Great interview in my opinion, missed the first airing. Is there a simple way to download/convert this stream so it can be saved before it is removed from the site?
Very nice indeed, many thanks !!
Just thought that if BIA is his favourite DS song...Why the hell didn't he played his great renewed version more often in 2015 ? I missed it !

Thank you for this link. After a hard day at work taking inventory, it was nice to hear MK talking, although he sounded weak and weary with a lot of unpleasing mouth and tongue sounds... maybe he had caught a cold or something?
I loved the Wales gig story. And which version of Sultans was played again?

LE

Sultans was from the Honky Tonk Demos, LE.   I recorded this programme the first time around and thoroughly enjoyed it.  I loved the bit about Wales too, especially MK's Welsh accent and him imitating the way they said "encore"!    ;D

I'd say it was the alternative Sultans recorded specially for the single. The honky tonk demos version doesn't sound so clear and well produced...

Indeed.  I know he said he "enjoys" performing R&J but I suppose that's a different thing.

Great version of BIA from Hannover 2015 I listened to only yesterday if you want to check it out.  :thumbsup

I thought you hated the playing in 2015 ? ;)
As for me I think 2015 was very good for DS songs... Sax back in R&J, renewed energy in Sultan's, intro back in BIA, TR a bit short and slower but clear and enjoyable, new YLT and OES...
I have Barcelona for.BIA, which I love. Is Hannover better ?

Sultans is listed below the programme as :

Sultans of Swing (Charlie Gillett Session)
The Honky Tonk Demos EP

Oh... Listening to it I was sure it was the single version because of how well produced it was, but if the BBC site says that... I remember the Honky Tonk version as more rough, more amateur... The single version sound produced with more care...

I thought it was Honky Tonk Demo version... Sounded crappy!

Hard to believe something so shitty sounding started a bidding war.

The BBC uses top notch professional equipment so it is not uncommon for tracks to sound "better than" (or, perhaps, different from?) the same tracks played on domestic equipment, however good.

Just out of interest, BBC Radio 4 recently had Bruce Springsteen on its long-running (very long-running) series DESERT ISLAND DISCS. That was broadcast as a 45-minute programme, which is the norm, but, on the BBC website, it is there in an expanded version lasting about 1 hour:-

I think that´s the date of the demo tapes recording, but it was made in Islington (Pathway Studios), not in Greenwich (Wood Wharf Studios. where they used to rehearse from 1977 to 1985, the one they can be seen rehearsing in the Arena 80 documentary).

Also the demo tapes had been "remastered" for the Honky Tonk Demos double 7" released two years ago, so it would sound better than the one in the original Honky Tonk Demos lp and cd released long ago by Charlie Gillett in his own label.
