Interesting. Seattle is a whole other categorie and universe for me. That one is a real gem and a classic. I don't think I will ever really like Wherever I Go.
someone said it pretty nice: It is a mixture of too much well known stuff. Without any original new parts.

 :D ;)

Couldn't agree more. Seattle, IMHO, is one of the best songs he's ever written. Pure genius. Whereas Wherever I Go is a (quite beautiful, admittingly) re-hash of old ideas. I also fail to understand how you can compare it to Follow the Ribbon, another one of my all-time favs. Yes, it has a similar line in "wherever it flows", but that's about it. Follow the Ribbon and Seattle really deeply touch me, while this new one is just

I have just listened through my headphones to this and now having heard it 'umpteen' times I am getting to like this... The words are so, very beautiful and so is the Guitar playing...
I'm thinking how MK's & Ruth's voices go so well together....

I really can't wait for the 16th March now..........

It was bound to happen to you eventually, Knopflerfan!    When I'm unsure of a song, I usually listen to it when I'm doing something else and it almost always works.   I like songs that are growers more than the more immediate ones.   :)

PS:  I had a beautiful dream last night and this song ran through it!  I didn't want it to end!   ;)

You are welcome! By the way, very subtle music in terms of chord structure. Full of fancy chords! Beryl had fancy chords only in the intro.

:smack :think That Lick at 5:50... has been played on something else????? In the sky outro?

Been thrashing this all day and I have finally cracked IT!

Clue:- It's not from "In the sky"
Please, another hint. I've the same problem, and i'm dying. I know this three notes pretty well, and i even know a few next notes that are not played here. I would guess it's an allusion to DS Times, not to MK solo, right? But I'm not sure.
Hint 2: It is not from an MK composition.

As it often happens with mainly piano songs, chord voicings are quite varied.
Some guitar chords are crucial, though, and played through the song identically.
Basically, you can always simplify fancy chords to first letter (e.g. Cadd9 to C).

If you want to see how bad piano songs could be for a guitar player, check out Sting's 'Practical Arrangement':

Hope it is ok now  :thumbsup

Looks nice. Very cool idea with separate songs, by the way, that's the way it meant to be! Wish to have that feature on all albums.
I remember year ago or so I started a topic on re-organisation of discussions with separate songs and finally, the result is gorgeous.

Sorry for off-topic.

If you have already transcribed the tablature & or are able willing to do it for Marks previous albums we should (time permitting) be able to repeat the same format for each album.....?
A good starting point might be the two albums which are currently featured in the [Previous Albums] section, being, Privateering (2012) and Get Lucky (2010)?

I have a question about this song,  just want to know if anybody knows who's the saxophonist playing? Thanks. Can it be Chris White? Anyway I find this duet very awesome, Ruth Moody's voice is matching nicely with MK's!!!!
But it's written in the starlight and every line on your palm, we're fools to make war on our brothers in arms.
