Live Release from Get Lucky Tour
« on: May 28, 2010, 08:47:17 AM »
I'm confused the after read 2 different replies by Guy Fletcher....

Live Release
Mike Buck
NC 27th May 2010
That's quite a nice hint dropped re: hoping for a Live release of this tour. I've had a feeling all along that RAH shows would be filmed- hope that feeling turns out to be true. This tour and this band just 'feels right' for a DVD/BluRay release. It seems to be universally believed by fans and band alike that this is the strongest tour and lineup of MK's career. This period really needs to be properly documented. Record a few of the RAH shows, mix up the sets a little, and you should have a ton of brilliant material to share and preserve. Fingers crossed...

Guy's Reply : fingers crossed. No filming at the RAH though or indeed anywhere though.

Arrangements

I'm totally in love with the new arrangements that the band adds night after night. In **** (put some **** there) for example it fantastic the new part when the solo enters, great bass lines flute arrangements guitars violin keyboards etc great taste of music. I am entering every day to this forum waiting for news of a Live album or anything like that! greetings from Buenos aires

Guy's Reply : I'm sure there will be some good news for you soon.

well, that's perfectly clear to me.
They are talking about a live album (CD), but nothing is decided yet

I want to have a proper, official DVD! Man, this is getting frustrating. Why the heck is it so complicated to release a friggin' tour DVD!!  >:( >:(

No way for a DVD, this time.  MK's sitting, and RRLR sells so poor.  But I believe they are picking one of the audio recordings to release.

2010 is basically the 15th year without an official live release for the solo career,
both audio and video

According to Guy this is the best tour ever, the best band ever by far!
So I don't see the point with MK opinion (we all know he's the only one who can take a decision about that).
I'm almost unhopeful to wait for a posthumous official live release.
Don't get me wrong, I don't want to wish MK a bad luck but...if we miss a 2010 DVD live release I don't see any other option.

Allen, you are right.
A DVD with MK sitting - No chance.
Anywhere. I hope he is getting well soon.
It is strange to see him sit all the show.
When he plays Liston, or Get lucky or Monteleone...O.K.
But the other songs... No

Guy says "this is the best tour ever, the best band ever by far" every tour so we might get a recording of some sort for the final tour which will presumably be the very best! ;D

MK sitting down DVD can be quite a charm.  I don't see why not ! ;D  There are plenty demand without even having to market it.  The fan are screaming for it.

This is quite unaccurate. Here are the post 1996 live releases (even if they are hard to find). Not counting "A night in London" and "Sultans of Swing" bonus live CD:

1) "Sailiing to Philadelphia" single, with "Balooney again","El macho" and "Wild theme" live 2000
2) "Why Aye Man" single disc, there is a 4-title edition with SAN and SFA live in Toronto 2001 (audio, video clip of WAM available for download on Itunes)
3) TRD bonus CD, with WAM and QS from the 2002 charity concerts, and STP and BIA from Totonto 2001 (audio)
4) Shangri-La tour soundboard recordings, 14 of them were available via passalong (until May 2009)
5) "Boom, like that" live in Denver, available as a b-side of the TLWNF single (and on Itunes)
6) RLRR DVD+CD, feturing not only ATRR duet but also SAN, SFA, WW, RAJ,DWB,SFSL, OSL from the solo career

Not that bad, but difficult to get, except for RLRR

a double live cd with selected songs from different shows
would be very fine with me
What you describe is probably the best of what we can hope for now. We may still get dumb mp3 files to download, or even nothing at all...
While a double live CD would be nice to have (at least, hopefully with the best version of ALL songs played), it is no substitute for a BR. I really go hooked on BR live music now, the Police one is amazing, it think it is the proper way to document a tour nowadays.
MK sitting ? so what ? in the 2009 promo concert that was indeed released, he is also sitting; and we can hope that he recovers fully before the end of the tour anyway... the fact that he is sitted honors him actually - the show must go on, no matter what !
Anyway... again, we are not in his head... I will still buy the double CD of course.

Well, Guy is always saying that this is the best tour so far - and the best band and the best crew and the best bla bla bla. That's part of his business. I would not take that as a parameter for a live release. Apart from that, I must say I find that thought above quite harsh.

I'll probably get shot down for this, as like the next man I like something physical to hold.  However if the cost of releasing an official DVD of a concert is a concern to MK's management then I would be quite happy to download through iTunes.  After all the quality would be great.

Is the actual recording expensive?  I think it is the distribution that is the problem.  Coupled with the fact I don't see MK having the desire to do it.  He seems to put his energy into the studio stuff.

Harsh? well maybe. but I feel a bit mocked by this treatment as a fan. it's been years we have to rely on unofficial videos about MK solo carrier. Unfair.
Again, don't get me wrong, I love the man, I'll be attending two shows this tour, one of them at RAH, the other one in my hometown in Italy, I play in a DS/MK tribute band. All this is nothing but a love declaration for his career as an artists. Simply I can't understand (is there anyone?) his disregard for fans.

They record every night anyway. YOu can see the mics pointing out into the audience to pick up the applause.  :-\

I feel that releasing one quality album every 2 years + making a 4-month transatlantic tour every 2 years cannot decently be considered as "disregard for fans" - especially, from a 60-year old artist with a well fulfilled 33-year old career behind him. The man could be just sitting on a beach in the Bahamas, surrended by 10 20-year old pretty girls...
The thing is, yes, he is not interested in live albums/videos anymore. As a fan I regret it, but I also like the simplicity of somebody who is not indulging in overcommercialisation. He is not Madonna or Lady Gaga ! :) Maybe he feels that a live concert is just like a drama play - you can watch it on tv, but it is a poor experience compared to going and seing the actual thing live.
The RLRR poor sales don't help either. I'm sure it's not about the money, but about self-esteem - the lack of motivation to lauch a prodcut which you feel is doomed to failure. Or, he does not want to appear old and sitting on screen.
I regret that, but I respect it...
