Guys, mr and mrs kf, are just having coffee at the BIC waiting for my brother and his wife to join us. (this is his first MK concert!) I have purchased the MK lithograph and its No.177 of only 500. Really pleased with it as it has an MK strat on it. Will text Pottel once MK starts in only 1hr 20mins!!

Well, YTC could come later, as for Lubjana !
Anyway I'm said about YTC, THE song I wanted to hear live... it has been played 3 times out of 18 shows, I guess no hope for France. We have to bear with "playing" songs like ITUTC and GB instead... well, his choice !

Herlock, you never now, before going to Milano, I said I had reduced my expectations and would be happy with YTC, Marbletown and TR. Well I didn't get crows and I was very happy.

Actually he tends to reserve some songs for some cities. In Paris we got the rare ANISLA in 2010 and 2011 ! :) But then he becomes not such a rare song for the Parisians...

The Liverpool setlist was almost perfect! If Border Reiver had been the opener, it would have been perfect! :)
Forgot to say, during Seattle MK played part of "Ferry Across the Mersey" and there was a cheer from the audience! :)

It would have been too good to be true.
Agreed.
Not that I have anything against RAJ itself, it's a fine song, but I just can't stand anymore is priviledged status - always been played at every show (save for Dylan's), overplayed, overheard, whereas there would be other and better representatives of the MM album... TOL of course, 'nuff said, but imagine if we got "Skateway" the same way it was played in Friday Live in 1980 ! would be awesome !

Yes, so far I have heard people complaining about the way SoS ,TR and BIA were played, but never again have I read people who actually did not like these masterpiece songs ! Anybody here would dare to say "I don't like SoS, TOL, TR, BIA" ? this would be a first :)

I've got to stand up for R&J! I like the song yes, but it's better this tour than recently thanks to Mark's more energetic vocal; he actually sounds like he wants to sing it and isn't just talking the lyrics any more. He is also putting the passion into the final solo again like I haven't heard since 2001. With the sax from NH on the UK versions it's even better!
Skateaway is a great song too, but is never going to get played by a 2013 MK realistically.

I like the 2006 version of the RLRR DVD, quite energetic too, and Matt on the piano is doing a fine job.
This year's is fine but NH is as much underused as CW was overused... a little bit of sax at the beginning, a little bit in the end, makes very little difference ! where are the epic CW solos ?
As for stakeway, yeah, I think Mark is done with his MM period - the time he was trying to emulate Bruce Springsteen's R&R :) Yet the MM album is among the very finest he has done IMHO...

Yeah, the setlist is stablelizing... normal process for MK, but I'm not too happy with the ones which made it in a firm position (GB, HA,...). I am glad Postcards made it though, and that IDUAD is played regularly. But I'm very sad that last year's gems (KOG and YTC) were dropped... Didn't guy say that KOG would develop into something extraordinary in 2013 ? :(

When he plays BIA he plays it well (I'm talking about the lead guitar - I'm not very fond of the current arrangement, a far cry from the breathtaking atmosphere of "On the Night", but anway, BIA is rather shorter and slower than SoS and TR, I don't think it is physically that demanding for him...
And just to balance my view on SFA, I'm no fan, but I have to admit that the end solo is quite well done nowadays.

So the other RAH will not be recorded on USB, maybe these gigs get filmed for DVD?
Didnt Guy mention something in his diary earlier?
-
Woohooo that was some show and thank goodness we have a 'MK Strat stick recording of the show coming!!
The set was awesome and Mrs KF got her wish of 'Shangri-la' which I have to say was performed well but then it was played with one of the MK Strats!!
I cannot fault anything as it was a totally mind-blowing evening.
Reasonable second row seats off to one side but we have much better for Brighton and the two RAH shows. My brother was gobsmacked by it all so we have another MK fan in our midst. All the talk about Ian Thomas on drums - and now we have heard him he is most excellent, so no probs with me.
My word did Mark make those Strats, Gibsons and Pensa sing tonight! We had Marks speaker right in front of us so that was an added bonus!
Roll on Saturday now... see you all then...

A quite excellent Sultans:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Ho9GnaA1X8
-
The two MK fans in the car on the way home both thought "Sultans" was terrific last night, as well.
I was not overly impressed with the sax player - he was more than competent, for sure, but didn't seem to "stretch out" at all. He offered a bit of variation, a different flavour if you wish, but I didn't come away thinking, "Well, if he weren't there, those three songs would not have been as good".
Also, as an observer of these things, there was no stage rush after "Telegraph Road". at all. Three or so people came forward to take photos but nobody joined them, so the enterprise evaporated.

The same thing happened in Glasgow - no stage rush. Maybe we're all getting too old! :smack
I agree with you about NH not stretching out, but I think maybe this is under instruction since he is only on the UK leg of the tour and he is only really doing fills and no solos to speak of. It would be nice to hear him stretch out because there are videos on YouTube and the guy can play.

There was a huge stage rush in Liverpool! Ingrid and myself had to climb over the seats in front of us to get there and I noticed this morning that my legs resemble a map of the world! ;D Too old? Never! :wave

Sultans:
He gets better and better, today the first big mistake not before 6.25 min.. ;D, followed by a real fat riff at 6.47 min which is really cool, and the twittely bits are flawless! But all these versions have one thing in common:
Let's say, around 1991, you listened and watched breathless and stunned what he did and had problems following him and the speed of his fingers.
Nowadays, during Sultans, you feel a certain inner tension if he really will make it to the end - and most of the time, there is one or another little "break" that disturbs the flow because his fingers didn't do how they were supposed to be... But the energy of the song is still unsurpassed.
So do I like Sultans? YES! Could I live with it not being played anymore? Yes, because I think we already have had the best possible versions in the past!
A great video btw, very good sound and you can see Ianto doing his job from a very intersting camera angle.

"Inner tension." That's a perfect way of summing up exactly how I feel too, but I wouldn't change it for anything!

Got to say I am not a sax fan by any stretch so what Nigel did last night was perfect for me as he ddin't go OTT with it. I guess being a strat lover I don't want a sax 'drowning' out the delicate sound... But I have to say that I loved his part in IUTC and obviously R&J too.
