I´ll hope, that the vinyls will be manufactured in high quality. If they will be pressed at czech pressing-plant GZ-Media, it seems to be a quality-lottery. My first BOX-Set is in very good quality, thank god, but GZ-Media record-pressing plant is known for less quality pressed vinyl. I´ll hope that this company had learned from their mistakes in the past. If yes, everything will be allright, on the subject of perfect  pressed records. :think

I am very happy that I will have the missing songs on CD:  :)

Your Perfect Song
Early Bird
Time In The Sun
Don’t Suck Me In
Sky And Water
Pale Imitation

It would be a complete set with Hot Dog.

And, of course:

Back in the Day and Precious Voice From Heaven :)

The 9LP version made me wonder... those four main albums as we know them are 2LP's, which implies they would need to fit all those 23 bonus tracks on one LP, that seems impossible... and in fact it is. As it turns out the bonus tracks of Get Lucky and Tracker are on side four of these main albums and the ones from Privateering and Down The Road Wherever form the bonus LP Back In The Day.
Even on the 6CD version the bonus tracks of Get Lucky are on the album disc itself instead of on the separate bonus tracks CD.
As for streaming, somehow good to see that in contrast to the 1996-2007 release (16/44.1) there is now a semi hi-res version (24/88.2) of 2009-2018 on Qobuz. Still I might ask why not just release both in 24/192 these days?

1. Border Reiver
2. Hard Shoulder
3. You Can’t Beat The House
4. Before Gas and TV

LP1 – Get Lucky – Side B

Didn't noticed about Corned Beef City...

I think the order of DRTW was already changed on previous LP version, because of songs lenght, they don't fit on LP sides in the same order than in the cd version.

regarding Corned Beef city beeing the only one remastered, it's just a typo
I recieve that kind of info per mail, and there are often mistakes like that.
it's just a bad copy/taste made for some reason, but of course all tracks have been remastered

I forgot that Hot Dog was on the German version of the Tracker album. But logically they could do the same as with the song Do America.

Not in the German but in a special edition for two specific German chain stores, I think MediaMarkt and other one I can't remember. Not for all the German market, just for two specific stores.

The previous boxset had a download card for the digital files.
Mine didn't come with one.

On the official MK site it also isn't mentioned with this boxset (and with the previous one it did say so).

So I guess it's not there this time

I listened to Precious Voice From Heaven (PVFH) a few times now.
It’s not a highlight. It misses a little instrumental solo (not necessarily a guitar solo) and the melody is quite boring.
I understand PVFH is not included in DTRW…
The real interest of the boxset is to have in a physical item some bonus tracks that were only on streaming platforms or hard to find because of being included in a special edition.

I disagree. Obviously,  Precious Voice from Heaven isn't a new classic like Telegraph Road, but it is way, way better than most of DTRW, which I personally think it is the weakest MK or DS album by far. Leaving this song and Pale Imitation out of that record is the single most absurd piece of decision-making since Dylan left Blind Williw McTell out of Infidels

Remember: this song aint Strawberry Fields Forever but  is out of DTRW, and, at the same time, Heavy Up, Nobody's Child, Nobody Does That, Good on you Son, Slow Learner and some others tedious, disoriented semi reissues of older songs are included on the final cut of the album. Crazy

As others have said before, it is a mystery to me as well why songs like Don‘t suck me in, pale imitation and now also Precious Voice were not included on  the main DTRW album. In my opinion, the album would have been even better! This is the MK that we all know and love

I understand and respect an artist that does not want to repeat himself and leaves out things in a style that have been covered by him in the past. It's a good thing. Maybe MK wanted to explore horns and went for it all the way. But this is just plain insane. Quality-wise, there is no question about it. This song is way better than half of the album

All the bonus songs from Privateering were gems! If only the rather boring blues songs had been swapped out for these it would have been a perfect double album! Great memories from this era of MK. Traveling to Seattle to watch MK & Bob and then having Mark choose not to play Seattle... ah!

I consider it, in the contrary, overrated by many fans. It's a very long song, very repetitive where nothing really interesting happens further than repeat the same melody, which is the main one again and again and again and again... I always skip it.

In the other side, river of grog is a marvelous song.

One of my favourites of all-time from MK's solo career. Criminally underrated.

I consider it, in the contrary, overrated by many fans. It's a very long song, very repetitive where nothing really interesting happens further than repeat the same melody, which is the main one again and again and again and again... I always skip it.

In the other side, river of grog is a marvelous song.

Would agree.  Follow the Ribbon is a very boring song - an insomniac's special.  Tie a Yellow Ribbon, on the other hand, is a great song!

Amazing song! And agreed, MK keep on burying top songs in the vaults. Sad. Imagine what we might be missing out on.  :)

Two Skinny Kids is what I am missing out on :(

Ah.  Amazon music here in the US has that as a separate album called "Gravy Train: The B-Sides 1996-2007" that has 8 tracks, and "Summer of Love" isn't included.

Summer of love is included on the bonus disc of the first boxset

but it's the "short" version (3’15) with the shout before the solo, while official YT channel posted the "long" version (3’44 and without the shout) some years ago (in 2017)

Most problems are known with the vinyl-versions of such records made by GZ-MEDIA in Czech Republic. It is like a lottery, if you get pristine or faulty copies from that pressing-plant. I have ordered the Vinyl-box and i pray to god to get perfect copies.
Most mistakes by GZ-Media are the following ones: seam-splits in the cover, warped records, pressings with scratches, haarlines or with stitchings on the surface. Sometimes they could have dirt or dust  in the sleeves. So check your vinyl-copies out.

I was underwhelmed with Down The Road Wherever. That being said, I think 'Drover's Road' was a fantastic song, as is 'Sky and Water', how they were bonus tracks while songs like 'My Bacon Roll', and 'Heavy Up',  made the cut Mark only knows. Perhaps he felt he had covered that territory before. I enjoy 'Trapper Man', 'One Song At A Time', and 'Good On You Son' too, but I skip the rest of the album.

There is no album in MK history as bad as DTRW. Half baked ideas, reusing of melodies, way too many fillers, no excitement at all. Like yourself, I like Drovers Road, Floating Away and One Song at a Time, but that's about it from the demented official tracklist. Heavy Up and Nobody Does That are pure, quintaessential, very poor and bland nonsense which go nowhere for way too long time; the Junkie Doll-You'll never Walk Alone mixture is just lazy; Matchstick Man is weak storytelling with a melody fully self-stolen from the amazing, hugely superior Heart of Oak; Back on the dance floor reuses Terminal of Tribute To for the verse and steals the chorus from The Letter, the great Box Tops song. And the rest is forgettable at best. Amazingly, I like very much almost all the excluded material.

Very harsh statement.
When you leave and slow learner are very moving.
Matchstick man is a bit dry on the record but live it almost brought me to tears.
Dance floor and My bacon roll are great songs.
One song at a time is an absolute masterpiece.
Don't suck me in and precious voice from heaven should have been on the record...

Yes, maybe a bit harsh. Sorry if it sounded obnoxious. But music is up to each one's taste. Plus the poverty of kast album's songwriting and all the recycling and reusing in DTRW are things that cannot be deined. MK has quoted himself many times before (WOL becoming Cannibals, MFN becoming Heavy Fuel becoming Imelda, The Mans too strong becoming Iron Hand becoming Je Suis Desolé becoming Privateering, All That Matters becoming Secondary Waltz becoming Monteleone, etc) but that was primarily copying the style, the air of the song. But lately he recycles full segments of songs (in Tracker we could see it, he chorus of Beryl stolen from the chorus of Behind With the Rent, Long Cool Girl based on Romeo and Juliet coda), and in DTRW it's too frequent. Actually, this slowing down of creativity has come very late: it is safe to say that MK has been an astonishing creative force for four decades, a lot more prolific, original, curious and inventive songwriter than any other of his peers (including Springsteen, Dylan, McCartney, Van Morrison, Paul Simon, Elton John and Sting). Unparalelled. But last album is poor, sorry. That's my take on this subject. Let's hope next one regains all the fire and originality

€23 ? Where?
I wait also. Target is €30
interesting times where USD equals EURO.

For me, DTRW is far better than Tracker, that is full of endless songs where nothing happens during the last 2 or 3 minutes of almost every saong, which are repetitive and boring.

DTRW is very varied and has a lot of interesting new things that are not in previous MK records, also is a record that only features the folkies in two songs, which is rare, and also has women chorus and brass, which also new on MK record.

I keep reading this argument from you about Tracker... I understand what you mean, but I think you completely missed the point of the album.
Tracker was special because it was the first album where Mark started reflecting about time, his life and his past. Probably because he was 65 back then.
But you can feel that theme, if you like, througout the album, of dealing with the passage of time and tracking himself back in both space and time, as he himself said. That's why songs like Long Cool Girl or Silver Eagle have long repetitive outros, it's him thinking about his life and past through the melody. And it's why I also love these songs so much, they would lose the magic if they had a random solo in them.

Tracker is one of my favourite three albums - Shangri-La, KTGC and Tracker and it is impossible for me to put them in order of preference.  When I listen to Tracker I feel that I am on a long journey with MK and it feels wonderful. :)

Great post, thank you.

Very well said and I totally agree with you.  :thumbsup Tracker is a very intimate musical journey and one of my favourite solo work by our master.

After four years, I noticed that Down The Road Wherever is the most criticized on the forum for its horns. I will always defend the songs Slow Learner and When You Leave. Heavy Up is a different category, but I agree with jbaent. Mark wanted something new and it's a beautiful album for me. Tracker too :)

Don’t know why but Silver Eagle is one of my favourite MK songs ever. I also agree it felt like he started being retrospective with his writing. We all do it as we get older. It’s easier to look back than forward when more of your years are sadly behind you.

 :thumbsup It's worth the wait

It's great to have an album Get Lucky that has 16 songs. It's great to have the number 6 album Back In The Day with bonus tracks for the first time on CD.

Yeah the Box Set No 2 has a lot value for us fans.
2 unreleased songs and all the digital bonus tracks that weren't released on CD till now.
That is maybe the reason why it costs EUR 17 more than the first box set   :think

Do america featured on a "regular" physic release (US and UK editions)

I don't think it was the case for Hot Dog ? :think

I am really curious why they didn’t  included “Hot Dog”.  :hmm
Why didn’t they add it as bonus on the original album in this box? Still a shame that you release a box set which included all studio b-sides and bonus songs and you leave only one song out of it.
But still I am enjoying all the extra tracks of this box set

Not on the German release, but on the MediaMarkt and other brand in Germany! If you buy the German release it doesn't have Hot Dog either!

Really enjoyed this second box. Played each album in turn, so many great songs. I love the expanded Get Lucky, and all the other extra songs on the outstanding disc. Packaging is terrific. Great to have the two boxes and the DS studio box. What’s the appetite nicely for a new album, hopefully, next year.

A wonderful listen. The DTRW has a totally different running order, and track list, to the original I own.weird. Has made it a very different listen. Also sad the number of amazing songs here we never heard live. Some of them baffling, such as One Song at a Time. Bizarre he didn’t play that. The quality of the outtakes cd is staggering, as is some of the decision making, especially on Privateering and DTRW. Probably Tracker too for that matter. Also, the musicianship and song craft on DTRW is probably the best it’s ever been. Some achievement.

So glad I bought the CD 'Gatefold' box set, I have all the vinyl albums already so didn't see the point in purchasing the vinyl set.
I am so pleased to have my fave album 'Get Lucky' in its entirety! So GL is now a 16 track album vice 11 as it now includes: Early Bird, Time in the Sun, Pulling down the ride, home boy & Good as gold all on the same disc!
The only downside for me is the lyric sheets are separate and do not fit into the CD covers.
Great to have lyrics for Back in the Day, Precious voice of Heaven & Your perfect song...
