Hi JF. I'm new in this wonderful forum and, of course, your review on the album intrigued me and pushed me to bring a question. I noticed that you were very impressed by Back On The Dance Floor: in your opinion, was the right choice of God On You Son as the first single or you preferred some other song, such as the same Back On The Dance Floor?

for MY taste, I would have chose Trapper man or Back on the dance floor instead of Good on you son

I admit that I didn't listen to Good on you son since several days. too much listened last week, and of course since yesterday I focus on new stuff
I think that back on the dance floor would have been a very good single and attractive for DS fans. the sound would fit "pop-rock radio" if you see what I mean. Trapper would also have been a good single, but is more americana style.

Good on you son is indeed Early Bird #2 like many people said, and is less "surprising" (in term of music) than these two first songs. These 2 songs are really really good and are very great openers for the album. I don't understand why they don't have been chosen as a single. Maybe second single ?

It's a little bit like if Baloney again or silvertown blues had been chosen as first single for STP album. Really good songs, but of course WII was the obvious choice....oh wait..Ed was still in the cockpit at the time, right ? ;D ;)

joke apart, most of the time, the first single has (almost) always been the first song of the album (maybe some exceptions : Boom like that and Beryl, and get lucky ? and this is us ?)

Again, I do insist that all these impressions are of course subjective and based on MY taste, so...

It is obvious that they are personal tastes but as a good old fan of the DS you are, it is clear that TM and BOTDF would have been more radio-friendly.

I love B&W too. But I won't expect too much for a live rendition of this kind of tune...I hope I'm wrong

I was listening "One song at the time" this morning, and I picked up for the first time the lyric line "Down The Road Wherever". it's at the end of the chorus
didn't pay attention to it before, because I was more focused on the music

also "slow learner" is very much about Mark himself : "I am a slow learner, I do things slow, it's m y way... "  makes much sense after more than 3 years since the last album !

He always  said he learns guitar slowly and he still has to learn especially from Chet Atkins . (Hasn't he got a letter from him he never opened, or something like that ?)

John Knowles, friend Chet gave MK. Mark also received a book with chords. The first chord of the song Sands of Nevada comes from Knowles.

even if I didn't understand all words, I think it's of course about leaving someone or somewhere
and I love this kind of slow jazzy mood. I listen to it when I come home on bike at night, alongside the river in my town, with city lights. very much moving

it depends on what you mean by "country"  :)

One song at a time could be called "country", but to me it's more an irish-scottish-folkish ballad ala Border reiver. at the end : fiddle and flutes along the lead guitar

Yes, it's true, there is no pedal steel guitar. There is no Paul Franklin. I really like country made in MK :) Country rock style When It Comes To You too:)

Guys, I have the official lyrics sheet, as provided by Universal to journalists. I'm posting the whole thing here, below. Interestingly, there are some mistakes/mispellings in it (for instance, Just a Boy Away from Home is called Just a Boy/You'll Never Walk Alone here ... But anyway, these lyrics certainly are much more reliable than what we try to denote while listening.

As expected and as usual with Mark, we're getting some great lyrics with this new album:
