Yes, for me, too, that is the ultimate part, the reference song for any pianist, same with Sultans and drummers. In my opinion Jim didn't nail it until now. But we should not forget that it was him who created those famous parts on the album back in 2000, so it is more like "not back to form again", or maybe MK and his music have indeed involved so much since then that he cannot keep up. The same with his rather loud organ parts on Speedway: They are loud, but somehow too wild, not really fitting in the song in my opinion. I love however the organ parts on Haul Away, not sure if he or Guy does them.
