Wow, why people even bother to record something like this and upload it?
Buy a good camera, learn it properly, buy a good mic, record it properly.
I'm completely with Guy on this subject. Hate these quickie trash covers.

The kid looks 12 yrs old! At least he has the good taste to try emulating great music. I'd rather give him kudos for that. Well done kid, keep up the playing style.
Hey, i`ve got a truffle dog - finally a song the ordinary man can relate too!

Agree with you, Fletch, from positive prospective, in other hand it's great idea to actually practice without blinking red dot.
I'd rather see this kid after 5 years doing this song without original playing and with good technique and stuff, this is my point.

Beryl (Mark Knopfler)

LYRICS
Beryl, was on another level
When she got her Booker medal
She was dead in her grave
After all she gave
After all she gave

I'll hear Sultans again.

Mind you, I'm a billionaire businessman and I've hired Mark and his band to play at my private party.

In case of Sultans 'to kill' means 'to save'. It was right moment to stop playing it, and I think it will be heard, but rarely (at dustyvalentino parties).

So is there a piano in the intro of "Beryl" or not? I like the sound in the background that resonates with the last note of the intro very much. Is it Guy on piano?

There are certainly piano in the intro. And it resonates so well just because of absence of third in the last chord, if it means something to you anyway.

Nope.

Must be the magic of music that I have no clue of. But it DOES sound very nice!

Thanks for trying, foma.  :wave

There are no third in penultimate chord either, hence the overall tension and power of the ending.
That's exactly why power chords (which is chords without third) was named 'power chords'.

Yes, it's a kind of magic, but I bet it was done by accident, more like an automatic motion.

I think Sultans will be played next tour. Just like last tour. Maybe not that often, but it will be played. Would be some disappointment if not...

Haha! No, seriously, I can go on and on forever just discussing these two chords. From the musical point of view I can explain almost everything and say exactly why this note or chord was chosen, and that's the reason for the fast transcribing process. I love when music is not subjective, but objective thing. Mark's music (and especially riffs) often contain certain parts that give the overall sound of the song, and together with complex right hand playing this is that people would call his 'style'.

Although this all been said, the very last chord of the song, in the very ending HAVE third in it, it was played by Guy on his organ.

This is almost baroque-style ending, see 'And I Love Her' for example. So these little things like this just blows my mind.

When Sultans was played stripped-down again in 2001, I was pretty sure from the beginning that the reason was What It Is with its similar structure, with a first solo and a slow quiet part followed by a build-up end solo etc.
