The first thing that came into my mind on first hearing was U2 - even the riff sounded like The Edge and Terence sounds like Bono!   At least it wasn't anything like DS and I enjoyed hearing Chris' sax solo.

Now that they have recorded their own material, I think they should change their name and stop hanging on to the coat-tails of DS.  They should have the courage to be a band in their own right.

I actually liked it... Sounds very promising.

For a band of their caliber, I had expected something better. Or different. Sounds very average. And the TV theme piano does not help ... Actually the song sounds like a TV theme.

yes absolutely

I third that, its all a bit silly now parading themselves as The Straits.  As for the song, its nothing special to me, the sort of stuff they play on reality TV shows when something uplifting has happened.  U2 and Coldplay watch out.

It does sound nice, but you'd think that musos of this caliber would do some original stuff, change their name and for old times sake just throw one or two DS songs for good measure? They could constantly change the DS contribution to their setlist....

I my book that would be an 100% increase in artistic credibility.
Still, good luck to them, stupid misleading name though...

Sounds perfect I must say. He has lots of perfect song but he plays DWB again and again.

"..  I think Mark was, obviously, a huge part of Dire Straits...
.. Maybe he wasn't as big a part as what I think...."

Ha,ha,ha,ha,ha,ha!! Poor Alan, so delusional.

I know what he is trying to say, and in a sense he is right, that "against all odds" they are able to "manage the legacy", etc. etc. without the main man. But it's just the way he says it. I mean, even though they technically have the right to do what they do, the whole thing leaves me with a bad taste in my mouth. Something stinks.

It's bit like David Knopfler too. You know, everytime DS is mentioned, or Mark!, during an interview he gets upset and everything. But as far as I know, he does use the "founding member" label quite actively. And he even sings DS songs during his shows. Just feels odd.

what cannot be disagreed with imho is when Alan says "he knows that the legacy of dire straits is in excellent hands with this band"

i see no problem in alan saying that. i do not feel like he is dissing or giving mk less credit then he deserves. mark was a HUGe part of DS, but not the only part. there was john, guy and alan (and pick and dave yes yes..) all part of that soudnd

Oh, nearly missed this today... This is so poor. I never liked Alan Clark to be honest but this really is evidence for what I can understand better now than ever: That GUY is in the band today and that Mark doesn't want to have dealings with Alan Clark anymore. Mark was the one who created the music - and they were giving their contributions to it, but without MK, Dire Straits never would have happened. And to play songs the same way than 1992 is something totally different as writing them and creating them and forming them into live versions. So Mark really has moved on. I was never more aware of that often used phrase than after seeing this poor statement. And Two Young Lovers was a b-side ahammm. It was also on the best live album of all times, but these guys seem better to forget the Alchemy album... I can't blame them for that... contains too much guitar divinity...

Just compare the two guys: Have a look again at the "Life In Songs" documentary where Mark talks about his stuff and look at these guys. Says it all.

Privateering!
