During his last solo tour, I think 2019 or early 2020 he entered the stage in a wheel chair or on a walking stick the best days, and get seated on a stool, and sung the whole concert seated. I guess he would do the same with Genesis

Who's the guy standing next to him with the beard? I'm sure I recognise him from somewhere...

Quite sad really....

People loved it. He sold out many additional shows. Being old is nothing to be ashamed of although it's hard to stand especially in a rock concert environment. And MK will be the same in 2022/2023.

I went to one of his concert in 2019 in our local arena. He came in on a walking stick, 40000 people standing and applauding. He stayed seated the whole concert, but his voice was strong es ever. He clearly enjoyed the whole concert as did his fans.

This is indeed great IF the performance is good, hovewer when an old artist go on stage and barely able to perform, this looks like a boxer who stays on the ring for too long. The appearance is only second to performance!

Mr. Burns disguised? You find the one under every stone these days 😁

Similar almost to MK in 2010 limping on to the stage and then taking his seat......I wonder if he will do this ever again??

Of course, if he still can sing and being for two hours or more seated singing, good for him! and for the enjoy of his fans.
I decided not to buy tickets for this Genesis reunion because part of the fun of attending their concerts was Phil playing drums, and he can't do it no more. His son is very good, even better than him, but it's Phil Collins playing drums what I want to see. And I saw it in 2007 in the last Genesis reunion, so, that's check on my list!

Yes, Phil's dance with the tambourine in "I know what I like" is something to be miss now that "he can't dance"

I suppose you could question why he still does it, as I'm sure it's not for financial reasons.....

It might be for financial reasons, he had another wife take him to the cleaners recently.

Wow!!!!
-
All this proves is that he's still alive and that he can wave his arms around - this was filmed in January btw! Since then he grew a huge beard!
-
Barely a glimpse of Phil himself. That should send alarm bells ringing.
-
Without Chester Thompson it's totally uninteresting to me anyway. I listen to Genesis a lot the last months and boy where they good even in still in 1992.
Great stage by the way.

Phil Collin's son, who is the drummer, is really really good. I like him more than Chester. Actually what I would miss is not Chester but the fact that there won't be any drums duets as Phil usually played along with Chester in most songs during the instrumental parts... now Phil can't play.
I saw some clips of the last Phil Collins tour, songs where there is a prominent drums parts, and boy, the kid plays amazingly!
-

Phil remains seated all the concert, sadly, so no drumming from him. But he still can sing very well.
-
Ok, so Phil can't play the drums anymore, which is a shame, but he is still the front man, he still brings his unique voice, and although he isn't a founding member, he might aswell as be as he goes back far enough in the history or the band and is still there. Most people will goto see/hear Phil not his son, no matter how good he is.

Help me out here. Rehearsels in january and touring in september ???

That video is from January. They gathered to rehearse in different periods, just in case the situation allowed them to play their dates, but they had to reschedule, as everyone.
They rehearsed again prior to what they expect are the definitive concerts, logically.

Other than them both being big in the 80s, MK has never really been comparable to PC in any way.

Your right of course Dusty, but I did mean health wise - I wouldn't want to see MK on stage struggling because he had to....
-
I like some of Phil's and Genesis music, but am not a huge fan, but if I was, and wanted to see them live, this is not what I would want to see, Phil barely able to walk and not playing drums!! It is sad, I wish he would just look after himself and not put himself through yet another big tour.
-
Phil Collins is a much bigger artist than MK and I don't mean this in a provoking way. MK is sort of a man with an excellent working attitude. But Collins during his Genesis times made a lot of stuff that will last. Mama is superior to anything MK has done. In my opinion. :wave

Seriously, I'm not a huge PC or Genesis fan at all. Don't you think MK has produced much that will last then? As for superior - that's a matter of taste but would not rank PC above MK in any shape or form.....
-
Comparing Phil Collins to Mark Knopfler is a road to nowhere. In my opinion, of course :)

It’s all a matter of personal taste. Both will be forgotten soon.
Bing Crosby was the biggest star on the planet not that long ago. Nowadays, not so much.

Should we compare them to David Byrne?
-
Well, as you say, LE, that's your opinion, but not mine. Of course, they are completely different artists, but to me MK is far superior and has produced masses of music that is still lasting, even 40 years on. As for Phil, I think "Mama" is beyond him these days!

Comparing in general is a trap.
Everyone is different.

Quite right Superval, MK is actually way superior and like you say he has produced some very good music that will stay the test of time....

Not sure you can easily compare artistes to be honest as they are all unique in their special way...
MK however is a different kettle of fish!!

Exactly!
-
It is all personal taste, there is no way to measure these things, Mark's music will last, no doubt at all about that. I adore Mike Oldfield's music, not everyone else does, that's fine. The point is, Phil seems in a worse health condition than Mark does, plus Mark has been more prolific a song writer, Phil's last album of original songs was Testify in 2002.
-
It's odd that formerly prolific writers like Phil and Billy Joel just seemed to stop.

Looking at the Genesis Last Domino tour, I was thinking that could be perfectly well the kind of tour MK would end doing in the future... Genesis are playing consecutive nights in big venues like the arenas in Birmingham, Manchester, Leeds, Newcastle, Liverpool, The Hydro in Glasgow and the O2 in London, plus some posponed dates in Belfast and Dublin arenas... 19 dates in the UK in 9 cities, in venues with a size that it would make it economically viable, not only that but also some dates at the RAH can be added just for the joy of being back at this wonderful venue, as long as they made money with the previous dates, they can reduce the size of attendents for just a couple of shows...
Also Genesis would do the same number, maybe some more, of dates at North America, that would be something also Mk could do if he wants to play the other side of the pond, if he doesn't want, just the UK tour would give a lot of chances to fans that usually like to travel to see him, making it economically viable, and not too much stressful for him.

If MK was fit enough and he felt able to do another tour, that sounds a reasonable proposition. Two consecutive nights at each venue sounds good.

Nail on the head Val.
MK always joked that he would play till he fell over, but would we really want to see him in that kind of state? Tough choice.

I don't believe that. It's just a joke.

I just watched the documentary. The rehearsals shows the band in top form, Nic Collins not only nails any single drum part but also add some extras that makes the song even better, like in the spot they are playing "The Cinema Show", but Phil Collins is very very clearly struggling with his parts...
Maybe he had the voice in good shape when recording that, maybe it's just the way he can sing nowadays. He tries his best for sure, but sometimes he doesn't deliver as the song demands. I appreciate that with all his health problems he's trying a last domino with his mates.
-
I think it will be Phils last tour. I do not see him going on tour again after this Genesis tour. He also says that after this he's not sure he want to go out on the road again. I do hope they will come to Europe next year....

If he manages that! He did look very frail and struggled with his singing...

I have watched this now, and no matter what Mark's current health condition is, surely it can't be worse than Phil, he is in a bad way, he can't play drums, can be the active front man, and his voice to my ears is just not up to it anymore, in fact it's almost embarrassing, and I don't mean that in a disparaging way, I really do think he should not tour again after this, even solo. It's almost like watching Syd Barrett going downhill!!! I like Phil as a man, he is a great drummer and front man, and has written some great songs, but It's hard to watch this and think this could be what is remembered as his last live days as a performer.

I found it very sad. I'm not a huge Genesis/PC fan but to see someone struggling to do something they were at one time very good at is heart wrenching. I only hope that the tour or whatever they are doing is short!!

Wow, I would had never ever expected that they would had linked "Fading lights" which is so beautiful with "Cinema Show"
Great to see again "The Lamb" even in acoustic format and one of my all time Genesis favorites, "Dancing with the monlit knight"...

"Nice setlist" is an absolute understatement. Dream set list I would call it. Absolute wow.

I would guess it's because they know it's the end, even if they are not saying that out loud, so, go out with a bang I guess.

And the best of luck to 'em I say....

Was curious to say the least and so have watched a few 'Youtube' clips of Genesis at Birmingham (first night) and I was pleasantly surprised by the clips I saw. PC seems to do ok with his singing....Any thoughts from any Genesis fans?

I saw the Moonlit Knight bit and Phil clearly struggle singing it, also The Carpet Crawlers, but Peter Gabriel songs were always hard to sing, only that Phil's voice nowadays can't do justice to them, however, in general, I think most of the fans would appreciate the effort, I do.

Also some very good reviews from the first shows...

Now they had to cancel the last four concerts due to some members of the crew or band infected with Covid!

I hope they will add some European dates when they come back for the UK concerts.

Very sad.

Unfortunately, there is always a chance someone caught it, but that's why everyone had their vaccines... Eventually, if we want to be back on normal, we should learn to live with the virus, which is not going to disappear, and trust the vaccine does its work.

Confidence is the main word here I think, and it will take time for most to return to a 'normal'....As one who has had Coronovirus I'm one who is very anxious indeed to returning to a 'normal' - I am of course 'double jabbed'!

Yes, totally agree. Confidence is key, but most of us would be afraid for a certain time, people like you that had it, people like me frightened by what I read from people like you... But being vaccinated, we would have to learn to live with the virus and hope the vaccine works. However, I would keep using the mask for as long as it's needed anyway...
-
Problem is, the vaccine seems to stop people dying from Covid (which is good!) but there’s still a chance of catching it. In normal life That means you might have to work from home or not work at all while you isolate depending on your job, but for a tour if it’s one of the musicians then all bets are off, as has happened here.
What this means for the future of touring I’m not sure. Best case scenario you have to cancel 10 days of gigs? How many tours can afford that if the cost is in excess of 100k a day? Insurance is presumably impossible to get.
-
Quite agree Dusty, touring wise its surely a gamble..
I suspect any touring bands like 'Genesis' are in some kind of 'bubbles' but its inevitable that Covid can creep in at anytime.....
With the Vaccine distribution this has indeed given some freedom back but again a lot of folk will be anxious. As you rightly say, death rates are very low at the moment (long may that continue)
You are totally right in stating that although one can be Vaccinated, one can still spread Covid...
-
Certainly an interesting and sad development. Obviously the main attraction here is Collins himself so wouldn't it be wise to have an understudy these days as they do in the theatre? As they say "the show must go on". I think it would make sense these days and people would surely be understanding.
If one of Mark's band went down ill there are several musicians we could rhyme off who'd be familiar with his songs having played at various appearances.
-
I think for Genesis you want Rutherford and Banks as well.

They are coming to the Netherlands in march 2022. Extending their UK tour?

They have added some dates in Germany France and Holland before they go to the UK

Looks like they need to recover some money from the lost gigs
