I`ve read his comments on the Private Dancer solo elsewhere too - at first i thought he must have been given to sarcasm and was actually honouring Beck, well since then i`ve heard the song and, well really it is sh!t - very bad, sounds typically 80s - so i think Mark meant what he said in a literal way?

I don't think Mk would have made those comments unless he had already made JB aware of his feelings. He is not the type to air his laundry in public. I am sure he had a laugh with JB over how bad it was.

Simon, I have the very same DS pin. I love it!

Glad to hear it - I thought mine might be the only one in existence! I bought it on the 1979/Communique tour. It's a little jaded but it is a constant reminder of the early days.

The description from the seller said " DS 1980 guitar promo pin"  It looks the same to me except the color looks kind of blue. 
You can get it for about $13.00.

  It looks just like the pin on your avatar, Simon, but black where yours is red.  Also, it's on a white rectangle background.    It looks cracked in the upper right, but that wouldn't matter.   Sweetsurrender, I already have one of those, but thank you so much for finding it and posting.     Looking for OES and BIA tour pins especially.

knopfling,  I was thinking about the vinyl car sticker also.  Must be so cool !!! The price was quite reasonable.  If I remember correctly, then it's about $6-7 for a smaller sticker.  There's even one sticker that says " got dire straits ?" LOL.
