Realistic suggestions for setlist changes for next tours
« on: July 22, 2016, 10:46:17 AM »
Since Mark finally pulled out On Every Street and Your Latest Trick for the last tour here are songs I’d love Mark to pull out for future tours that would fit nicely to his current presentation and could replace some of the songs being overplayed.

Eric Clapton has done the same with great success bringing in some of his material from the 70ies and I think it could be nice if MK tried to renew his live presentation just a bit giving the audience something else than just the newest stuff mixed with the obvious material.

Here goes...

Water of Love (96ish version)

Wild West End

Portobello Belle

Down the Waterline

Single Handed Sailor

Follow me Home

Once Upon a Time in the West

Tunnel of Love (maybe replacing Romeo or Telegraph Road)

Love over Gold

When it Comes to You

What it is (becoming a classic track which could replace Hillfarmers or Speedway)

Why Aye Man (becoming a classic track which could replace Hillfarmers or Speedway)

Won Two Crows

Gator Blood

Terminal of Tribute To

Basil

Hope Guy sees this :-)

Mark and his "Musical Director" Guy are not interested the slightest in what "fans" and audience want. Sad but true. Read the lyrics of Silver Eagle and you get an idea how he sees the people that crowd the arenas.

As you ask and use the word "realistic": Choose a song with as minimal guitar presence as possible but with a lot of room for the folk brothers or the Sax player...

Yes, great choice!

So Far From The Clyde would work perfectly well with the current band as well.

Val, believe it or not, I had that song in mind first but didn't want to contradict my initial post about "guitar presence"...  :lol :lol

I would buy a ticket for another MK show to hear that song live.

Before the Tracker tour I suggested that for my dream opener.  Love RAtR.  SFFtC would be great too - really got into that more recently.

There are a lot from the OES album I would like to see make comebacks:

PoNO - one of my favourite songs of all time.
YaYF - another great song.  Slow paced and I think suited to the way Mark's playing these days.  Replacement for HFB which has past its best IMO.
WICTY - good country flavour and perfectly playable today.
How Long - very underrated song.
Private Investigations - been listening to that recently too.  Interestingly, his most successful UK single has never been performed live on a solo tour.  Maybe 'The Dullards' just can't nail the more powerful songs like ToL and PI...
BLT - like to see this great song back in the set again.  Kroc style!
JD - love the solos at the end and think Jim would do a great job on this.

Also I must say that he must bring back TR.  Without it, the set really doesn't cut it.

Oh yes, Junkie Doll, great song, totally forgotten, some great 2001 versions!

Talking about revive old live songs, Darling Pretty was one of the best openers ever. Anyone agree?

The Scaffolder's Wife could be a good replacement for HFB, band would fit perfectly well, plus the playing out with that fat LP sound could be extended a little more... Dreaming...

I mean I haven't even recovered from Tracker Tour choices yet (I mean NOT played Taormina, Eagle, Beryl, Terminal, etc).

And you ask us about hypothetical next tour, I just don't get it ;D

Mark composed a song which is the Sultans killer (Beryl) and played it on promo shows only, Mark composed Romeo & Juliet killer (Long Cool Girl) and never played it at all, Mark composed Philadelphia killer (Silver Eagle) and never played it, Mark took his great message in Terminal and played it on rehearsals only.

Occupation Blues was a surprise, but previous experience says that this song choice was a product of no-drummer and book-song agenda.

So as LE said realistic choice would be something with folk guys or with a sax. And please expect no more than couple of new songs ;D

Words of experience there!  :)

Yes, if you would throw out 3 new songs, Golden Heart and put 'Done With Bonaparte' instead of Terminal.
