Less big OES tour - Dire Straits "alive" today"?
« on: April 11, 2017, 12:20:19 PM »
I think the big size of OES tour was bad, bad idea. MK had dificult at home, he become bored on tour and later must to "run away from DS and never come back".

My hypotesis is small scale production for OES, like MK solo tour, DS could survive to today. The band could make development, go new direction, not only hold to old hits. Sad.

Because John Illsey and MK own DS name I will love if they make DS a pub band again  ;D Like "hobby band"  :thumbsup

But a DS comeback will be followed by a hugh demand from the public, so they will have to play stadiums again to reach all the people that would want to see them...

...which is especially funny given the fact that 95% of them would come to hear just one song, you know that one — it's about sultans.
I don't think OES tour was a bad idea, and even if it was, I'm pretty sure if you ask Mark, he would say he wouldn't change anything.

Nowadays, when such big groups come back even for a tour, the demand is so high that they have to do stadiums, which is totallt the opposite that Mk wants these days...

Just imagine that DS announce one week in a row at the RAH or the O2, tickets will sold out in less than a minute for the whole week...

Not necessarily - remember all the demand to see the NHB and they only played about a week at Ronnie Scotts.

It's an interesting theory but apparently arguments were had very early on in the tour anyway and so I'm not sure just what difference it would have made.  Perhaps the sheer scale and pressure made it like living in a pressure cooker for them?

The BIA tour was arguably bigger in terms of pressure, if not scale and Mark didn't really seem so tired on that.  Maybe just a little, but we don't have many recordings from the Australasian leg.  I think the final show in Sydney sounds a bit tired anyway.

His solo career coincided with a new direction his life took when he met Kitty so perhaps that has something to do with it as well.  Darling Pretty - Darling Kitty.

I don't think DS should reform though.  You can't repeat the past.

I think it is too late now to get a good DS reunion but some years back it would have been awesome.

RIP Dire Straits.

DS should not go back to exist again now, it is to late.

But I think OES tour was misstake cause DS and managment wanted to make copy of big times from BIA time.

DS was "tool" for MK songs and could have continue in musical direction like MK solo career, but because it was a band it feel bigger then only MK alone. I hope you understand what I try say. But MK has strong will and maybe feeled DS was making blocking to him. Too many democratic things to bother about.

Only speculate from me. I am sad anyway that DS is not anymore, not big, huge stadion DS, but DS with evolution. MK and JI are very special on a stage together. No chemistri like this in solo concert.

MK often said that it is possible that DS come back together for charity reason. But it did not happen since the split of the band. Maybe it must be something special like Live Aid 3. We should ask Mr.Geldof ;)

By the way, Abba was offered 1 billion euro for a comeback concert....but money is not the thing to motivate MK.
All in one,  if i had the choice: it's better to have a new solo album with fresh material than a greatest hits tour

If I was confident Mark would make a good job of the classics I would love to hear them all again.  Those days are gone now.  :'(

Or he could just play TOL one more damn time...

Fair compromise  :)
