Great work!

One small correction: it's The Rocks And The Water, not The Rocks And Water ;)
Oh and Fireswamp instead of Firesqamp :p

Wow. great work. Love this list.
I've often wondered how many songs MK had done, but I always thought it might be more like 400-500,

One little mistake I found: You have 'The Dream of the Drowned Submariner" listed as "The Sream of the Drowned Submariner"

Other than that, quite an impressive list.

Updated with recent corrections.

I just realised on Local Hero soundtrack we have TWO 'The Rocks and the Thunder', tracks 6 and 13. Kinda strange but I included both in the list so it's not to interrupt the beauty of the perfect rows :lol

It's a PBS documentary about astronomy which MK made the score for. Heavily inspired by the blues classic 'Dark was the night cold was the ground". Not entirely a coincidence since that song is on the golden disc onboard the Voyager, sent into infinity (?) for other faraway galaxies.

The documentary can be seen here:

"My idea of heaven is a place where the Tyne meets the Delta, where folk music meets the blues."

long highway? did i somehow miss it in the list? great list...
now we need that in excel, with the perfomances going from left to right, and then simply cross when which song was played, et voila!!!
any Knopfler, Floyd or Dylan will do....

It's THE long highway. I love articles lol :)

Yes, would be great to merge two lists together.

- "Everybody's Pay To Play"?  :think don't you mean Everybody Pays?
- "Whoop De Doo" instead of "Whoop Dee Doo"

Thank you Hugo! Again and again. Updated.

Maybe I can somehow highlight songs played live? It's easier than to merge lists, as I think.

Hey all my fellow get-a-lifers. You know I love lists and I wonder once, how many songs Mark has written up to date? There are many collections, but they lack numbers.

So I decided to do a research. UPDATED 05 April 2014.

All the DS songs (officially released as Dire Straits):

Total: 60

All the MK solo songs (officially released + DS days + couple of co-written tunes + soundtrack songs):

Total: 136

All the MK instrumental music:

Total: 68 *Double 'The Rocks And The Thunder' tune is not the typo (check original CD), but counts like one tune anyway :)

All the MK unreleased songs:

Total: 16

Overall total: 280 tunes, 196 complete songs (words + music).

Longest DS+MK lyrics: Industrial Disease
Longest MK solo lyrics: Song For Sonny Liston
Shortest DS lyrics: How Long
Shortest DS+MK lyrics: Say Too Much :lol

Size of the all MK and DS lyrics: ~0,2 MB

What did I missed or did wrong? I'll correct all my faults. Let's do the complete and spot-on statistics :)

wow..so scary and so good at the same time ;)

Hello foma, I compared your list with mine and I've discovered three songs that I've forgotten. Because of your list, could it be that "Speedway at Nazareth", "Junkie Doll" and "Wild Mountain Thyme" from A Shot At Glory are missing? You might have noticed that already. Otherwise, my and your list contain the same songs.

I've collected songs (at the moment 94) written by other artists, where MK is playing guitar and/or is singing. If anyone is interested, please contact me.

I hope what I'm doing here is OK. I have very little experience with internet forums.
