So...just for a bit of fun, and I know it is very early days, create your own album from the One Deep River Sessions. Let's keep it to a max of 12 songs (just to make it ultra hard....) - but no rules other than that - you can even give your album a different name if you want to! So - what are is your perfect 12 song album from these sessions? I would bet now that no two of these will be the same.

I will go first - and I may do this again in a month to see how much I have changed my mind.....but, today, I present to you...

Nothing But Rain, by Mark Knopfler

1. Two Pairs of Hands
2. Smart Money
3. Your Leading Man
4. Black Tie Jobs
5. Along a Foreign Coast
6. Fat Chance Dupree
7. Janine
8. Ahead of the Game
9. Watch Me Gone
10. Dolly Shop Man
11. Nothing But Rain
12. This One's Not Going To End Well

Am I mad?!? No original title track? No Scavengers? No Tunnel 13? It was tough - and I have to say I like every one of the 21 songs - not one of them I dislike - something to enjoy in all of them for me - I love the range and variety - in a months time I suspect my perfect 12 may be different - but that's my starter to get us going.....

I can't give a rating at the moment, as this album contains a lot of top-class songs.

First of all - brilliant question!  The bonus tracks should've been on the main album because it really needs a lift and most people will just buy the standard one and never hear the best songs.

1. The Living End
2. Black Tie Jobs
3. Tunnel 13
4. Your Leading Man
5. Dolly Shop Man
6. Chess
7. Scavengers Yard
8. Janine
9. Before My Train Comes
10. Smart Money
11. Along a Foreign Coast
12. One Deep River

Keep them coming folks! On a side note - I think I had 19 songs from the DTRW sessions. With Mark, more than any other artist I have ever listened to, I think of many of his albums as not just whatever is on the standard album (and with DRTW I am not sure I still understand what songs were on the standard version of that! I think I own 3 versions, all of which have different track listings - and different running orders!) - but rather I consider all the songs released from the sessions. So I already think of ODR as these 21 songs. I think of DTRW as the 19 songs. That doesn't hold for all Mark's albums, but certainly it does, with me at least, in terms of the 2nd half of his solo career.

There's a chap on here who i see always saying how much he hates DTRW - ! Fair enough - we like what we like. I liked much of DTRW - only 3 songs left me a little cold - Back on the Dancefloor, Nobody Does That and Good on You Son. Other than that, it was another terrific batch of songs, and I really loved the variety of styles and sounds, from Heavy Up, to rear View Mirror, from Sky and Water, to Don't Suck Me In, from Trapper Man to Matchstick Man. So, for me I would not say that this batch of 21 songs clearly outshines the last batch of 19. Anyway - I am now off to work out what my 12 song batch would be from the DTRW sessions!

Oef, this is a really tricky one.
As I've said before, I really like this album as a coherent thing.
And I find something beautiful in almost every song of Mark.

So here is what my tracklist would be:

1. Two Pairs Of Hands
2. Ahead Of The Game
3. Dolly Shop Man
4. Scavengers Yard
5. The Living End
6. Tunnel 13
7. Janine
8. Watch Me Gone
9. Along A Foreign Coast
10. Before My Train Comes
11. Nothing But Rain
12. One Deep River

Bonus CD tracklist:
1. Sweeter Than The Rain
2. Wrong 'un
3. Smart Money
4. Black Tie Jobs
5. Your Leading Man
6. Fat Chance Dupree
7. This One’s Not Going To End Well
8. Chess

I could live without the existance of:
What I'm Gonna Need

I really tried to keep the coherence of the album, but I upped the tempo of the songs a little.
But it was really hard swapping out Smart Money and Sweeter Than The Rain for example.
Looking forward to saturday and discovering 3 more songs!

Looking at all your lists, this is kind of like the 50 year argument that The Beatles' "white album" should have been a single album - but nobody can agree on which tracks would be kept!

Smart Money and This One's Not Going To End Well are two of my favourites but missing from lots of these selections. :)
