Hi
At the official site and some official german .pdf document, its thought that MK will start out and BD will play the second half of the concert.
I am thinking, whats the point of it all, if they do not play together, so which tracks do you think they would perform together ?
Personally I hope for at least to hear "Knockin On Heavens Door" with both of them.
Jyske Bank Boxen, Denmark, and Malm
-
I'd like to hear the whole of Slow Train and Infidels, is that asking too much?
-
Besides everything that Mark has played with BD, I'd love to hear his guitar on Man In The Long Black Coat - my favorite Dylan song. I gives me shivers anytime I hear it, and Mark's guitar would make it ultimate experience.
-
All along the Watchtower.
Dylan's best one.
-
'Precious Angel' for me please!!!
Cheers. BBB
-
"Blind Willie McTell" :P Listening to it now! :D
-
The man's too strong... 8)

"I and I" :)
-
Sailing to Philadelphia! :lol
-
The hurricane :o
-
knocking on haeavens door looks like a probable candidate to me.
but would love to hear mark on series of dreams, blind willie and things have changed.
-
Pottel I also have been thinking about "Knocking On Heaven's Door" and .....I am sure Mark's guitar playing would sound WONDERFUL when they would play the song "Lord Protect My Child" together, that's one of my favourites! :P
Fieneke
-
I also think we'll get Knocking on heaven's door :disbelief but no Blind Willie McTell :'(
+ Money for nothing +AATW
-
This Is Us! :lol
"and you in that amazing dress
I was stoned on love I guess"
-
My guess is no songs together. Keeping expectations low.
-
It is of course possible, but why bother with this kind of tour if there ain't no playing together? There's got to be songs together. Maybe encores or something.
-
I just hope they play together Dylan or other artists songs, I dont want Bob Dylan
-
I'm very positive that they will play a couple fo songs together. One from BD, one from MK.
May be they can do a duet in "R&J" hahahaha. That'll be really funny. ;D
-
I reckon Precious Angel and Jokerman are certain. Not sure about which MK song Bob would join in, maybe Marbletown?
-
Might be slightly off topic, but when I think about this Amnesty International 50t anniversary album, I wonder which song it is that Mark has contributed... And if it might be on the next MK album, too! And of coursed this would fit very well in Mark's set of the coming tour, or even be played together with Bob on stage...

i believe guy confirmed it was "knocking"

OK! I could do without STP though! ::) The most important thing for me is seeing MK and the band again, but I would really love to see Bob and Mark perform together - that would be the icing on the cake, even if Bob can't sing! :)
-
The flutes and whistles are there though and must be used! So must the cittern and fiddle. So WII and STP are bankers. It may have been better if John and Mike weren't there; then we could have looked forward to a slightly altered set or at least different arrangements.
-
I love the flutes and whistles and they would make a complete contrast to Bob's set - he doesn't have any! ;) But the title of this thread is about what they will play together, so, hopefully:
Blind Willie,
Precious Angel
Slow Train
Knocking on Heaven's Door
I & I
Things Have Changed
Jokerman
For the flutes, whistles, fiddles, etc, in MK's set I expect WII, Speedway and Marbletown and if he must....Bonaparte! :)
-
I hope he'll preview some from the new album and a few that haven't been played from GL and other solo albums. :)

That would be very nice. We got Quality Shoe and Why Aye Man during the 2002 charity shows so it's not outwith the realms of possibility!

Well, I also hope that he won

I expect Why Aye Man, Coyote and Song For Sonny Liston in the set, don't know why. Maybe the return of Jim brings back Calling Elvis/Je Suis Desol

That would be great, but Guy said a while ago that MK was put off playing unreleased songs as they would appear on youtube before they are released and in crappy quality.
-
I put Speedway in the set because I thought he would want to show us what the new guy can do.
I don't think Elvis will play again! ;D
Piper is fine as very last song but the concert isn't ending there. Bob's still to come on remember!
Border Reiver to start because it uses pipes and whistles up and John and Mike won't be redundant.
-
For his 70th birthday he has to play Forever Young.
-
I think that it will be a special setlist, without Sultans Of Swing for example, like on the ATRR tour.
-
I don't know if Mark and his Bobness have any time to rehearse together before Dublin, but if not, hopefully they can put a couple of things together backstage on the night!
Good optimism - sadly MK doesnt do things like that! Any tune has got to be rehersed to within an inch of its life!
-
Gf: 2 seperate shows
So, no songs together i suppose...

Could be so, but as someone else has mentionend, what would be the point if nothing is played together ?... it would not be disappointing to me if there were not. Alone in the fact that MK does a small tour right now, is a huge surprise in itself. To hear MK & band for just 1 hour maybe is a pre-christmas present ;)
-
There's NO chance of them not doing a few songs together. I'm willing to bet money.
-
I do hope that they play at least 30 minutes together after Dylan
-

I totally agree Gletch, so I can bet WITH you, but not against ;)
-
It seems to me that the only possibility to see them both will be if Bob joins Mark's set for the last few minutes/songs... That would give him a big cheer as he is "top act", and would also give Mark the honour that Bob duets with him. I cannot imagine Mark waiting for an hour or so backstage and then coming back to play with Bob.
I am not so sure if I would be very happy if it would work out that way because it would shorten Mark's set in a way. But if they play "Knocking On Heaven's Door" with a nice MK solo or something else it would be fine. Bob could then go off with the band and return after the break with his own "pants".
BTW, I decided last night that "Boom, Like That" has to return into Mark's set! ;D

Haha LE, that would be a good option too :)
I start with Dublin and when I have seen BD once it's enough, so if BD and MK play together between the 2 sets it means that at the other 4 concerts I attend I can go to the pub earlier. No need to see BD more than once :P

Bob change between 4 and 6 songs from one concert to other, are you going to miss that????
;D ;D ;D

After all, we should not forget that MK changed the set lists of the first leg of the last tour very often. I think there were no two identical set lists in the whole American/Canadian leg? And even if it is only one or two songs, it was great to read a new set list every day. Of course later on, when the band had found the right "pace", I expected one set that rolled out to the end of the tour. Mark has always done that at earlier tours. But I think we got pretty much variation on the last tour.
Not comparable with Bob Dylan, but great nevertheless.

I think I can't handle his voice 5 times ;D

Not really great at all. The set itself was virtually identical to 08, 06 and 05, and changing one or two songs out of a pool of 25 or so isn't really great IMO.
-
It was nowhere near identical to 06! In fact quite different.
-
Agreed - the last few tours have been too "samey" - mix it up a bit MK - sheesh you have enough of a back catalogue!!
-
In terms of Mark Knopflers tours since 1996 I still think that the last tour had a lot of variation in the first part - they tried out some things, there was a "surprise" at almost every night in the US, that's what I mean. You probably never expect MK to dance or have girls up in cages on the stage - the same goes with backlist variations at his shows. Related to that I have no complaints about the Get Lucky tour.

You have to remember who these tours are for though - they are not for the "get a lifers" like us. Although we would love loads of obscure tracks, MK is tailoring these shows to a general audience.
You can't argue with the results. Despite not getting much publicity or being talked up by critics, MK has built up a very large and loyal following. People KNOW they are going to get an excellent show when they go to see MK. Dylan knows he can live off his name, that he can put half arsed performances and people will still go, because critics say "It's Bob Dylan, he's a legend, you HAve to see him." MK can't rely on that.

Your kind of right - during the Get Lucky tour i didnt expect Border Reiver and certainly didnt expect an amazing live version of Monteleone...however that still doesnt change the fact core songs have been wheeled out for several tours - What it it, Sailing, Telegraph Road, Done With Bonaparte, Marbletown, Speedway at Nazareth - the list goes on.....

Agreed - MK is very good live - and im hoping i dont live to regret my decision about not seeing him live this time around....Your right - MK is doing the "songs are signposts in peoples lives" thing with his setlist and i totally see the sense in that - Dylan has been touring and making records longer than most and he knows due to that status people will flock....since MK lost the DS "badge" he has had to largely make it on his own with a kind of - ill record and play where and what i want - if people want to buy my records and see me live - then great - if not - no biggie - and i really respect that!
-
bob plays anything from horrible nights (check out London feb. 1990 shows, worst i ever heard) to brilliant ones (check out Fairfax 2002 or Kingston, ON in 2004)
-

Thats true, his voice is something you cant explain, its something you have to suffer by yourself ;D

And to be fair to Bob, he's been doing that since the 60s.... That's what I love about him as an artist, criticism doesn't seem to be a concern. He's an acquired taste live!
-
i believe in you from Slow train coming. brilliant MK on guitar....

Yes, I love "I believe in you" too. Probably my favourite from the album, though, is "Slow Train" - Mark's guitar licks sound very similar to "I Think I Love You Too Much" imo. I also love "Gonna Change My Way of Thinking". The whole album is great and I really hope they play something together. :)

After know that with Van Morrison he did just two separate concerts, and now with Leon Russell he

I'm going to Manchester, which is all-seated and I expect to be on the first 4 rows. The set-list doesn't really bother me much, but it would be nice to hear something different, of course. Seeing MK and the band is the most important thing for me, plus the opportunity to see Bob, for better or for worse! ;D

If anything does happen it will most-likely be in the middle of the tour.
I do not expect anything in Ire or Scotland, but here's hoping I'm wrong:)
It will probably take place in the middle of the sets the duet, but most-likely at the end of Bob's set.
I'm hoping for any Imfidels or outtakes from the record. "This we my love" would be amazing.
Then if there were Mark songs as duets; maybe DS song or 2:)

I've changed my mind and think Mark will go all out to impress us this time with a revised set! What do you think:
Ride Across the River
Expresso Love
Six Blade Knife
Communique
Ticket to Heaven
Tunnel of Love
Solid Rock
Private Dancer
My Parties
:o :o

I always knew that eventually something like that would happen.
