Title: funny intermezzo's by concert tapers
Post by: Pottel on April 08, 2011, 07:15:58 PM
don't you love it when people who tape a show, or people that stand/sit near to a taper, say funny/bizarre stuff on the recording?
the idea for this topic hit me again whilst listening to the end of Portebello Belle in Vienna 83, at the end of the song it sounds as if the taper is threatened to get his ass kicked by another concert goer, or security dude, the viennese accent is hard to decipher.
another funny example is the taper of the 1985 oct. madison square garden show who kinda introduces the band and venue at the beginning of the show.
Anyone got anymore funny examples??

Lots of talking during the "Boothbay" recording, isn't it? I have to laugh every time when Mark amplifies his "Swing at MacBeth" story and one man in the audience shouts, somewhat impatient "Come on, Shakespeare".... and gets a good laugh from the audience...

Ok, I re-read the first post of pottel and I understand that I did not answer with the correct intension - but it was fun anyway...  ;)

I listened to Vienna 83 a lot and I often wondered what were they saying... So thanks Pottel :)
I remember that during the bass beats in Private Investigations they say something like "it's like Pink Floyd"

On the Boothbay audience one you can hear Gayle (I think) dropping lots of "F bombs"...

About 10 seconds into the start of Bewildered at the Notting Hillbilles recording from 23/05/97 (which I went to) you can hear someone clearly say, "old age pensioners in Blackpool".  I think thats an honest review of a crap song.

During the intro of Sailing to Philadelphia (at 00:25 in the SimfyLive recording) in Nimes 2010, Mark said "whaoo, it's beautiful".
I don't think it was audible in the audience.

That's normal we were at the front row... ;D

We hear some " I love you Maaaark" with an horrible french accent... awww poor girl LOL

The Emerald City 1980-02-12 tape is filled with funny comments. Right after MK tells the Les Boys story someone near the taper says, "I hope they didn't play any Grateful Dead music."  :P

On the Manchester Simfy recording someone shouts "Give him a massage!"   :)

At whichever of the 2002 shows I was at (I can't remember), I shouted out "Lend us a fiver Bobby!" to Bobby Valentino who had just won thousands of pounds in a court case. You can hear it on the bootlegs and in the video you can see him laugh.

Well, this is mostly about something Mark says, but we do have the episode from Japan in 1983 where someone in the audience keeps shouting for Skateaway. Mark seems to get tired of this and replies: "Skateaway, Skateaway, Skateaway... Where are you? Skateaway, Skateaway... Go on man, do us a favour - skate away!"

Just listened to that on YouTube and thought "what's the point?" People like that make me feel uncomfortable.

Yes, I was there and he shouted for "Shangri-La" after every song!   At least we were treated to a superb "Tupelo"!    :)

I was there too, my local show!  I doubt the shout coaxed MK to play Tupelo but I honestly don't recall hearing him from the front row.  Best seat I've ever had I think.  Usually I get front row at the edge when I rather be 20 rows back in the middle! ::)

Depending on how it is spoken and by whom, I certainly think Scottish is one of the roughest-sounding accents of the English language, particularly Glaswegian. Funnily enough, Scottish can also be one of the friendliest-sounding accents. I lived in Largs on the west coast for about a year, so I know :)

Cockney makes a good second, but it is only ugly ...

On the Simfy London 2010 show you can clearly hear some femae shout "I love you Mark" on the "Piper to the End" track, not sure if in the beginning or at the end... And I also remember a certain YouTube clip from Brothers In Arms from the same show where we all are able to see a certain Lady standing RIGHT in front of him! So maybe... That person must have been totally knopflerized...  :lol :-* :-* :-*

I had never heard about that show until now. Checked it out on YT, and old Dick sure does a good American accent. Better than Hugh Laurie's.

In Gredos 2010 someone shouted very loud in spanish "Ole tus huevos", that is something like "How good are you" but with reference to their male atributes, which is a very tipical spanish sentence to encourage or thank someone who does something very good or something very brave  :)

Everybody laughed when that happened and its listenable at the simfy recording, but I cant remember in which song that happened  :(

Also in Valencia 83 recording you can listen people talking in valenciano, which is the language we speak at Alicante, Valencia and Castellon region (and its the same that people in catalonia speaks but with lot of differents words, expressions and accents) things like "cut that man

Perhaps my little joke is wasted on people not living in the UK but here Dick's Cockney accent in the film Mary Poppins is now gained legendary status for being so bad!

Oh, man ... I actually thought Dick van Dyke was British  :disbelief  Then again, I've never been a dedicated follower of his. So, yeah, the joke was wasted as far I was concerned.
