Hi people,
I could be wrong, but I'm sure they have just said Mark's new song is to be played on the Ken Bruce show this morning.
Cheers,
Adam
-
Wouldn't surprise me. Mark did a special on his show in 2004 promoting SL and I think he's a bit of a fan too.
-
Yep. Just heard it. ;D
-
Boring times...they play the new MK single on the radio for the first time and all AMITERs are saying, yes, nice. I have it since yesterday.. ;D

Guy told someone on his forum that he/she wasn't supposed to have heard it already ;D

Overseas listers will probably need to use a proxy server.

Many thanks Adz! It sounded a lot better than the YT versions - the keyboard sounded a lot louder though! :)

When exactly was it played? Can't find it, all the songs played are listed down on the site, but no Beryl?
EDIT: I found it: Around 1:45 min. !

Yeah, I've been listing for a wee bit now and I'm at 23mins. Still no Beryl! Beginning to think Ken Bruce looks like Clive James in that picture I've been staring at it so long! :hmm

Click on to the arrow in the picture, then slide along to 1.45! Beryl is on at 11.15 am and the show started at 9.30 am.

Thanks. You really are SUPER-Val!

The intro was left out - I wonder if that is all what the radio edit is about, or what exactly was cut out to make it shorter..
I remember the nice outro of This Is Us was not to be heard in the first editions, also What It Is was shorter in the quiet middle part. But on Beryl, I have no idea where it could be longer? Second solo?
LE
-
So that's the radio edit then. I think that that makes it sound more like Sultans than the version we've already heard where the little intro kind of masks it.
-
I think I like it better without the intro - for now! ;)
-
Nooo, love the intro! Sounds so familiar and new at the same time.. nice beginning and nice ending, as I said earlier...
Perfect first few notes to open the album I think! :)

Only for now, not for ever, LE! ;D

WOW!!!! I LOVE IT!!!!
Gonna play it all day at work!!
BTW, in the US, you don't need to get any special proxy. Just click, move the time counter to 1:45:10 and try not to cry, as I get tears whenever hearing an MK song for the first time.
Oh, and the BBC played the full version, not a radio edit! Mark hates radio edits; remember Telegraph Road never became a single cause he wouldn't cut it down!

That means the album version is 3.11, because the edit (made by Guy?) is 2.39.
-
Omg, 2:39? It's lesser even than Evrovision contest songs lol. How less could it be?
-
As long as it's good I don't care too much.

From Guy's Forum:
Q - Beautiful this song! It's a radio edit? Thank youuu
Guy - Yes, the full version has an intro.
-
So, the song we know is the full version?
-
So, the song we know is the full version?
Indeed, Lenght: 3.11 is the full version.
-
So all Guy did was cut the intro? Seems not very complicated..

I second LE. I love that intro

Guy confirmed a few minutes ago that the album version has an intro. And that's it obviously.

I love the intro too! I just meant that it was nice to hear it without, just for a while, because it sounded like the beginning of Sultans - hence my previous post - only for now, not for ever! ;)

See reply #21 :)

Oh thanks. How could I ever miss one of your posts. Too much going on today... ;D

Well done Ken! I like Ken Bruce - seems a nice guy when he's been interviewed. I also liked the sessions Mark did on his show in 2004 for SL promo.

There I was minding my own business, listening to the one and only Chris Evans while drinking a coffee at work at 7.15am Yesterday morning (Wednesday) when out of the blue came the edited 'Beryl'!!! Wahay I've heard it on the radio at last.... Chris Evans seemed very impressed with the tune calling it a 'beautiful tune' by the one and only Mark Knopfler....
-
and got a play on steve wright in the afternoon too, so lots of coverage which is nice
-
I thought is a new song will be played. Change topic title please, don't be so cruel :)
-
It's currently on the Radio 2 "A" playlist so lots of plays this week. :thumbsup :clap

Agree, "new song" should be changed into "Beryl"

Do we really need to be informed of every time it gets airplay though? A topic that was interesting at first but now seems rather pointless. :)

I'm interested. Certainly seems like the most airplay he's had on uk radio in a long time. Probably since Why Aye Man.
Should result in a strong chart placing for the album.

As I recall, 'Boom, Like That' also got a reasonable amount of airplay when it got into the B-list back in 2004, and it was also Record of the Week. Interestingly though, Shangri-La did not make it into the UK top ten and was the only one of Mark's solo albums not to do so. Whatever the case, it's good to hear Mark getting some deserved exposure on the airwaves. Though you would have to say that it probably has something to do with the fact that 'Beryl' does have that distinctly early Straits-esque feel!

Yeah, but BLT was good!

Yes, 'Boom, Like That' is good. And so is 'Beryl'.

"Should result in a strong chart placing for the album."
I think it will be a bit more difficult to get the album into the top ten this time. At the moment the charts are full of bright young things like Sam Smith, George Ezra, Ed Sheeran, etc and all of those others who have just played at The Brits! ;) I'm keeping my fingers and toes crossed, though, for a good placing! :)
-
March is a quiet chart time though. BIA was in the top 10 a couple of weeks ago with only 8,000 sold.
Maybe the free copies given with concert tickets will count.

Yes of course we do, as it's not as pointless as mention of a Dire Straits reunion!! ;D
