Songs that could be played live
« on: March 02, 2013, 08:03:53 PM »
Following on from the thread about songs that could be played live, which ones that have been played would you like to hear played again. A few (Straits focussed) from me:

Wild West End
Six Blade Knife
Southbound Again
Single Hander Sailor
Skateaway
Tunnel of Love
Private Investigations
Ride Across the River
You and Your Friend
On Every Street
Iron Hand
Fade to Black
Imedla

Good choices. I would also add:
Down to the Waterline
Setting me up
Lions (Dormund'80 is awesome !)
News (same ! How a little unassuming song can be turned in a live masterpiece)
Once Upon a Time in the West
Where do you think you're going
Portobello Belle
The Man's Too Strong
Planet of New Orleans
Rudiger
Golden Heart
Imelda
Silvertown Blues
Junkie Doll
A place we used to live
Boom, Like That
Postcards from Paraguay
Punish the Monkey

I think Ride Across the River is a good shout. Most people (even the "tourists") will have the BIA album so they will be familiar with the song. Mark could easily still play it and could drop something like the overplayed BIA.

PoNO is another I love live too. I know that would be popular around here.

Skateaway
Y&YF
Junkie Doll
Silvertown
and of course the one and only... Pointless even mentioning it. :'(

BIA may well be one of his top five for many people, but not me and I've heard it far too many times now. The best versions were on the BIA tour IMO anyway so it's been all downhill since (except perhaps the Mandela version).

Yes, the great ToL.

Ooohhh I still LOVE BIA! I think it is even better sung live now then at the BIA album, because his voice is more mature!

I can mention a LOT of songs that could be played live, BUT...........if Mark would sing "The Long Highway" and "I am the Fool" live, then I will enter the stage and reward him with a big kiss and hug!

The big kiss will be at his cheek of course, after all we both are married!

I agree with you, '85 versions were the best, especially for the rocking ending, which was dropped already in the same tour in '86 !!
Mandela is great too. This been said, the official "on the night" one is really nice and breathtaking. A fine choice for an official release (unlike MFN which was much better on the bia tour and in music for Montserrat)

Keeping in mind the present band line-up and musical tendencies..this is the list I came up with from both the DS and MK catalogs that would fit well:
DS:
Iron Hand
Ride across the River
Water of love
Portobello Belle
On Every Street
MK:
Je Suis Desole
Golden Heart
Punish the monkey
Junkie Doll
So far from the Clyde (never played live before...and should be)
Camerado (would make a great opener!)
Doctor parkinson declared Im not surprised to see you here
Youve got smokers cough from smoking, brewers droop from drinking beer
I dont know how you came to get the betty davis knees
But worst of all young man youve got industrial disease

There are a lot, but 2 that come to mind straight away would be, Silvertown Blues and I would like them to give a serious crack at On Every Street.

I can't understand why he has an apparent dislike or uninterest in Silvertown, when most fans think highly of it. It's a good song.

I think I'll go and tell Guy to inform MK to get his finger out and put those two in the setlist for the new tour and fling DWB to eff :thumbsup

I think he sounds terrible on BIA now; so tired, weary and no effort at all.

As for the last paragraph: :lol :lol

Are you really MK fans?

Most of all the songs you are mentioning are DS songs and many of them quite old. Don
You might get lucky, now and then
