Hello.
I'm from the Netherlands and coming to the RAH on the 22e. Tickets have to be picked up at the Venue (RAH). What time is that possible. I'm reading Box Office at 18.00?? Can someone help me?
Looking forward to next week :-) :-)
-
No special guests after all apparently.
Someone asked Guy about it, this is his reply:
No special guests but we are all very excited about Bonnie and Madison Square Gardens

Box office opens at 18.00 so that's the start of pick up. Do we see you in the Stanhope Arms. We will be there from about 16.30

Pff, they announced it with special guests. What a BS is this. :disbelief

Agreed, hardly chance at all with MK. Other band members shouldn't be a problem...
-
I waited once with a group of fans, about 10 people, at the exit of the parking and when MK went out he stopped and said "I'm tired guys, sorry" he didn't signed anything, just shakes one or two hands and leave.
I didn't approached the car neither some of the people with me but the 5 or 6 that did just got that.
The next day he didn't stopped at all, before he went out someone came and told people to leave.
-
I really hope they keep stopping for a few minutes, last tour and everything.. they have stopped when arriving at most arenas so far if you read Guy's diary...

I think it depends on many things. It seems that the more people waiting, the smaller are the changes.

What time they be expected to be arriving at RAH?

Im just at the ramp. I saw a Mercedes vito van. But i havent seen if there were in

Enjoy everybody! :) Looking foward to meeting some of you guys tomorrow ;D

Enjoy the show everybody!! :clap :clap :clap

SLQ :
Probably Piper to the end today and Brothers in Arms tomorrow as the only change to the set for the RAH ?
-
That's fine as I am there tomorrow. :)

That is the maximum. They have so much other activities in London besides the concert that normally changes are even more rare than normally.

Other members are no problem. John came and stood right beside me, had a smoke and then made a phone call before going into the building. Nobody recognised him with his beanie on! Then another year I saw Richard and Joe Brown entering a back door. Some fans were hanging around a caught up with Richard.
-
I have been there several times, met basically everyone but MK, also met Ed Bicknell

Showtime yet??
;D

No. Looks like 2040 UK

This is the first time I regret not to be in da red house but I can't go everywhere.
Have a nice show everybody!
-
The "retirement" speech for this show didn't include any message that this was the last tour, unlike what he has said in most of the prior shows. He said he thought about retiring, but couldn't because he loved the music too much. A change of heart? Or just a watered down version to avoid disappointing the audience?
-
Or that small UK tours still are possible?
-
Still think he will do gigs here and there.
Maybe 1 or 2 in each country. London. Berlin. Amsterdam. New york. Thats it. No special guests tonight?
-
Guy said thee were no guests tonight so it’s unlikely there’ll be a surprise
-
Have only listened to a handful of versions, but tonight's Silvertown was the best I've heard by far.

The latter is what I am leaning to personally. He might be thinking his original speech was too downbeat for a concert situation. :-\

until now, same set with BIA or PTTE, no surprise tonight no surprise tomorrow I suppose :think

Sat on the train home after the gig tonight and I have to say that there are some mixed emotions running round in my head right now.
Sound wise I thought it was patchy. I was sat 4 rows from the front, centre left arena. At times the sound was sublime, you could hear every last chime bar and cowbell. Other times marks voice seemed lost in the mix, and at times (especially on r&j) some of the more acoustic sounds were lost.
The guitar sounds themselves were extraordinary. Overall good.
The concert itself. MK looks like he's really trying to bring it and he played some decent stuff tonight. But also several nasty greenies, especially right at the start of wam with a total foul up of bladen races! I've also never seen him mess up words like he did in speedway tonight singing the 2nd to last verse twice.
Our man is on the wane but he's still there shoulder to the wheel trying his best.
From a happy and sad longtime MK fan.

For me wam was superb, better than in Barcelona!

I too would have to give a slightly mixed report. Sound wise, guitars generally good, but both WAM and CBC suffered a little from an over-emphasised rather muddy bass. WAM was ok, given one or two errors, but I really don’t rate CBC that high as second song, I suppose the one thing it does do is maintain an upbeat momentum, but I’d much rather hear Dance Floor or What It Is in this slot.
Once Upon a Time was terrific, as was Silvertown, as was MfN. These three made up for the loss of Sultans and TR. I don’t think Heart Full of Holes works all that well as a live song, despite a good arrangement. The biggest problem with it is that MK's voice was having an off night, evident from early on when he seemed to have a frog in his throat in WAM. He just can’t carry Heart with his voice in this condition.
There are now so many in the band that I’d have been happy if he’d skipped the intros, they go on interminably.
The show achieved lift-off from Silvertown (superb - how can it have taken him 18 years to realise this would be a good song live), Speedway excellent (I didn’t notice the repeated verse; if I’m honest it’s not a song where I take much notice of the words!); Money great, and the final Going Home pretty bulletproof, and now a bit nostalgic for those of us who heard it in Edinburgh in a different context a couple of months ago.
Before that, I’d been rather hoping for Brothers rather than Piper. Why? Because while Pioer is a very good song, Brothers is a masterpiece. But I’m afraid not so much tonight. I’m no guitar expert, but I felt he was using the wrong guitar (did dmg or someone write about this the other day?) and as a result it seriously lacked the usual romance and emotion. Didn’t come off for me, and I’d rather have had Piper than this Brothers, perhaps the weakest of the dozen or so I’ve heard him play live.
All in all, despite my reservations, a very good show, and the audience left happy. Relative to previous solo tours (I’ve seen them all) I’d say about 7.5 out of 10.
-
For me this was way better than last week in Cologne. His voice wasn't that good though, but it was really the crowd that gave so much energy. And what about this venue. Even a dull song (for me) like "My bacon roll" became interesting cause of the lighting of the stage. This was probably my last time I saw him live and to me this was the perfect closer on his own turf. Despite my doubts of dropping TR earlier on this tour, I'm glad I was there.

I have only watched clips, but my impression is that this quote from the Leeds gig review very well sums up where Mark 'is at' at the moment:
Instead, the Glasgow-born guitarist let his fingers mostly do the talking across a two-hour-plus set that ran the near-breadth of his career, taking in songs on a near 40-year journey stretching back to 1979, with the sort of performance that arguably more than anything played to his strengths as an arranger of melody and mood more than anything. (emphasis mine)
I think Mark is wise doing what he does, steering clear of attempts at the guitar dazzlery of yesteryear.

Really a BIG shame they don't play Dancefloor. One of the best songs from the last album. And to have had Imelda join them at RAH would have been killer. Sad.

What a night again !
The venue is unique in the world, and this alone justifies the trip. Forgets about stadiums and arena, The RAH brings MK in your livingroom ! Fantastic atmosphere. Mark managed (i) to fill it up and (ii) to shake it like mad, the audience behave in much more spanish or italian fashion than a british one !
Especially, a crazy MFN with full intro, unheard since 1988, and lots of energy. Amazing.
Other highlights were the perfectly played two new songs (OUATITW and SB), the funny and witty new arrangement on Postcards.
Too bad that there were quite a few mistakes, especially in WAM, and Speedway, that Mark's voice was not fantastic, that the sound was so-so at times (a complete drop of a few seconds in STP !), and that BIA was better in France...
Anyway, I am still saying in fantastic London today, for another show tonight. In 2015 the second night was better than the first one, hope it will be the case :) And I hope to get Piper, only song I have not yet heard live this year...

The quick drop off in sound on STP was actually quite interesting (somebody must have slipped on the master fader!) as it showed how low their actual on stage volume is….

Postcards has been fabulous this tour. Really the only "party song" in the set. There should have been more party songs, IMO.

I also like it stripped-down, like in 2007 showcases. Powerful as well, in a different way.

What a night once again ! After attending french shows, arrangements are always fresh. Very powerful Money For Nothing. Dany is on top and complicity is real. Impatient for the second show 🎸

Bonaparte.
_____________
Sounds like an off-night for Mark after a couple of great shows in Newcastle and Leeds where I thought his playing was really intense (one small error in R&J aside). Bear in mind though that the set, as a whole isn't so demanding these days.
Interestingly, we noticed he had a frog in his throat at Newcastle where he had to clear his throat during the MM speech. He was fine at Leeds.

From the live concerts at MK store:
"Due to venue restrictions we are unable to offer a live recording of this show at this time. Should these circumstances change and we are able to offer this live recording down the road we will make an announcement via the MarkKnopfler.com newsletter. If you haven’t already be sure to join the mailing list now to stay in-the-loop.
This item is currently not available."

It was like this previously and eventually they did sell them

Just watched a video of MFN and what have they done to the iconic opening riff??? Little blows of the sax into it is just not right. Not right at all!!! Cannot believe nobody has mentioned this sacrilege. What on earth are they thinking? >:( >:( >:(

When Mark digs a thing, he can't get enough of it, it seems. First it was the flutes and citterns all over the place, now it's the horn section.

Those 2 days were amazing!! Thanks to all the fans i've met and spent the days with. It made it all very special to be between you lovely people.
Both nights in the front (1st and 2nd rows) of RAH (2nd night front row, right in the middle, i felt so lucky) its just wow.
Will post some pics of the Amit meeting and shows tomorrow.

Finally, a review, and it’s a 5 star review in The Times.

I’m not sure that’s terribly easy to read, something about how the forum software treats the attachment. Incidentally, not altogether clear whether it’s a review of first or second RAH concert, but I’ve posted it here.

FIRST NIGHT: POP
Review: Mark Knopfler and Band at the Royal Albert Hall

The “and Band” on the billing was crucial as the former Dire Straits main man played the first of two sold-out nights at the Albert Hall. Mark Knopfler, who will turn 70 in August, has spent the decades since that band ended putting together a formidable ensemble of supporting musicians. On stage with him were ten extra bodies, all as skilled as the band leader in their field. “I play one instrument,” he said, deadpan. “They play about 47.”
It was not an exaggeration. There were fiddles, mandolins, flutes, penny whistles, a pedal steel, a Hammond organ, a sax, a trumpet, a double bass, drums and every kind of percussion imaginable from the exuberant Danny Cummings. There were even uilleann pipes and a cittern on the beguiling Celtic folk of Done With Bonaparte.
Of course, the one instrument that Knopfler plays he plays better than most people. In an era when virtuosity in rock music isn’t celebrated as much as it used to be, it was thrilling to watch a master at work. He changed guitar between every song, from his faithful old red Fender Stratocaster for the delicate, countrified Sailing to Philadelphia to the beautiful Dobro that graced the cover of the multimillion-selling Brothers in Arms. “All I ever wanted was a guitar,” he said. “Now they’re everywhere.”
Those mesmeric fills and effortless, mellifluous riffs adorned every song, most strikingly on a spellbinding rendition of Brothers in Arms. Age has not withered his talent, although his conversational, gruff vocals were almost whispered at points, which was fine for the rootsy material (a new song, My Bacon Roll, was a highlight), but meant that the old favourite Romeo and Juliet lacked the emotional punch it once had.
Inevitably, the biggest cheer of the night was reserved for the anthemic rocker Money for Nothing as the audience left their seats to come to the front and celebrate their guitar hero up close. Ordinary fella. Extraordinary talent. Exceptional band.
