Many thanks, 3Strats for the heads-up!   I have just finished watching and it was lovely to see MK on TV again, even though I have heard some of the stories before. :)    :wave

Hi Val. I hope you are doing OK.

I did think "oh no"  when the presenter started asking the "will Dire Straits ever get back together even for a good cause" question,
but I thought Mark handled it gracefully while making it clear that they wouldn't.
They gave Going Home plenty of attention but I felt they could have spent more time on the new album.
Always nice to see Mark on TV.

Always nice but same old stuff for us get a lifers.

Except for the fascinating revelation that MK has a weather app on his phone that he checks regularly, wow!

Still, a nice long segment as these things go and good on MK for going all the way to Manchester to do it, he seems serious about promoting this new record.

Yes thank you, Aidan, I'm doing OK at the moment.   :)

There's a recording facility (for games) on Windows and mac computers, it will just record whatever you're watching.

Well, many of them are predictable these days, you're right. But then the questions aren't exactly innovative either, and it was six o'clock in the morning :lol
As far as I'm concerned, I'm just happy to see him. He might just as well be reading out the telephone book, and I'd still enjoy listening. :-)

Not as easy as it looks.

These guys have to interview a wide range of people, musicians, actors, politicians, "ordinary" people etc AND make it accessible to a wide audience who probably have no idea who the subject is.

So you probably think you could make a more interesting interview with MK by asking him what pickup he used on Single Handed Sailor, but could you read the news without stumbling five minutes later then grill the UK health minister on operation waiting times?!

also their audience is not the least interested in pickups, unless they're F150's

For the type of setting and audience in question, I thought this was a pretty nice interview. Nothing new here for us of course, but it's just nice to see Mark.

exactly

I write for both my personnal blog and the generalist media franceinfo. And I made several interviews too.

Of course, I don't write the same things wether it's on my blog and I know that die hard fans will read it, or on a global media that people read but are not interested in details like we are.

When I published my article about DS live boxset, my chief said it was  alittle bit to much "detailed" for a large audience...
https://www.francetvinfo.fr/culture/musique/rock/un-coffret-live-de-dire-straits-le-groupe-culte-des-annees-80-des-pepites-mais-aussi-des-imperfections_6183117.html

some years ago, I  had the chance to discuss during 1 hour with Paul Personne, a french bluesman. The interview was for franceinfo.
we talked about his new album, and about guitars and gear

In the article, I put his "general" answers about the album, lyrics, news, etc...
https://www.francetvinfo.fr/culture/musique/chanson-francaise/funambule-de-paul-personne-regard-acerbe-et-melancolique-sur-le-monde_3457941.html

And on a YT video I put his techncial answers about guitars... which was intended for guitar-freaks
https://youtu.be/DamYM2AcGWQ

Both publications had different audiences and that was fine

I think I got my question wrong, I meant I know many of Mark’s answers before he himself replies.

And I really enjoy seeing all these interviews!

Soon this topic was up, i would ask if Mark was wearing his all-blue outfit.
Maybe his outfit will last longer more than his DS era belt.

#humor #blueoutfit

But as others have said, it’s a tough job. You will interview all sorts of people, some of whom you probably dislike. You’d have to interview politicians whose party you can’t stand and all sorts. They’re briefed, have to absorb information well and quickly and interview all sorts of people. It’s only natural for these guys to ask the questions that we already know the answers to and it’s perfectly natural to ask about a DS reunion, even if the subject makes us glaze over.
