Quite irritating that the site of the German retailer SATURN says the genre of Tracker is "Country"...  :think ;D

Back to the album for a sec......

My only concern is that we all know that when a single gets released off an album its pretty much seen as the best (if not one of the best) tracks on the album...

Musically yes this was a great tune.....lyrically....it was pants - is this the "best" track on the album?  erm - I'm a little worried...... :-\

Redbud Tree wasn't the best track of Privateering, neither.
I think that there will be splendid tracks on the new album.

I think the singles are usually just chosen as the more upbeat numbers.  Other album tracks are sometimes better, sometimes not.

I doubt this is the best track from the album. I think it just a track from the album that suites the radio format. It is that short. And although the length of the song is not an indication of quality, I'm quite sure that songs like Wherever I Go, with its 6 minutes and 24 seconds, has much more to it. Beryl is just a taste...
It's the end of a perfect day..,.

Clearly 'Beryl' was put out because of its Dire Straits feeling. And Mark said it's a song with the strongest DS feeling in it.
Look at how people love 'Beryl', people really love it. And this snare drum intro just like Sultans. Best choice for single ever!

I'm not expecting something like this on the album. I expect country and folk.

With that musicians, as you say, all indicates that it's not going to be country.
You might get lucky, now and then

I think he does country rather well.  There's always been a bit of a country influence in his music right back to the early DS days.

It depends what you consider country. I mean country like 'Are We In Trouble Now', classic american thing.
Also there is bluegrass, this is stereotypical american country with fast tempos, violins and banjo. You decide :)

:wave Just noticed that AMIT TV's 'MARK KNOPFLER TRACKER Tour 2015 *USA Canada dates NOW*' video has had 36,000 views in the past 4-weeks. Found the stats per viewing country interesting. Would be nice for someone to maybe compare the record sales figures in a few months time with this interest shown now, prior to release, with these stats?
Male to Female was also a BIG surprise M 83% to F 17%
