Robert Day was born in Sheen (East Sheen is a London suburb),  He directed "Rebel" and "The Quick and the Dead".  He moved to Hollywood in the 60s.    Could it be him?   :think

Thats what Border Reiver has been saying some posts ago  ;) ;D

Just collecting info!   ;D

The opposite of Heart of Oak in many ways: No depth at all, wether lyrically nor musically, overloaded but boring, too long, dull and uninspired, only disguised and covered with many funky gimmick stuff. Sax does not fit at all and turns out to be the major misconception in MK's recent work in general. A poor copy of Early Bird which was much more original and better. Probably pasted together on one afternoon. This obvious lack of inspiration makes me not exactly looking forward to the album with a lot of exitement. A cold shower after all this waiting. 3/10

totally agree

hope for something better for the other songs

What's all the stuff about juicers, cutting blocks, mangos and producers?  A boxer and a chef?

Well, many Californians are obsessed with healthy living, organic food, freshly-ground coffee, etc. As opposed to the "baccy and beer" mentioned elsewhere in the song.

...and of course a boxer would have to keep healthy living.  I'm trying to talk myself out of it being yet another song about boxing though.  Help me out!

 :lol

Nope you're on your own there.

I'd like to think this is the one.  Made a few films I didn't know were his.

Yes but, what's the connection to the rest of references?

The saxophone sounds like it was from the 80's and was often used on soundtracks. Robert Day's last film is 1987 The Quick and the Dead. Maybe it's a hint and connection :think

Thanks to all the members who have shared the song with me (Dutchessy, Pottel, hunter, binone, Pensaghost). It is a pleasure to be part of this community. Good feelings with GoYS. Surprised, but I prefer listen the whole album in november and give my full opinion (to avoid disappointment...) The song could have been signed by Clapton, musically, his Fender and his voice would fit perfectly. With Mark, it sounds very good and in another level.

"Now he’s cutting it out here with the quick and the dead"

As in cutting movies...

Hate to say it, but perhaps he's a drug dealer cutting coke?

 :hmm :think

I'm prepared to overlook them in the event it may be just another boxing song!  Seriously, he could bring out an album solely of boxing songs and it's a subject I personally have zero interest in, except I think it should be banned.

Personally, I'm waiting for the box set.
