Title: Did David Knopfler used a phaser effect in Down to the Waterline live versions?
Post by: Terry01 on April 01, 2019, 06:24:39 PM
First ever time that i listened to Rockpalast 79, i har some modulation effect, and i think that is comefrom the guitar of David.
What think about it?

yes he did.
the flanger can also be heard on the studio version
it comes from David's amp

on live at the BBC, there is no flanger. maybe on other gigs

you can hear the same effect on Once upon a time

It is not a flanger but a phaser indeed. David also played a MXR phaser on stage, I think the model 90 but as J.F. said he later used the built-in phaser of his Peavey Deuce amp.
