Thanks to Dan for his prompt response in restoring AMIT forum. :clap
There was a problem with our host, and Dan, despite a very busy period at his work was able to get us back on line again. :thumbsup
During these (and there have been very few fortunately) outages we often notice some of the data Base of messages and other things have been impacted.
If any member notices any such anomalies please list them here and we will attempt to rectify them. Like MK says "It's just an Attempt"
Once again a big thanks to Dan for making the time to help us again!!
Very much appreciated. :wave

Thank you Dan for your fast reaction! Quite exiting time now, too exiting for forum crashes. Thank you again.
-
Yeah no problem. I knew when jbaent started sending me messages at 3AM my time it was going to be a long day.
-
Boy it was a tough one yesterday to check AMIT everytime and not being able to see anything. It is so much part of the daily routine that it really was like an addictive without his drug!! ;D ;D
But I was also sure that the good people in the background were doing everything to keep it running again! Thanks to all, technical crew, editors and others to make this place available! :thumbsup

The first post of the "Who is going where" thread seems to be gone?

Thank you Dan for getting us back together again! :clap As LE said, it's like being addicted to a drug! Thanks again! :wave

OK, we can all continue to use the forum for now but there is definitely still an issue with some posts missing. I suspect it's not an issue with actual missing data but an escape character decoding issue that's causing some text not to be output to the templates. We'll see.
-
Whenever I click on "Show unread posts since last visit" (which is the way I've always approached the forum) it always shows that there have been none. However, upon a quick search there are posts I haven't seen and threads marked "new." This means a search through every single section though.
-
Thanks! Don't know what happened or what you did but it works now! :thumbsup
-

I already apologised by forgetting that you live some hours behind the GMT+1 :lol

Hmm...didn't work again. :smack

:smack Further to the outage. The problem was as a result of an 'anomaly' in the host server. ???
Due to the circumstances of our current agreement we have no further recourse of action. We are taking steps to ensure the chances of another occurrence of this nature are unlikely!
We have restored most of the AMIT forum's various board's, contents, but a lot of threads have had the 1st or some subsequent post's wiped off for some reason.
Busy time behind the scenes for all editors, so hopefully members will be able to restore most of their own lost post's, or at least the ones that are most important to them & AMIT, which they still have copies of on their HDD or other devices?
Apologies to all! :-[ :-X :-\

no apology needed thanks for bringing this back up and working
off course a special thanks to Dan :clap
-
And how we restore our last posts?
-
Hi Jbaent,
:think At this stage the only things we will be able to restore are the ones that you are able to recover the information from youself. The ones that you know the original source of ie. as I have done in the 'Tracker' - tracks thread. All of the links to the photos and the lyrics were lost and I restored them awaiting for the release later this week to include the details as they are released. If you know the content of the post then you'll be able to edit the post and replace it.
I know it is not entirely satisfactory, but we have to work with the situation as we find it. :-[ :-\

PS I just noticed most of the Golden Heart work I did last week is gone too. :smack

And the who is going where tracker tour? I spent hours at that list :-\ :'( :disbelief

Your hard work was much appreciated, Dutchessy. It was a great point of reference! :(

I can do it again before the tour starts

thanks in advance :thumbsup

Good man! That is always a worthy point of reference and your work is very much appreciated. :thumbsup
-
Thanks Dan for your efforts, we would be lost without you.
-
Since site was down I've done something to the setting whereby 'unread' posts appear rather than the full lists. Would be grateful for 'how to' advice. Thanks.
-
:wave Sorry Louise, busy times since the outage and right at the new record release.
To select the way AMIT appears in your browser, you click on your name anywhere on AMIT. First page at the users online at the bottom of page is ok. Then you should see your Profile "louisewickson" page.
Move cursor over modify profile and click Look and Layout. Then you can select a range of things to suit your preference of how things appear for you. Try out a few different displays and anytime you feel like a change come back here to edit your settings.

Great thanks, shangri la 1. Done :thumbsup.
Let me say too how much I enjoy (and learn from) the entries, threads, discussions. 'Sticky' topics pretty good too ;D
Cheers :wave

A huge thanks to all editors, admins and mods for making this buzzing forum into what it is. :wave :clap

I will be taking the forum down later temporarily for some much needed maintenance. Just FYI. I'll edit this post when I'm done and it's back up.
-
I detected that the text of many of my personal messages is wiped out. Is this already known and do you see a chance that the corrupted messages can be restored ?

Thanks Dan. I shudder to think what we'd do without you. I know how busy you are with work, so any time you are able to spare us is priceless! :thumbsup

Yes, no problem. So the most visible aspects of this evening's activities are that all of the previously blank posts and PMs should be visible now.

thanks Dan for your job. But I see there still a general problem ... especially for text in german language. If a PM contains an umlaut (öäüÖÄÜ), only the text till the first umlaut is visible. Probably a problem also for other languages than german which contain further special characters ?
-
Dan, nice work, and nice avatar!

Hmm, i spent 2 hours yesterday in recovering the who's going where section by hand. I just had to wait for 1 more day ;D ;D :-X
But thank you very much Dan for your efforts. Hero!!

This is not good as the whole point of me making the changes last night was to fix exactly that issue with non English characters. I had a few posts that I knew were empty and after I made the changes they were all visible. So the issue that you describe has slipped through my test cases and I'll have to go back now and review what more can be done. Thanks for posting about it.

Just thought I'd mention an issue that has affected me since the forum was down recently. Whenever I come onto the forum I always click on the link in the top left for show unread posts since last visit. This always showed me all the posts on one page I had missed contributions to since my last visit - easy! Since the last issues this hasn't worked and I have to search through every section individually for threads marked new. This method is not only time consuming but makes it easy to miss a post. Is this just me/my browser (Safari)? I don't see anyone else having this problem. Thanks for any help you can provide.
-
I do the same DMG, but it still works. However sometimes it's empty after the first post I visit and I have to use the link all unread Posts or something like that, the one that's a lttle hidden in the dark bar a little lower than the unread since last visit

I had the same problem after the forum was down. I use Firefox. It worked again after I deleted all cookies and history-entries concerning "amarkintime.org" . It was important to delete also the history-entries, just deleting the cookies was not enough.

Thanks very much for your help Marc96er but it didn't seem to help for me on Safari. :(
-
Not remembering my password now either and I have to log in every time I come on to the site! Safari doesn't even ask me if I want to save my password on AMIT, yet I registered for a site last night and it asked me as usual.

Hi dear sweet editors,
I'm not sure if this the right place to ask but...what the hell is this guy with a pink shirt and a strat who appears multiplied many times on the left above any user avatar? :o :o ;D ;D
Edited: it disappeared now...
Edited 2: Hmmmm...now I know who is he! ;D
-
:clap :wave Many thanks to Dan for the work you do for AMIT. You are the main cog in the AMIT engine room and we hope you keep turning for many a long day yet!! :thumbsup

Hey! Is it posible to fix the title of the Norwegian corner? It should say "Det norske hjørnet (the Norwegian corner)".

The first post in this thread seems to have been chopped!
