Mind you; Sultans original studio-intro differs from the live-intro similar to Beryl. So there are ways to do this differently obviously. I do not believe that the short count-in itself is enough to "kill" SOS from a set-list.

I would any time prefer a longer solo and versions of a new good song, rather than a "cut off" short version of Sultans instead.
Sultans is GREAT but in the long perfect version. A short Sultans is like getting it on but never finish    ;D
Cheers Peter

I received the promo version (CD-R release) today. For anyone who is interested, check here:

http://www.oneverybootleg.nl/officially_owned_beryl_01.htm

Does anyone know when the recording sessions for this album actually started and when they were finished?
I thought is was at the end of 2013 when it started and somewhere near the end of 2014 when it was finished, but it would be nice to be more accurate.

Thanks,
Jeroen

I noticed that incorrect spelling too. Pretty poor, isn't it? As well as the ever static mentioning of 120 million albums sold... The radio edit only misses the guitar intro, as discussed before in this thread.

This morning I made my brother who was a great fan of MK's music when he was with Dire Straits, listen to Beryl and he said immediately that it was a DS's song absolutely!! He loves the melody!!
But it's written in the starlight and every line on your palm, we're fools to make war on our brothers in arms.

My guess is that Mark has (almost) stopped playing Sultans because "the twiddly bits" just got too difficult. He simply can't play it like he used to could, and thus decided to better not play it at all. Which is all fine as far as I'm concerned. Fingers do get rusty with age, there's no point in pretending that they don't, but luckily he has A TON of great songs that don't require guitar wizardry. Tracker will have more of those, and I'll be too busy hearing and admiring them to even miss Sultans for a second.

There are a lot of much older players out there who can still play faster stuff than that so I don't think there's an excuse.  Personally I just think he's lazy and doesn't practice much any more.
