A thread for when we spot one of the many session musicians who have played with MK over the years, not playing with MK.
To kick things off, here's a young Phil Palmer on a cracking Jim Diamond track.

Love that. Memories of Sunday night and settling down to another episode of Boon.
-
Boon was great. Wonder how it holds up these days.
And of course there is the MK/Jim Diamond Auf Wiedersehen, Pet connection.

Still, not really like he is doing the great playing. By the way, anyone else noticed marks latest dig at the legacy troup, on the new cd, forgot which song?

One Song At A Time.
Or any more poor old fakers
Trying to dance in my old shoes
I’ll be gone over the ocean
With the transatlantic blues

You could almost pick anything out of Nashville and one of the 96ers will be in there.
I would like to lift (not Sonny Landreth this time)
Mike Henderson, who co-wrote Broken Halos together with Chris Stapleton. It won a Grammy this year for best Country song. It has 63 million plays on Spotify. Almost as many as R&J.

Good on him! Well deserved success.

Which leads me straight to RB being a part of the humorous country supergroup The Notorious Cherry Bombs. And in this video he's got a cameo as a hair dresser.
Also, Vince Gill 😂

This album (vol 1) is all kinds of excellent.
Chris Stapleton, Jason Isbell and Sturgill Simpson are amazing contemporary artists who are keeping country alive.

Steve Earle is my second favourite artist.
When I met RB backstage in Newcastle in 2008 I asked him what he thought of Earle's (then) latest album.
He said "You know, I think it's the best thing he's ever done"
I gave my opinion that while it was good, it wasn't as good as Guitar Town (which RB coproduced) and he thanked me for that.
Guitar Town is a perfect album, not one bad song on it, and while it's heresy round here, I don't think MK has ever made as good a record as that.

Mike Henderson with Glenn Worf. Possibly the Les Paul bass pictured on the new album?

I love Chris, never understood the amount of critique his drumming gets. I mean, what's so wrong with On Every Street tour drumming? Even Mark have said something bad about it.
-
The only thing you could say about it is it’s a bit robotic, same every night, not much personality.
But you can also say that he was told to be like that, the whole band was the same.

Stuart Duncan tearing it up at an empty Ryman Auditorium with the great Sturgill Simpson.
Some excellent bluegrass here folks!

you seem to be the main supplier here dusty...not that i am complaining...

It will catch on soon I'm sure!
I've always been interested in "other" musicians, going right back to reading the sleeve notes on records.
It's very interesting seeing how many of these guys work with different artists that I like.
Even now when I'm buying old country records I'll sometimes get them even if I haven't heard of the artist, just because of the musicians involved.

I'd love to see Robbie playing live with MK one day again!

Robbie is just an amazing guitarist and a very sociable chap too...
-
Robbie is just so good. Thanks for posting.

Didn't remember that Hamish and Robbie played together in the McCartney's band during the 1990 tour... the one when they played Knebworth!

Jim Cox turning up on this great Lyle Lovett track. I was surprised as he usually has Matt Rollings in his band!

Found this singer/songwriter called Samuel Smith. His album In The Springtime is great. Plus he managed to get Matt Rollins and Stuart Duncan to play on it after a diagnosis of Parkinsons.
