Lucca radio broadcast
« on: July 17, 2013, 02:43:52 PM »
According to Italian  public radio company website , Lucca concert will be broadcasted live on Rai radio2 channel. There's a streaming servìce on the site but I suppose it will be IP restricted to Italian ISP as usual

That would follow with the 2010 concert, both being part of the Summer Festival.  Thanks for the info.

There is a direct link to the official stream available:

http://www.rai.it/dl/portaleRadio/popup/player_radio.html?v=2

But I'd reckon that the quality of the stream is not good enough for a proper recording of the show.

The most widely circulated bootleg of Rome 2005 was recorded by myself from a live stream if that is any indication of the kind of quality one can expect.

Ok, then it will be fine I guess.

On second thoughts it will depend on the kbps it broadcasts in! ::)  To be honest, I was never really happy with my recording anyway although I knew that others seemed happy.  Same with the Lucca 2001 broadcast, Hamburg 2001 too.  Not pleasant listens for me.

It seems there are two (compressed) streams available: some kind of a windows media file playlist (.wmv) and a real audio file (.ra). No hints regarding the bitrate, though.

Unfortunately I can't further investigate due the use of a current computer setup without the deployment of proper speakers and software.
But as long as the broadcast quality is comparable to 128kbps+ mp3 compression, the recording will be ok. Surely it won't be a lossless high-end-recording. On the other hand the broadcaster may compress and modify ("enhance"....) the signal nonetheless on the way from the arena to the studio.

All that tech-talk aside, I'm really looking forward to this broadcast!

I understand people as I tried to broadcast live the RAH concerts (sorry for the big fail). Is like being there at this precise moment. The sticks is something recorded, something where you can choose the songs to be played or not, but definitely not at the very same time it is being played.
