Chaps and Chapesses...
I dont know about you but with most concerts since the RAH now being available via those guys at Simfy - im sure most of us would like ALL the concerts but i speak for myself when i say funds wont allow that - so there must be some "must have" concerts...
So my understanding is - so far the must have's are:
30th May 2010 - RAH - for a cracking live version of Monteleone
7th June - Frankfurt Germany - as recommended my Doc Fletch
8th June - Luxembourg - for the amazing into to Donegan's Gone - which could be off the seeing in the dark soundtrack
Any others need to be considered?
Please if your going to add to this could you explain why you feel the concert is download worthy? it would be interesting to hear specific reasons when making purchasing decisions!
Thanks Guys!
-
So if I understand right all three available concerts so far are a MUST-HAVE? ;D - oh, I forgot Antwerp, that show must have been good, too!
I was thinking about some similar thread, really! When I read Guy's recommendation however I was not surprised - that show must really have been great!
I want Why Aye Man, Cleaning My Gun, and Donegan's Gone in good versions, because those songs were not played at London... But I think it is very
comfortable to wait and see what will happen! Maybe another killer show is appearing in the next few weeks...

All are worth having just for the simple reason that they made them available for all the fans, after so many time begging for this kind of downloads...
I have all of them, and until now, they are 4, and the 4 of them have variations in the setlist, and there are some songs that were played in the past that are not in this soundboards (a night in summer, remembrance day, local hero) that I wish make a last visit to the audiences...
-
I am currently listening to the Luxembourg one. I am in heaven at this moment listening to god himself. This stuff is invaluable, 15 euros are nothing compared to what you get! I am at Done with Bonaparte at this moment which I got a bit bored of it lately but this is one freaking awesome version, I love it! See ya when I am finished!
-
Glenn if you have RAH recording, please compare it to that Luxemburg stuff. I really hope that they will play Remembrance day so we can get a soundboard recording. What do you think why they stopped playing that? The usual "Mark wasn
-
My feeling as to why they stopped playing "Remembrance Day" is perhaps they decided it was not the right time of the year! Remembrance Day is November 11th. :-\ I felt it was a bit off-season myself! A bit like playing a Christmas song in summer! :)
-
Yeah, probably a good reason. There are also enough "quiet" songs in the set so it is one dreamingly, although great, number too much. Maybe the singing wasn't felt easy for MK... However, I like the set as it is now very much! I prefer WAM to WII, it is a better song number two in my opinion!

I think they stopped playing RD because it was a big changeover for Richard in equipment terms and in Oakland he made an error at the start by forgetting his capo. Since that mistake they have never played the song again so it's a bit of a coincidence... :-\
-
We have all different opinion regarding what would be the "perfect" setlist.
Myself was very pleased with Tuesday setlist and performance in London.
Tomorrow is day off and Paris Bercy has no early curfew (can finish his show over midnight without problem) so a one hour extend with plently of extra song is possible if he want to - play everything!
;D

What do you think why they stopped playing that? The usual "Mark wasn´t happy with it"? Or played Tim a big part of it....I don´t think so.
Silvertown
Luxembourg is the only one I bought as I was waiting for a nice setlist , so I can't really compare but for me this was incredible I absolutely loved it,the sound is very very clear, you can hear parts in BR that you couldn't hear before,I bought this mainly for Why Aye Man because it surely developed a lot and these 2010 versions don't even compare to the early ones.Sultans of Swing was a very good version and I think it was mixed(or however you call that stuff) pretty well and it is a good reason to tell people that Mark is still the guitar god ,he hasn't got any slower he just likes to write new stuff that way! I am so glad that Donegan's Gone is back to the set I hope it stays a while ,I loved the one from this concert especially the ending which was faster than the other nights!
And yeah Mike McCusker, (as introduced by Mark in this one,I didn't expect it and it was very funny) he added a lot to the music and I am so glad he is staying for the rest of the tour!

Haha yeah but Mark made a mistake in introducing he said Mike McCusker instead. Funny! :P

Hey I now fully understand what you wrote 8)

I've so far bought Frankfurt which is really good. A bit bass oriented but worth 14.99 for Marbletown alone. I will probably buy Luxembourg to bet the set variation too.
-
one word, after 10 shows for myself: Antwerp! even with the short setlist.
-
Well, I've "only" been to three shows so far but my vote goes to Frankfurt. I still don't know what happened that night. I have seen Mark in the Festhalle three times before (no wait, four times - if you count the ATRR tour as well) and it was always a good show, but still average, and I always hated the audience. Boring people being bored and behaving very reserved. Bad sound, standard show. But last Monday I was completely flabbergasted. Everything negative had turned into something positive. It was magical. I still wonder if it was really Frankfurt! I just wish there had been some more setlist variation but oh well. Definitely buying it. Oh and there were positive, very enthusiastic reviews from audience members and the media (I count myself to both ;D ).

This is a mouth watering thread :D. Still waiting for pay day next Friday! Can't wait.
-
Luxembourg... WOW
AMzing Marbletown (every day is better) and magic, sorry, I mean MAGIC donegan

Seems like the "must have" list is shaping up nicely....
So far we have
30th May 2010 - RAH - for a cracking live version of Monteleone
7th June - Frankfurt Germany - as recommended my Doc Fletch
8th June - Luxembourg - for the amazing into to Donegan's Gone - which could be off the seeing in the dark soundtrack
Additions -
6th June 2010 - Merksem (Antwerp) - Because Chairman Pottel says so!
Like it! Keep those reviews and recommendations coming!
;D

Indeed! I think this will be an expensive month for me! ::) Maybe we should open a new thread that warns about which shows should NOT be bought...
because that might be a shorter one :lol :lol It seems the tour has reached its highest quality level so far...

Live in Paris (Simfy) is really Fantastic!!! ... and the back of "A Night in Summer Long ago"...
-
I only have RAH and Antwerp so far. On balance I would say that RAH is the better performance and mix, but there's not a great deal of difference.
We really are being spoiled by all this choice. :)

But Mk voice in Paris is not very good, he try to sing very high and sometimes it sounds more like screaming than singing (A night in summer, for example)
-
I think he tried to sing it a different way than usual.

I don't really want to endorse a negative thread, but I do agree with LE. A list of Simfy recordings that should be avoided would be much shorter. From the comments so far made it seems that every show is going to be a "must have" :)
-
This may have already been mentioned, but any idea of how long these Simfy concerts are going to be available for?
I was maybe going to wait until the end of the tour, then buy maybe 4 or 5 in one go, depending on the setlists, quality etc....
Such a shame about the other RAH nights which are yet to see the light of day. I was at the 2nd night, and i thougt this was better than the 1st. Better versions of SOS, TR, HFB & Marbletown :P
Cheers BBB

i phoned them yesterday (they are residing in Cologne) and the guy was not sure, but in every case all shows should be available at least as long as the rour is running, probably much longer, but I asked because I want to compare the shows and read some more reviews before I decide which other ones I purchase... He was very friendly but also very half-hearted. So as the tour is running until the end of July, we will have some other very nice shows and MUST-HAVES to buy....

-
Other artists' shows seem to be available after their tours finish don't they?
-
Passalong had the shows available for 4 years, until they went bust...
Would be good to have more retailers for the shows, like virgin music or FNAC...
Ok, i know, i open the pandora box for heavy lawyer stuff headache ;)
-
Didn't PC say at the RAH that the shows would be available for "forever"? I think that was the word he used. Not sure if he definitely knew, of course ;D
-
Yeah, but he also added "which will mean at least for two weeks..." with an unexpected dry british humour... I know it because I was the one who asked him! (proud proud proud ;D)
LE
-
Ah, now I remember! ;D
Okay then, the added sentence puts the whole thing into perspective, of course ;D
-
he also mentioned that all shows, starting with the Dublin show would be sold (proud proud, it was me asking the first question and the other one aboutall past tours, on which he gave his now famous "supertanker" reply) ;D

So you mean that we can hope that the full RAH run will be published.
That would be great because Monday and Tuesday were to my ears the best ones

Fingers crossed for Glasgow with Phil Cunningham. :)

Yeah - Glasgow with Phil Cunningham would be great! Can

as far as i understood they had issues with RAH the venue, not anything else.

i mean nothing,.lol...but i guess so...

In my view, the "brand" RAH is very expensive.....
But it's a magic venue, isn't it?!

In the USA, there is a holiday on May 31, called Memorial Day. It is just like Rememberance Day (Veterans' Day in USA), but in this one, people go to cemeteries and place flowers on the graves of soldiers. For many years, it has become a day to remember all loved ones who have died. So maybe MK played Remembrance Day a few times for that.
-
Since these shows are currently NOT being made available to those of us in the US, I will resort to downloading them when I travel to visit my daughter in Germany. She has a German ISP and a German credit card so I'm hoping to be successful.
A question for those who have downloaded the shows . . . how large are the files for a whole show? I want to be sure to bring a large enough memory stick or quality discs with me. Thanks in advance for any answers.
I will be over there at the time of the last show in Wurzburg . . . and close enough to get there. Not sure what the ticket situation is for the last show but I plan to bring my gear just in case.
