Title: My humble SOS version over the MTO
Post by: trullols on January 05, 2015, 09:50:45 AM
Hi everybody!

This is my version of Sultans of Swing. Played with a Strat'61 copy ... and a lot of respect  :)

I can't say anything more than dmg :  :thumbsup :thumbsup

and how did you manage to include additionnal bars on the studio version that don't include these additionnal bars ? (I mean the ones just before the twiddy bits)

Please note that the original track may be very large, so they can cut at the best point in order to fit the song into the compilation (the side in the Long Play, CD, ...). They prepared the original song in order to they can cut it at the point they want, so the track is longer tan that. I supose I get the long version of the original track. I fact, I've cutted the track because it was much more large  :lol
And, anyway, with the right tool (F.instance, "Audacity", "Reaper" etc) you can cut & paste again and again the same parts of the track without being noticed, so you can get as bars as you want ... in fact, I could even mount an Alchemy version  ::)  and even beyond  :P

What do you mean with "additionnal bars"? Sorry but I don't understand  :think

I guess you used the backnig track coming from the guitar hero game ? the one with all original instruments except the lead guitar ?

if so, it is the original studio version.

In this version, Mak played the twiddy bits right after the "descending scale" (sorry for my english, can't find appropriate words) around 5:12-5:20
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xo-J1wf2KHc (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xo-J1wf2KHc)

on 20/04/78 if memory serves, they rerecorded the song for the single edit, and then for the 1st time, Mak added one "cycle" between the "descending scale" and the twiddy bits : 5:40-5:46
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JybLlsu_ZX0 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JybLlsu_ZX0)
and then he used to play these bars in every live version until recent years (I guess 2010, but not sure) where he returned to the original version like on the album, that means the twiddy bits right after the "descending scale"

on your recording, you are playing theses "adding bars" : 5:23-5:30, but if I'm right the backing track is the original version without these bars, so I wonder how you managed to match the length of your solo with the length of the backing track, and the matching with drums fills, etc....

hope it's clearer  :)

Yes, I see ... I had not stopped in detail to see this matter.

I suposed to be the original track. Maybe not. I get it from www.guitarbackingtrack.com, where usually I get the backing tracks I use.

you are very detailed  :lol Thanks for your explanations!

ah ok , mystery solved.
at first I thought it was the original track from guitar hero, because I heard Mark's voice.
But after hearing again, of course it is not, obvious with the drums.
it's a self-made backing track, perhaps using the orginal guitar hero track, or at least Mark's voice from a karaoke track or something like that.

Yes I love details  8)
