Some news from Elian who is in Antwerp.
Why Aye Man and Cleaning My Gun played tonight. No Get Lucky, no Monteleone and no Piper !
A "very big" gig, better than London, more rock.

Here is the setlist :
Border Reiver
Why Aye Man
What It is
Sailing to Philadelphia
Cleaning My Gun
Hill Farmer's Blues
Romeo & Juliet
Sultans of Swing
Done With Bonaparte
Marbletown
Speedway At Nazareth
Telegraph Road

Encores
Brothers in Arms
So Far Away

Elian said that apparently MK seems suffering a little, the band was ok for a last title (Piper ?) but it was too much for MK.

yes
so no coyote, no prairie, therefore cleaning and Why Aye man (second song)
very much q rocking show indeed, today elian was right ;-)
he should have told us he would be there.
the only dissapointment was no "end song"
before the show started i happened to go round the back of the hall, only to see am12345 from (mainly) over at the mknezs forum, who had managed to get a little get together with Richard. so i grabbed my chance and said hi.
top guy that Richard.
i hope i left he best possible impression of my hometozn on Isaac, whom i showed aroundin antwerp (check his blog tomorrow)
cool to see wlbmk, currywurst+hagelslag and am12345 again, as well as jeroen brouwers and jeroen van tol:
imho, this was one of their best, albeit shortest shows of this tour!

biggest difference was that mark made far shorter band introductions then in London, spoke way less as well, as if he assumed we do not speak well enough English.

Thanks a lot for the fast news Localhero and thanks a lot to Elian also for keeping us informed,For me this is the perfect setlist ,I hope Why Aye Man and Cleaning my Gun stay in the set for as long as possible ,could be really good if he played Piper too but I think Mark's health is something more important than just a song! I hope he soon recovers from all this pain!

Well it would be perfect with Wild Theme  :lol
The "problem" is that tonight show was only 14 songs.
We're so far from the long 96 setlist, for example Vaison :
Darling Pretty
Walk Of Life
Imelda
The Bug

Hmmmm Mark, a little "Water of love" or "Your own sweet way" would be good sometimes  ;)

Yes, Vaison 96 is a hell of a show. Best ever TR, longest and best ever SoS, fantastic Water Of Love and LH.... Too bad that it was to early in the solo carrer

So, Pottel, you are obviously the first forumer that bought the stick? How is it? Are the encores on it or do you have to download them?
Therefore, anything to report about it?  :)

I just can't believe you are all still complaining about set-lists and how short the concert was compared to Vaison, when he was much younger and fit and well!

Has it occurred to any of you that he was obviously suffering, not only with the heat, but also the pain he is still enduring!  I think we are all very lucky he is still continuing with this tour at all!    Please be thankful!

Hi Val,
I was not complaining at all, it was humour (as if MK was reading this forum)  :)
Just watched at Vaison to remember, indeed it was almost 15 years ago.
And about pain that was I said in my first post about Antwerp, it seems he was still suffering. That could explain the "short" show.
Of course he can still cancel the rest of the tour, so lucky you who have already seen him this year.
David

Hi There,

my first post to this forum. I met Maarten at the beginning. Nice talking to you!.

Yesterday was a great concert. The ending was very abrupt, I suppose because MK was suffering. Nevertheless I agree with some of the comments that this was a rocking one. Only in Speedway i missed Danny going wild behind the drums and the camera. Romeo was wonderful.

Lets go to Amsterdam at the end of this month.

O yes, I bought the stick. Very nice, very nice. 8 songs, the others to download. I have just registered but the songs are not yet available.

Good luck to MK and all of you. Get Lucky!

Hans

Sorry, David, I do realise that I am one of the lucky ones, but when I read that MK was certainly not "himself" last night I actually felt, for the first time,  that there was a real possibility he may not complete this tour, due to his health problems.   I think we need to remember that he is no longer young and cannot do those long shows anymore.   I hope you will have a great time at your concerts.   :)

To all: Don't worry too much. It was a great show, it rocked, MK was in a good mood, he actually waved before the start to some of us on front row, he smiled a lot. The show rocked, the audience was pretty loud, and it was f...g hot. And some idiots were filming again, so the finger of death was pointing twice to the same person. That may have annoyed MK, after starting in a very good mood!

Especially John and Mike were suffering a lot from the heat, they play, drip drip drip, lot of sweat on the floor, keep on playing ... drip drip drip ... and so on. This was the first time I saw them using the towels a lot. MK didn't have to much sweat, so it could be that that was the problem, as long as you are sweating you cool down yourself a little.

MK stood up for a standing end of Speedway (excellent!!)

The show had a short setlist, 14 songs only but still lasted 1 hour 50 minutes.

Hopefully the airco tonight in Frankfurt is a little better ;-)

Shorter but much more rocking. Perfect deal.  :)

I understand the tour is becoming very long and exhausting for Mark.
That's sad  and a bit worrying :'(
It's "only" the middle of the tour.

Myself was happy with the London setlist especially that Mark dug Coyote out and gave it new life. Even Prairie Wedding that is far from being my prefered one on the STP album sounded really nice this year at the RAH

Yeah, also what is so great about this is that after these little set list changes you are able to buy different shows on Simfylive.com and really have
official recordings from all those songs. I might be able to add Why Aye Man and Cleaning My Gun now to the already great London recording. This way I hopefully will have perfect recordings of some other set list changers as well, hopefully of Get Lucky or so ... I am very willing to buy those complete shows for one or two new songs!  8)

I'm not sure CMG has really worked properly yet, but Coyote has had time to develop into a real highlight for me too.

One thing I don't understand is that when the band/MK know that fans attend multiple shows at The RAH they give us almost identical set list's, yet right after their stint they change it!  Not very fair. ???

Meanwhile the encores download is available from the Simfy website.
Download is approximately 144MB.

Why Aye Man, Cleaning My Gun, Hill Farmer's Blues (which were already on the USB stick) are also in te zip file. Maybe some extra mixing or something?
In the Flash player the songs 9 to 14 are listed as "Encores".

That is because Mark doesn't care for his fans! And that is not meant in an offensive way. It is what it is. He only cares for his fun and the fun of the band. And when this fun is felt by and jumps over to the audience, it is all he wants to achieve. Took me long to understand this but now that I am older and wiser I understand him. OK, all those disciples come up and beat me and tell me that touring with 60 is much more caring than bla bla bla....  :P

BTW, I am listening to the London 30.05.10 download and must admit that those long talkative passages go onto my nerves a little bit and that I skip them... He could have played just one complete more song during these 6 or 8 minutes he talks during that gig in complete... Hello, just kiddin'...  ;)

I kind of understand that. Mark tours because he likes it and plays what he wants. If this touring was just pleasing the fans he would have stopped the thing a while ago. Ah, that last sentence is crap language, but maybe you understand me.

Yeah. How could you as an artist care for your fans anyway, I mean in an honest manner? There are millions of them, who should he care for? Only CD buyers, or concert goers, only women? Or only those who are organized in forums? Or those who at least attend 10 shows on every tour? Think you got my point... As long as he is happy with what he is doing, the fans will benefit. Therefore it is logical to me to skip the meet & greets, let people stand in the rain outside the venue and pass them in a black limousine and point to those who dare to take pics...

Just that Mark does play for all the public and the vast majority of it will only see him once on a tour.

So regarding what Mark do or do not toward "its fans", I thank him to allow us to be able to buy premium seats without needing to have THE  "Amex super extra gold platinum credit card" and even without buying a costly membership to his fan club, to allow us recording, taking pictures, to make some of his show available in sbd and first of all, to deliver wonderfull music to us  ;D

Alright, Guy has finished his entry for Antwerp and he said they had to finish early because they had to get the plane to Frankfurt ontime. He also said it was a fantastic show. So what's with all that "It was too much for MK" and "MK is suffering" crap. Stop exaggerating people, it's driving me mad.
Title: Re: Concert #44:2010.06.06, Lotto Arena, Antwerp, Belgium
Post by: herlock on June 07, 2010, 03:11:30 PM
Of course Guy says things like that, despite their cool attitude they are high professionnals, unless somebody is about to die, they are not going to admit that they shortened the show because of health problems... the reason Guy gave may be true, but it find it very strange, in that case, that the last song would be the one to be suppressed; it is clear they were in a hurry, because even with PTTE the show would have been only 15 songs, an absolute minimum; but why suppressing the short, new, sweet, conclusive and acclaimed PTTE ? why not suppressing DWB instead, for instance ? Nobody would have noticed, as it's not always part of the main set... So their could be 2 causes reported only as one: the hurry, and something else towards the end of the show...

I am somehow really excited today about these new set list changes. It shows that there is still some thinking about it. One could come to the conclusion that the UK part of the tour had the same set more or less, also the last few gigs in the US, so I thought maybe this is it for this tour now. And because I am to attend one more show, there ARE some changes possible which is great. And our Maarten asked Guy about Antwerp and he wrote that last night
was his best show so far! After several RAH gigs I find that very promising and positive!

Maybe because, unlike us, Mark totally digs Done With Bonaparte  ;D
Actually, what I wrote was not a negative judgment about DWB, it is one of my favourite songs, unlike for many of you guys ;) Rather, that since DWB was an "optionnal" song in the middle of the set list during the tour, suppressing it would have gone much more unnoticed than suppressing PTTE...

Yeah, I was a Bonepart hater but thought it was great in Glasgow.

Funnily enough I listened to Hamburg 96 today. Amazing show. It wasn't just that the set included more songs than the current one - it was that the songs there were had much longer, with lots of intricate and interesting arrangements. Guy may claim that the current band is the best ever, but in my not so humble opinion the stuff they played in 96 was much more challenging.

I have purchased the show, I can confirm that WAM sounds great, better than in 2005 and 2008 IMHO. Although my absolute favourite remains the 2002 charity concerts version - with a quasi-DS band, John Illsley, Chris White on sax, and Jimmy Nail... gorgeous !

And some idiots were filming again, so the finger of death was pointing twice to the same person. That may have annoyed MK, after starting in a very good mood!

Yes, that person stood right in front of me and at first i thought that Finger of Death has been for me  :D i was quite panicking  :P But that person really felt ashamed and i think he felt all the pairs of eyes on his back of the head  :)

But nobody noticed MY finger of death - i pointed at MK while he was filmed by this guitar-camera...it is said no filming allowed....so ...  :P

Actually, that's crap... I'm sorry but as musician you shouldn't stop a gig because of the plane... But that's just my opinion. Show goes first, plane right after.

Very well said.  As the old saying goes "the show must go on."  It's simply not good planning if they have to cut short concert's to catch their plane.  Surely five minutes wouldn't make any difference. ???

That's precisely why I think the reason given (plane to catch), albeit real, is a secondary reason, the primary reason being... something else that they don't want to talk about. Maybe a health problem, from MK or possibily from somebody else. Otherwise, they would have taken 5 minutes more, or plan to suppress a secondary song in the middle of the setlist...

Anyway, if someone was in pain, it might have been possible to see it, but definitely not to hear it; I have listened to the full show and these 14 songs sound awsome...

I agree. Bad planning. But slot times are slot times, so they could risk not to be allowed to take off or land. The same thing happened lots of times during the US leg of the K2GC tour due to the fact that many of the GA-airports they used closed at 11 pm. And they couldn't start the concerts earlier due to union regulations. Many shows were cut. This tour it only happened once I think. Until now.

As I know both Antwerp and Frankfurt cities do not have special GA airports. Both Antwerp (with BA center) and Frankfurt (with GA terminal) airports work 24 hrs.

Yes, I'm sure you are right. Guy, however, mentioned slot times, so I guess that's the reason then. The air space over Europe is extremely crowded, so if you dont make your slot, you sometimes have to wait for hours on the tarmac.

First, I totally agree with those crappy youtube videos. I won't even bother looking at them. Second, what is it that you guys are so obsessed with Tunnel of Love? Third, Frankfurt airport is the second biggest airport in Europe, so slots DO matter a lot. I understand why some of you are pissed because they shortened the show but I can also imagine they would have gotten into trouble if they really had played your Tunnel of Love at the end.

And please, stop speculating about MK's health, it's driving me mad! I talked to Isaac last night and he said MK was just fine in Antwerp. It was just the damn plane, get over it.

I certainly hope it was the plane but in Glasgow I could see the pain in his face during Marbletown (perhaps Dusty saw it too) and in London on the 31st I'm sure he cut short the final solo on TR due to the pain he was in too, although he seemed fine during the encores.  It's like he's fine for most of the time but during some parts of a concert begins to feel the pain.  Of course this is all speculation and none of us really know how he feels.  Another thing to bear in mind is the position Mark takes when he plays;  he's always leaned back while playing which can't be good for his back even when he's at his best.

I didn't notice any problem in Glasgow to be honest. Remember, that the rock "guitar face" with eyes closed is similar to a look of pain.

Mrs Bigsby says it's similar to a "sex face" as well.  :o
