Just throwing this out there.
Compared with other forums I use online (The Gear Page for example), the software that AMIT uses feels rather outdated and clunky. Is there any chance it could be upgraded? Is it a matter of money? Too much work?

Update the software could lead to loose many information, I think that many threads or parts or messages are already missing due to some updates in the software.
I like the way it is anyway.

Can't help but add "Just like MK" :lol

The forum should be a representation of the main man. So it should move slowly and take over two years to reveal any new information. :lol

See my quote above? What's the deal with the changed font size? Sometimes when I copy and paste something into a post, the font gets tiny, by itself. It's quirky as all get out.
-
The forum is fine for my needs. The sole exception would be posting a picture. It is annoying to have to resize it time and again until it is finally the correct size. I just can't be gassed now.

You have to take care with what you write before or after the brackets...

I agree with that, also the gifs for the avatar is a pain in the ass...

I do, but sometimes the formatting has a mind of its own. It shouldn't really be necessary. But I understand that if there's a risk that information will get lost, or that it will require much and maybe expensive work, it may not be worth it.

It happened to me from time to time, but it was always my fault because I wasn't taking care of where I was writing and using the quoting and other things unproperly...

we should ask our more tech minded editors, like Hoops mccann or Dutchessy.

An available upgrade should be possible, but an complete new lay-out or something is really a lot of work. Last time we have done that was with the new banner and new colours. I worked quite a time on that with Nelly (Knopflerized).
There is always a risk of malfunction, we had it several times int he past, once all avatars dissappeared. I can look into an upgrade when i have some private time left.
But what's the main thing you are bugged with? The fonts?
-
I will run a test upgrade on a backup version first in the coming period, i don't want the break the forum ;)
Thank you for pointing this out Hunter, it's a good time for this because there isn't a lot of MK news right now. Then the forum will be updated before anouncing the new world tour and album ;D

SMF 2.1 after 6 development years got its RC3 but I've tried it yet

We are currently on 2.015, is 2.1 different?
-
It's also not bugfree and not an official release.
We are stuck with slow development of Simple Machine forums i guess.
-
I'm ok with the forum as it is, is easy. There are things like the image size and the avatars size that could be improved but the rest works ok for me.

Thanks for the effort, Dutchessy.
Overall, the forum works fine, and my "complaints" are rather trivial in the big scheme of things, but coming from for example The Gear Page, this forum feels quite antiquated in comparison. Like I mentioned, the fonts can be an issue when you copy and paste. Also I'd like it to be easier to post and resize photos. With some forum software you can copy and paste photos straight into the post and also resize them directly. Better implementation of multimedia from various platforms would be nice too, i.e. videos from FB, Instagram, vimeo, etc. YouTube links too should be possible copy and paste without editing the URLs.

Would it be difficult to implement an Ignore function? Asking for a friend.

Would it be difficult to implement an Ignore function? Asking for a friend.
No joke. AMIT already has a function like this and it's called "Get a life". As if we don't know you're talking about me. Unlike you, I can talk openly and not in riddles.
I'll admit I'm excessively active in some topics lately, but I'm only excessively active in topics where there is a surprising amount of misunderstanding, false accusations of Mark and/or other members of the forum or the band, ex-band members who think they are the only source of truth and answer to everybody who they do not agree with in short, passive-aggressive sentences, and generally filled with some bad takes on things.
If you want short-form content, go on TikTok, you won't find me there. A forum is a place to express opinions, have a discussion, provide evidence and share the fun of having a big group of people who spent a considerable amount of their life studying and listening to their favourite music. If you are too sensitive to this, just ignore it altogether or provide a decent, worthy answer. Telling me to stop or request an ignore function — is not a good answer.
I'll go away for a while because the level of absurdity here has gained new heights in part thanks to Chris and his behaviour, in part thanks to you. Everybody who knows me personally knows that I am basically like a poodle and won't harm a fly, but I am very defensive of my position and very against bullshit. I also write very fast and these things don't take time for me, and I'm more than happy to accept a different opinion if it's expressed in a good way. Have a nice day.

Would it be difficult to implement an Ignore function? Asking for a friend.
There IS already an ignore user option.
You see someone is posting but you don't read his posts unless you click on it.
I have some users like that, a couple only.

Maybe I misunderstand you, but is this possible when you for example are reading through a thread? Or are you referring to the page with the thread overview which shows the latest post?
Edit: I found the function in the settings. Thank you.

You're welcome.
