Do you mean the weight of the instrument or the playability? I think that it is more about playability. But then again, wouldn´t it be okay with lighter strings?

I ment actually the weight of the instrument itself, but playability could also be the reason. Or maybe both.

Anyway,  don't think a better and different sound could be the reason.

I agree - now the sound it very thin.

I think we're all in agreement with this one!  The National is one of his iconic guitars, starring on his most famous album cover and concert goers don't get to see it now.  Sad really because people had some sort of relationship with it I feel.  As soon as the light went on and reflected off it when he played the opening noted from R&J the crowd went mad.  It looked like a glitter ball during the song and sounded fantastic.  This new thing sounds just plain dull.

Yes, I am in full agreement too.   I can hardly hear the guitar on R&J and it is (was) one of my favourite songs.   Shame!     ::)   Please MK, bring back the National!!

If it's a weight issue there is a simple carbon fibre answer:  unleash the Steinberger!
"I'm playing all the right notes, but not necessarily in the right order."

It's a beltona he was given as a gift from his band at the end of the golden heart tour.

He played it mostly with the nhb. First time he uses it in his solo tours

Regarding the tuning, is his guitar tuned a half-step up so Open G at capo 8 becomes E-major? He must be doing that for sound or playability reasons, right? Makes no sense to use both a capo and tune a half-step up for just playing in the right key?

Is it custom made by the way? Cause  all the other Beltona Electro's with a cutaway I've seen seem to have a different body holes

These things have quite heavy strings and are more difficult to play even if not tuned up. At least that's my experience with resonators.

I can confirm it, 100% sure;

RB and MK are sounding through KEMPER Profile Amp on their racks. They have 2 Kemper each.

I could saw them last friday in A Coruña, during production set up.

Wow, didn't expect that, MK is quite fond of expensive tube-amps, I know he likes new tech as well but this is quite a change.
