Just had an email confirming postponement (not cancellation) of Local Hero - no new dates at this stage. But there’s a link to a recording of one of the songs with Mark and his band performing (though not singing!). Definitely worth a listen:-

Strange to hear the new MK song sung by not him, but so cool! Thanks for the link.

Beautiful song. I miss the voice of MK. Thanks goon525:)
-
that's a lot of rocks and water :)
Thanks a lot for the share, the music is great!
-
What a great solo

Those who were (or listened to the audience recording) know that this song was sung at the stage by Stella, this recording feautures Mac singing instead...
This could mean two things, this recording is a demo previous to the Edinburgh perfomances and they changed who sings it to the stage, or this recording is new, and this is one of the changes Guy mentioned for the London run...
However, is great that the recording features MK and the band!
-
Intriguingly, this song was sung by the girl in Edinburgh.
-
Love it, from the melody, to the guitar playing.

There are snippets of "Houston we have a problem" and "Going home" from May 2019 as well.

Yes, I posted it long ago.

Yes, MK on guitar, Guy on keys, Mcgoldrick, Mccusker and Ian Thomas also playing.

First snippet is just Every Heart In The Room.
Is this the usual MK band we're hearing (maybe minus the US folks)? The drummer sounds like Ianto?
-
Now that‘s a true wonderful and melodic MK guitar solo :)

MK plays all guitars. Guy the synths, the Macs play whistle and fiddle, Ianto plays drums and Evan Vernal (or something like that) plays bass. Plus other name I can remember on piano, and the actor who plays McIntyre singing.
-
Beautiful guitar solo! :)
Music and Lyrics by Mark Knopfler
Damian Humbley - vocals
Mark Knopfler - all guitars
Dave Milligan - piano
Guy Fletcher - keyboards
Ian Thomas - drums
Ewan Vernal - bass
Donald Shaw - accordion
John McCusker - fiddle
Mike McGoldrick - whistle
-
Wow what a wonderful song! And some great classic MK guitar work!
I would love to hear MK doing the vocal himself though.
-
I think that one of the most beautiful songs from the musical is "Houston we have a problem", I hope the MK band recorded all the songs and hear MK playing wonderful guitar on such a beautiful song...
"rocks and water" is another favorite, together with "game over".
The musical has some very classy MK on it. It's a pity some fans won't know about them simply because they don't like musicals. I'm not a musical fan either but this is one with MK songs on it, and most of them are beautiful.
-
One of my favourites is "I Wonder If I Can Go Home Again", but there are so many lovely songs. I hope we will hear more of these from MK and the band and, eventually, a cast recording too.

That's also beautiful, and it has two different versio9on the play, sung by different characters.
-
Only Rocks and Water is a very nice MK song ruined to me by the guy who signs it. I don’t know but the way he sings it just doesn’t feel right. If sung by Mark it would be fantastic
-
Agree with you Koobaa...what a wonderful song.....but...without Mark singing,it's not the same..
-
You said that because you didn't see the musical.
It makes total sense that is sung by the actor.

I agree. It makes you think about Mark singing his other songs: sometimes he is taking on acting roles in a manner of speaking, such as in STP where he plays a character. Other times he is just narrating or playing himself. I suppose if he was appearing in the show then he would sing it, however that wasn't happening! :lol
On a different note, I actually preferred Stella singing this. Maybe this was pre-Edinburgh recording, but the female vocal was nicer for me. The actress sang with more passion too.
-
Thanks so much for the share of this lovely song!
Captures for me something of the essence of why I love mks music.
Thanks again, very much cheered me up in these dark times.

Guy said MK and him, and the musical team were working on changing some things, maybe that song and the character who sings it was one of those...

Guy said that there is not a cast recording as yet so I don't know what to think about the song they shared to us... Since it's sung by one of the sct9, it would be weird being a demo...

Probably just referring to all of the songs with the entire cast rather than just one song with one cast member.
-
It's beautiful. I'd like to hear MK singing that tune. Damn, that solo.... :thumbsup
-
According to markknopfler.com newsletter it is a British Grove Studio recording from earlier this year. They release it now, and we have it for quite a while now through the Old Vic.
-
Looking forward to 2021 bringing back what 2020 stole from us...
I hope they could reschedule the Local Hero dates at the Old Vic, this summer or autumn!
-
Yes, still have my tickets!
