Mark Signed Roger Waters Guitar
« on: February 22, 2022, 09:34:39 AM »
Mark has added his support and signature to Roger Waters guitar, he is sending it to Kurdish singer Nudem Durak who has been jailed for 19 years in Turkey for singing in her native language. Find out more below:

This is the first time I have heard of Mark being connected to Roger Waters, like he has a connection to the other 3 members of Pink Floyd.

A noble cause by the looks of things. Sadly I doubt the guitar will make it to her.

Not really a connection, but I remember RW said in an interview he thought 'The Division Bell' sounded like a DS-record (in a negative way). Must admit, Coming Back To Life and Lost For Words have a Knopfler touch.

I suppose they could be, Gilmour's intro to Coming Back To Life is amazing, and I could hear Mark doing that.
Knopfler, Oldfield and Gilmour is all the guitar I need.

Eric Clapton says in his bio he would go hunting with Mark and Roger all together quite regularly back in the day

I remember a chronicle about Division bell that said something like :

_ A great day for freedom sounds like Queen
- Take it back sounds like U2
- Coming back to life sounds like DS
- Lost for wods sounds like Springsteen

not exactly words "sounds like", but those artistes were the ones in  comparison

Roger was also the name of his manager, Roger Forrester.

In many pages of his book is difficult to know when he's talking about Waters and when he's talking about his manager as he just says Roger to refer to both.
You might get lucky, now and then

Interesting, I'd say that of those four Division Bell tracks the similarity between Coming Back To Life and DS is one of two I can hear - I can't say A Great Day For Freedom reminds me of Queen in any way (was the author thinking of a specific song?), and the song Lost For Words reminds me most of is Pink Floyd's own Wish You Were Here. I also agree with Take It Back sounding like U2, with the caveat that The Edge's guitar in songs such as Where The Streets Have No Name was quite possibly inspired by Gilmour's sound on Run Like Hell so to some extent it was also derived from earlier Pink Floyd.

Roger comparing The Division Bell to DS, even if intended as an insult, would rank as one of his kinder comments on the album - if I remember rightly on another occasion he described as it as 'absolute nonsense from beginning to end!'
I got shot off my horse, so what I'm up again...

I get that people like it in its own right but really it bears no comparison to classic Floyd.
