A poor copy of Early Bird which was much more original and better.
A good think in Early Bird I: it was shorter (only 2"40 versus 5"37 for the second season)

Early Bird was also 5.30...

The single release date was set on 7 sept according to 7digital. Remember that Mikel Camps said something about 6 september?

It seems PCM delayed it on purpose, but for how long?  ;)

After at least 20 listening times.... I think the song is really good, like Val I also spot snippets of other songs, some arrangements and the chorus of Early Bird, but NEVER heard something similar to the strongest parts of the song, in my opinion, that are the outro instrumental parts after each chorus, WONDERFUL MOOD, pure Mark Knopfler!!!

I really love the way MK delivers the line "the Camden shuffle and the old one two" !    Makes me smile!   ;D

What is the Camden shuffle anyway? And who may the Cockney rebel be, that Mark refers to? Ray Davies (Kinks)?

Camden Shuffle:

Cockney Rebel is a band with singer Steve Harley, best known for "Come up and see me, make me smile"      :)  Maybe Mark is referring to him, maybe another Cockney rebel!    :)

And who joined and toured with Steve Harley & Cockney Rebel in the late 70's?  A certain Guy Fletcher.
Knopfler, Oldfield and Gilmour is all the guitar I need.

I saw that clip earlier, but is that dance a 'thing'? Or is is just a random old man doing some random dance moves? Can't find any references online to a particular dance called the Camden Shuffle. Maybe it's just an obscure reference that Mark has stolen from a book, not very unlikely.

Maybe it's just an old man doing his own thing!   I hadn't heard of it before now!   :)

I doubt Mark watched that clip and decided to add that expression to a song ha-ha

So

It's somebody who has moved from a dodgy estate in London to California.

Could be a musician, a film maker (editing) or even a chef?!

I'm left wondering if MK considers Early Bird such an obscure song that he has no qualms resurrecting its rhythm & melody? Interesting.
Hey, i`ve got a truffle dog - finally a song the ordinary man can relate too!
