10 years since this album was released. What are your thoughts on it now?

I think that it's the best record Mk has done since he went solo. I don't like Emmy's voice but the songs are very good, the music is perfect and the whole lot makes it my favourite MK record.

I wish I could erase her voice from that masterpiece.....Sorry to be so brutally honest.

Love the songs, but not so keen on Emmylou's voice!

I love this album, and I like Emmy's voice very much
his harmonies on Donkey town, beachcombing and live on Bonaparte and SFA are very nice imho

I am ambivalent about this album.
A shrill voice of EH sounds to me like nails on a chalkboard. I was just on cloud nine when MK sang I Dug Up A Diamond without her in 2013.
However, Donkey Town is still one of my favourite songs. I love its razor-sharp imagery, its characters, bogged down in their mental imbalance, and the song itself reminds me of a story in the manner of Dostoevsky.

I could not disagree more !
I find Emmy's voice wonderfully blend with Mark's, much better than Ruth's, as cute as she is, because at least Emmy can actually be heard :)
Besides, 2013 "reggae" versions of IDUAD really lack the energy and the duet of guitars of the 2006versions.
As for the album, I don't understand why some call it not proper MK solo, to me it is one of the best, better than Shangri-La for instance. Standout tracks: IDUAD, the title track, Rolling On.

Because it is a duet album such as the one with Chet.

I agree with you about that one being superior to Shangri-La.

I don't know when I don't know where, see ya next time HE's coming in town  :wave

Middle of the road stuff mostly.  Songs like IDUAD are some of the dullest.  Beachcombing has a nice Strat sound on it.

We definitely don't have the same taste ! I really love IDUAD !
I also love Emmy's voice on Speedway on RLRR DVD,v very nice version, no folkies but a blend of male and female voices !

I agree with you, dmg!    IDUAD has never really appealed to me either.    My favourites are Right Now, Beyond My Wildest Dreams, Rollin' On and If This Is Goodbye, but it's far from being one of my favourite albums, mainly because of Emmy's voice.

You cannot seriously compare this with the Atkins record... That was a real duo playing classics together. All the roadrunning  was a MK album with two Emmy songs in which Emmy sings backing vocals on many tracks, in some sings duets and in a very few sings almost alone,  not a real duets album...

I took my first listening of the album recently and after I listened through it briefly I got into a position where I can't move on any further but listen to the first 3 songs repetitively. Beachcombing, I Dug Up A Diamond and This Is Us are just so wonderful songs. I don't mind Emmylou's voice here either I think it is essential in This Is Us though.

Thank you! I know, and don't worry about that - If my life would last enough there would be no song of MK I didn't listen to!

You were right.
Mark's really got a kind of a skill in catching the moment so smoothly and it seems he can do it with easy!
