Title: Dire Fakes - Keyboard Player Found!
Post by: Jon on November 25, 2008, 03:19:04 PM
Hello All

Following the recent departure of our keyboard player, Dire Fakes are on the lookout for a new ivory tinkler.  As some of you know, we're a well established tribute to Dire Straits and have been entertaining audiences in the UK & Europe for a number of years.

Keys play a big part in our live arrangements and there's plenty to keep a competent pianist/organist busy throughout our set, with a bit of synth thrown in too.  We're looking for someone who can replicate parts accurately, although there is room for some variation night to night.  We rehearse in London and will resume gigging as soon as we've got the right person up to speed.

Visit http://www.direfakes.com to find out more about us.

Please get in touch if interested, or if you know someone who might be.

UPDATE: Position now filled - see below.

Jon I just read this message! It's a pity that Gerry is leaving the band, it was nice to talk to him!

I hope you soon will find a new keyboard player or perhaps you already found somebody?

If you don't mind then I will post this message at my forum at Audiocandy.com too! Many musicians are watching there, perhaps somebody is interested or know a person who would like to play! ;D

To watch the message, please use the link at the bottom of my messages and then push "My station Listen and Love this music" - Music of Dire Fakes! ;)

Hi Jon,

I really hope you will find the one you're looking for very soon.
It was a great pleasure to have you on our party and I hope a lot more people will enjoy Dire Fakes in the future.

Best regards
Ingrid

Thanks for your messages of support.  It's always difficult when something like this happens.  I thought I'd mention that we were looking on here as obviously someone who really likes the music is who we're looking for.  There don't seem to be many keyboard players on here though, or at least interested ones anyway... :)

However we have held auditions before Christmas which were quite promising and we still have a few people to check out.  I'll update the website as soon as  there is definite news.  I'll probably post something here too.

It was great playing at the party and I'm sure we'll be back out on the road again soon.  I can't wait!

Hello all

I'm pleased to say that Dire Fakes have found our new keyboard player, in the shape of Mr Andrew Sackett.   :D

Andrew has had a wide and varied career in music that has included being a cathedral organist & working with The Osmonds!  Although we're dentally challenged in comparison to them, we're very excited about the abilities that Andrew comes to the band with.  Rehearsals are going extremely well and we hope to be back out on the road very soon.

More details on the website, when I get round to updating it.  Those of you on our mailing list might get even more information...

That's GREAT news. I was wondering how your quest for keys was going.
Can't wait for you to get back on the road again. ;D

Yes, that's exactly who I mean.  Andrew was musical director for a cruise company for a few years, meaning that he worked with all sorts of people, including The Osmonds.  Come to think of it, you posted something about Crazy Horses somewhere on here, didn't you?

Yeah I did! I don't remember exactly which thread anymore, but I'll try to find out!  ;D

I told that at the time when I was a young girl I loved Donny Osmond and bought 2 vinyl albums. One of them was indeed Crazy Horses..........in fact I still have those albums. They are part of my youth!  ;D

Hey Jon I found the thread again! It is in the General Part called "The first single I ever bought". I told about my first singles and albums!  ;D

Btw if you liked the Osmonds too, I have 2 beautiful funny videos of Donny at my site.
You can use the link at the bottom of all my messages:
- Then go to my forum:
- Do you remember these artists
- Fooled by Ushi

I have seen these ones often, but they still make me cry because of laughing! ;)

Btw did you already book gigs again now you have a new keyboard player?

Haha, I'll check those Osmonds things out.

We've been approached about a few things while we've been laid up, but those are still in negotiation.  We have a firm date in May in the Southampton area, so if anyone is from that neck of the woods, would be great to see you there.  More dates will be firmed up in the coming weeks.  I don't think we'll get to The Netherlands this year though.

BBB, the place we payed in Brandon has closed, which is a real shame as we had a great night there as you may remember.  It was Paul's first gig and we were wondering if he would remember everything, but the crowd were so enthusiastic.  I was really hoping we'd play there again this year, but it won't be possible now.  I feel sorry for the people that were running it too.  Do you know of any other good places around there?  That audience must be going somewhere...

Jon. I will put the feelers out for another good venue.
Is there a particular 'ideal' size venue that you prefer.?
There are some great pubs in Norwich which cater for live bands, and also some purpose built venues.
Are you happy if i ask around over the next couple of weeks to see if the venues are interested, or would you rather me just compile a list of a few places for you & Alan to investigate.?
It would be GREAT if you could play in Norfolk again. :D

Thanks BBB.  A list would be great, then we can take care of all the communication with the venues ourselves.  Anything that gets a decent crowd in for live bands might be of interest.  Decent size pubs or theatres that have tribute style acts would probably be best.  Appreciate your help.  It would be good to get to Norfolk again, although it's a bit of a trek for us...

Last summer Eastbourne bandstand had a series of Tribute bands each w/e for about 6 weeks or so. They were v well attended and v good I'm told, though I didn't catch any. Some bands did a couple of nights, some only one. I think there is a good chance they might run again this summer. Google Eastbourne Tourism or Eastbourne Borough Council, where I would imagine there may be contact info.

On April 4th, i'm going to see a Clapton tribute band, called 'Classic Clapton', performed by After Midnight.

A tribute band who have been together for over 20yrs. :o
On their website    www.classic-clapton.com        there are some pics.
One of which shows the main person who plays Eric Clapton, standing next to MK in 1989.
So he's obviously a fan.

Anyway. The venue is in Norwich, at a place called 'Maddermarket Theatre'
I have never been before, but when i booked the tix, i asked about how many people it holds.
It holds just over 300, and other acts to perform in the next few months are a Pink Floyd, and a Queen tribute band.
I will report back after the gig with general details of venue etc.........

Maddermarket Box Office No..  01603 620917

A possible venue for DF.?

I will keep you posted with any other possible venues. :)
