I went tonight to see John and he properly rocked. More than any MK outfit at the moment. Phil Palmer stood in the shadows mostly but stepped up to the task for mfn and sos.

Glad you enjoyed the show Banjo.  Pity John's not coming north or I'd go to see him.  Sounds good.

I was there too, it was a really good gig.  I love the tone of John's bass and the setlist was a great balance of new and old.  Some of his new songs, like Railway Tracks were really great rocking tunes and he had a good band behind him.   Expresso Love was very well received.

They finished on Pink Floyd's Brick in the Wall - John's bass was perfect for this surprising and perfectly executed cover.

Venue was lovely and intimate.  A great night.

I'd love to hear John's cover of Pink Floyd. Any YT videos ?

Can you post up the full setlist?

I didn't, but this guy did at this link:

http://www.northernwolf.co.uk/news/glastonbury-2014-live-saturday-metallica-jake-bugg-lana-del-rey-telegraph-co-uk

"Fortunately Rupert Hawksley has been spending his time away from such pop nonsense and in the presence of some proper rock musicians. He also snapped a picture.

Making the trek up the muddy hill to the Acoustic Stage proved to be worth every precarious step. Who should I find there but Dire Straits's bassist John Illsley with his band playing Walk of Life. The crowd want more Dire Straits material but I think they're going to have to be patient. The man's got an album to promote after all!

John Illsley, in the words of Rupert Hawksley, "rocking like a boss"

Oh yes, and he also features at Number 2 of the Telegraphs best moments of Glastonbury 2014 here:

Thanks for that - very funny:

"Looking every bit like a rock n roll Bill Nighy, Illsley launched into a ferocious rendition of Sultans of Swing. The 65-year-old was so out of breath by the end, he was unable to speak

Hmm...Mark never exerts enough energy to get out of breath these days.  :(
And thank goodness, this means that his heart is still in good nick  :)

I said the Jazz Cafe gig was properly rocking. I went with quite low expectations but was proved completely wrong. I bet Glastonbury was even better.

is it Robbie McIntosh on guitar ? (seems to be a Beltona)

I am in awe of what some of you guys can do!   Listen to a recording and be able to name the guitar on it.   I can identify a few (a very few) of the guitars MK uses, but some of you can probably recognize almost any !   Seriously!   That is an awesome ability.
But a spoonful of forgiveness
Goes a long, long way
And we all should do our best
To get along

Pretty good version of SoS, I quite like the way John sings the DS songs.
