This is great news of course but I must say I am amazed by this.  Almost no promo and, let's say an uncool artist combined with music that is not currently in vogue all add up to poor sales and yet it's a chart topper!  I'll say it again - amazing! :o

Hey, thanks, AB!

Well, there was not too much big competition this week, so it seemed quite easy for him to get the top position... Well, done, Marky, nonetheless!

i never saw really empty seats in the venues i visited (even the huge venues like cologne, mannheim or berlin), so Mark is still one of the "most wanted" artists in the world, i was on concerts other artists that did not achieve a sold out venue

I was talking about this with a friend only yesterday:

Since I am going to his concerts and since I take care about pre-sales and stuff I never saw a planned show cancelled or delayed or moved into another venue - apart from the 2003 tour of course - six nights at the RAH planned, six nights sold out, big o2 Arenas booked, and always (as good as) sold out...

I remember Dire Straits in Australia and stuff, but I am talking about the last 15 years which had a lot of touring included - and Mark always did everything, every announced show, like a real trooper - no 70 minutes gigs, no deficits of any kind - just read and look at the so called younger super star, and you see how reMARKable that is...

So he has a very loyal AND big fanbase - and a very good tour management obviously...

It's in my CD player the whole time since release day so it is position no 1 - at LE's  home!  ;D

Haha LE, you make me laugh!

When I am behind the computer, I listen to the new CD's as well whole the time.
In fact the more often I listen, the more I start to LOVE the album!

Here is some extra information about the solo-albums of Mark in the Dutch charts in the past:

As DMG says, amazing results. Especially top ten here in the UK, with pretty much zero promotion.

Even here in Oz with nil airplay and only 1 tour since 1992  Privateering, has a debut at #25 with a bullet. The highest solo position for MK solo since STP in 2000 @ # 16. I

It's so good to see these chart results in all the different countries . . even in these times there will always be demand for quality music, and Privateering is absolutely top quality!

I'm kind of out of touch with the charts, but I wonder what sort of actual numbers of units sold we are talking about to get in the charts? Maybe there's somewhere on the web where it is possible to find out.
Bacon, egg and sausage, double chips and beans . . . . oh yeah!

Charts is not exactly number of units sold. If there are only sold 10 units in a week and you sold 5 you're definately on number one.
So you can't figure the sales from the charts.

It seems he is also No1 in Austria and No2 in Spain and also No2 in Switzerland. In terms of chart placings this could be his most successful album to date. With barely any promotion!!.

Privateering racked up 10800 sales to attain No8 in the UK

Amazing how few sales you need to get a top 10 album in the UK these days.
