Post by: localhero635 on October 25, 2014, 03:29:30 PM
Hi, I'm new here.
I'm a huge MK fan.
I'm japanese.
So i'm bad at english grammer.
I think MK played the guitar in"Young Turks"(Rod Stewart).
URL is here.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rgczlrYM4eI
But there is no information on internet about who played the guitar in the song.
Does anyone know about it?

I've read somewhere previously that it was him....maybe someone else can confirm.

He certainly played guitar on If I Had You from the Human album by Rod.

Nice link. Although it always amuses me when MK is referred to as a Scotsman. :)

I wonder what nationality MK considers himself to be? - Probably British as opposed to Scots or English.
I remember a short interview he did in a Scottish newspaper; he was talking about the forthcoming charity record he played guitar on, in aid of the Dunblane tragedy. In that interview he described himself as Scottish. But that was about 20 years ago.

Welcome to the best MK forum, localhero635!

Jim Cregan plays guitar on Young Turks. The article states MK as an influence, not that he plays. And yes, the sound reminded me of MK when I first heard the song. Probably because Rod like a perfect chameleon, always went for the songs or sounds that were hip or could become hip with his treatment. And in 1981, Making movies was one of the most original sounding pop records all around. And the guitar sound had a lot to do with it. The only Rod Stewart  song in which MK plays guitar is (as mentioned) If I had you, which is not the DS song.

MK was born in Scotland and clearly has a great affinity for the country and our music,  but he's a Geordie through and through and therefore English.

That said, I always feel that Geordies have more in common with we Scots than the rest of England. :)

Just stumbled accross this, because I thought the samer thing, and I wanted to add:

If you look in the description of the official music video on youtube, you can see Mark Knopfler listed as one of the guitarrists on there.

Edit: Not the official music video, but the official song link on youtube:

Yes, I see it now. Thank you! I have this box set by Rod. No mention in there either. Maybe a mistaken mention?
