so, who'S going where? so i can modify it above?
-
Arrrgh... I wanna say I'm going to the one at Grand Prairie, TX, but I'm hesitant to make 100% definite plans for something that far ahead. I must confess that funds might be an issue for me (a college student who probably should be saving his money for classes.)
-
PixelPerfect: you never know when MK will stop touring and you have to see him live at least once in your life! It's not far ahead, I expect us European to be nervous buying tix in september for April til June 2013!
-
I am definitely going to see him in Philadelphia. If it wasn't the night before Thanksgiving, I might have gone to New York, too. This will be my first time seeing Dylan. I'm glad I'm seeing them at the end of the tour. Waiting for the presale to be announced.
-
Sacramento. Now with four tickets. Two are for sale at face price.
-
Just like my previous yearning to fly to Europe, Id really like to fly over and maybe see the gig at the Hollywood Bowl.
How much are tickets Iris? And do all the gigs sell out, how soon would I have to buy one?

Nice work again Chairman. Be nice if we could get set list info live also. Folks let Pottel know if you are able to help bring AMIT's concert responses up to the high level set by the good folk at expecting rain:- http://expectingrain.com/discussions/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=65074.
-
Fletch, for the Hollywood Bowl this year, all the good seats are taken. They were in the $215-$240 range. There are still seats for about $90.00 and $47.00 but some are waaaay on the edge and not front, and others are waaaaaaay back. It looks as if there are still plenty of those.
-
Booked a flight to the US ! :D
Gonna crawl down the west coast from Seattle to LA !
-
I'm going to San Francisco both nights and Berkeley. 3 shows altogether !! Can't wait for Oct to roll in.
-
I will either be going to Madison or St. Paul. I live 1/2 between the two so will have to choose soon as the tickets are going on presale soon. Don't think I will do two as originally planned. Just not enough MK time to justify two concerts imho.
-
Well glad I didn't leave it too late to grab a ticket in Seattle, there's nothing listed available "on the floor" so I ended up at the side of the stage - hopefully with not too many giant speakers blocking the view.
I guess there will be space enough before thousands of Bob fans pour in!
-
updated.

Going to Sacramento also!
Asked at shop today (Aug 30) if they had my Deluxe Pre-order, "yes" he guy said, "but were not allowed to sell it to you until tommorow." I could tell he wasn't going to change his mind. Doh! Tommorow it is then!
-
anyone of you yanks tapin'??
sure as hell hope so folks :-)
coz i'll be returning the favour next year :-)
-
I've planned to do so. Just purchased a 16 gb memory card. 2 shows in SF, 1 in Berkeley.

Tix for many shows are going on presale on Monday the 10th.
I am planning on grabbing some for BROOKLYN.
Last concert of tour = Last Exit To Brooklyn. Now won't that be cool if he played something from that soundtrack!

Santa Barbara Bowl and Hollywood Bowl for me. I like both of these venues. Wasn't much interested in the Sporta Arena type place in San Diego, so I'm happy with the two I'm going to.
Sorry, though...no tapin'. Don't have the equipment.
-
I wonder if our chairman has arranged with Dylan tapers that they tape MK shows as well
;D
-
Yeah, we really need some good taped shows... just imagine some possible changes in the set list and no recordings.... I remember in 2010, the US audiences seem to be less interested in producing good audience recordings than European people... at least with Mark...

I must admit to being a little disappointed with the recording of Dylan shows last year and the fact that his fans just ignored recording Marks set. Even if not for themselves, then it would be a non-selfish act to record it for the MK fans in the hope that we would reciprocate. If we all did each other a little favour - and it didn't put us out - then it would make us all a little happier. Of course it's completely up to the individual what they want to record. :)
-
I will be at both Michigan shows and plan to attempt to record the Auburn Hills gig.

I think the last time Mark was at The Palace of Auburn Hills was with EC in '88! Have a great night and we'll all look forward to the bootleg.

fully not true. only one bob taper ("Spot") explicitly declined. ALL others taped both parties.

I stand corrected then. It just seemed that way to me when I perused Dime. I fully apologise to any tapers offended.

Anyone know what this is about?

There seems to be some confusion about the form of Mark's performance on the upcoming North American tour with Bob Dylan. Mark will be performing a 70 minute set with his own band prior to Bob's performances each night. These will be full electric and the band consists of:
Mark Knopfler
Guy Fletcher
Richard Bennett
Glenn Worf
Ian Thomas
Jim Cox
John McCusker
Mike McGoldrick
We look forward to seeing you there.
-
I was surprised when I received that mail, never thought that anyone would expect something different from what happened last autumm 2011 :o
-
Oh, I could imagine that a lot of "ignorant" Americans (sorry for sounding harsh, it is just that old prejudice) or let's better say "ignorant Bob Dylan fans" couldn't give a damn about what was happening with Bob in Europe last year - as long as he not toured the US. Now it is all new to them - including asking if MK is maybe playing an acoustic set alone, or if he and Bob play together - all the same kind of questions that arose last year BY US when the first information came up. ;)
LE
-
Yes, the old prejudice that made us think that most of the Americans thinks that Europe is a country...
Well, not most of them, probably just the ignorant that, according some friends living in the States, is a big part of their country.
Just prejudices, but I understand that maybe most of them ignored the European tour, probably as much as we will ignore or not care too much about this American tour, as it happens too far from us to care...
-
It would be a different thing if you had not the view of the 2013 MK tour for sure. Just imagine this Bob Autumn 2012 tour would be the only live outing from MK - I am sure AMIT would keep a big interest of course. And for sure I will look at every show that is reported about referring set lists and recordings!! ;D
LE
-
Come on, lets be honest...
We are get-a-lifers...
We will be waiting every setlist every single day ;D
And what will make it most interesting, the different time from wherever they are playing and Europe!!!! ;D ;D ;D
-
I can't help feeling a little detached from this tour somehow. The weaker than usual build-up and the fact that we don't have that many forum members from NA go together to make for a detached feeling, like I'm not really a part of it. Usually we get a few reports each day and I really look forward to hearing what our friends have to say because our opinions matter! This time though, we don't have the coverage - so to speak - so I won't be quite so eager to race to the computer and discover the treasures of last nights show. Don't misunderstand, any MK tour is still worth getting super excited about and there's still Guy's excellent diary as well. Oh, and the little matter of the bootlegs!
-
I would be very angry when MK chose to change the set list every night in any other way than 2011 - and we would not have any recording!!! Better he plays exactly the same set list as 2011, then it is not so hard to stand not to be there...

cool little story
he should've bought on mk.com
-
Very nice article indeed. Am I wrong or, with a few exceptions, MK is admired by everyone he works with?
-
Which exceptions?
-
Which exceptions?
Almost for certain, a man called David, whom with he played on early days of his now defunct band. Other guy I think its not exactly in good mood with MK is Ed Bicknell.
I also wonder - this is a personal thinking, not based on any piece of objective information - if Alan Clark and Hal Lindes would have good memories about the way they were put aside by the man.
-
ed is on normal to good terms again, as far as i understood. alan, possible, hal? why...
-
ed is on normal to good terms again, as far as i understood. alan, possible, hal? why...
Yeah, I think they are, after having an unpleasant disagreement. I recall discussions on TR-list about the meaning of "Let's see you", which was said by many to be aimed to Ed.
Regarding to Alan and Hal, as I wrote, it is just a personnal feeling. As far as I know, Hal suddenly left, when the band was warming up to record Brothers in Arms. Same for Alan, who never workd with MK again since ancient times. This always sounded odd to me, that's all.

Alan came back for the Swan Hunter thing in '93 and again worked with Mark in the masterclass thing in '99 so relations appear somewhat mixed there in my opinion although maybe a little strained post-Straits!
-
My first post!
I think things were fine with Alan until he joined "the straits". Mark lost all respect for Alan after that, along with Chris White and Phil Palmer. I believe Mark will never work again with these guys because of this.

I agree with you, communique and I can't say I blame him!
BTW Welcome to AMIT! :)

still, this cannot be proven...

Actually Alan Clark wasnt invited at all for the MK and Friends, when all ex Dire Straits available (John, Guy, Chris, Danny) played at that gigs with the adition of Robbie McIntosh on guitar (the rythmic guitar in DS was always a changing one...) and Geraint Watkins instead Alan on keyboards...
I never knew why Alan wasnt there, and instead was that funny keyboard player.

Alan was the missing link at these gigs. With him it would arguably have been DS but without it was almost DS.
Geriant was such an amusing character on stage with his rolling movements and perma-smile. He looked like a weebl man when playing his accordion. :lol

Updated. Hey shootingstarnight, besides my usual question of who those girls re in your avatar ;)
Will you be taping? And will you be ble to provide us with a live SETLIST? ;)
-
Hal Lindes did not "leave the band" on his own; MK fired him.
-
Hal Lindes did not "leave the band" on his own; MK fired him.
I would rather say that Hal was a bit upset that Mark didn't "allow" him to play what he wanted, as he did with almost all musicians in the band at the time.
So Hal decided to leave, but you're right, it was a decision influenced by Mark's attitude (as it was for David), so in a way you can say that Mark "fired" him
-
Those Sacramento tickets still for sale for any last minute planners.
-
Hal hadn't earned the right to 'play the way he wanted.' He was the newest member, and in spite of rehearsals and guidance (strict guidance ;)) by MK, he'd break out and do what Hal wanted to do during performance, thus upsetting the rest of the band. And yes, he was fired. Given a choice, but when he continued to want to be the divo, he was fired. :clap

Never likes his trousers anyway.

According to ER the concert on 13th November in Detroit has been cancelled and moved from a 20,000+ seat venue to a 5,000+ venue! Expectations were obviously too high! :-\

Next time he should ask his (AMIT) fans where to play. In other countries they are waiting for a concert since years, full halls guaranteed ! But maybe they just don`t like BD in Detroit ;)
-
Yippeeeee,
Just bought a ticket from Bob's fan who couldn't make it to Sacramento on Oct 20th. Floor row L (not too bad) so, pottel, please add me on the show in Sacramento. 4 shows for me. Yeah !!!!

I didn't know he was upsetting the rest of the band
Of course he was sometimes a little bit "OUT" the band 'style (but was'nt Jack Sonni more ?), but on the other hand I find that he evolved in the good way betweeen the MM tour and the LOG tour (maybe with Mar'ks advices ? ;)) :
listen to his solo on Portobello belle : awful (and somtimes completely out of tune) in 80-81, and very tastefull in 82-83 (the MFN comp version)
I also like very much his solo on TYL, far better than J. Sonni, or P. Palmer IMHO
his licks at the end of Industrial disease, and intro to Expresso love are very good IMHO
his electric licks on PI are much better than Sonni or Palmer IMHO
I prefer his tone on Romeo & Juliet than Sonni and Palmer (awful distorded tone)....but OK, I prefer Richard above all ;D
And last but not least, he was the only DS 2nd guitarist "allowed" to play :
1) the expresso love rhyhtm riff intro (on MM and BIA tour, it was Mark)
2) some (very tastefull IMHO) licks on Sultans ! (and being the only one guy quoted on this song !)

Where did you read/heard that was the reason?
As far as I know nobody gave a reason about Hal Lindes departure of the band.
-
i believe there is an early interview with the band (excl. mk) on the BIA tour where they sort of discuss on his departure...
-
all updated.

thought it was on the OUATITTV series somewhere..

A bit late to update this as I only joined.
I was in Vancouver, Seattle, Portland.

Late addition.....I'm heading up to Vegas tonight. MIght be awhile before they come back to the states, so what's a 3 hour drive on a weekend in comparison?
Hot or What would be a great fit, but I don't really expect it.
