I hope that he gets back "Silvetown blues" for the O2... it would be weird playing in Silvertown, in the Silver Domme, and not playing it...

I agree. But on the other hand, he might feel that it is inappropriate and that´s why they have now played On every street. Like he told on an interview that he considered not to release Silvertown blues on the record, because the Dome was finished before the record came out. Or something like that if I remember correctly.
-
Indeed a perfect venue to play OSAAT!!!
* What with Deptford being only 3 Miles away and the site of Execution dock is only 6 Miles away!!
-
But 02 may be just another ordinary gig for Mark :think
-
I agree, I don't hold out for any further surprises. Mind you count your blessings upon seeing him LIVE....
-
But 02 may be just another ordinary gig for Mark :think
Last tour he mentioned before playing "Privateering" that he was thinking all day in the gig as it was very close from the place where everything started, Deptford... I'm sure that when checking the setlist for the day, he will note that he's playing in Silvertown...
-
I've just smuggled a packet of opel fruits (sorry, starburst. Showing my age) into the O2. Does that make me a wanted criminal?

Loving Twitter tonight from the O2. Best so far:
not saying the audience at Mark Knopfler is old but the woman in front of me has brought her own cushion

Apparently BIA tonight according to FB but I don't know about Silvertown. A huge venue like this and it's like an information blackout!

Usual set. No Silver town..BIA instead of Piper. Left after that so unsure about Going Home.
-
On every street
Speedway
MFN
BIA
GH
For MfN he had a camera attached to the headstock of the Les Paul, like on the Basel 92 video. This fed the TV screens. Good multicam screen footage.
Top guitar playing and arrangements. I think the horns add a lot. I've seen MK at various shows since 96 and this one was probably the best after Wolverhampton 96. They have really put some serious work in to the set. Guitar playing and tone really good, didn't feel laboured like last time I saw him
Also no farewell speech. Just that he thought about retiring but said he loves it too much. For a big venue a nice feel.

Thank you. Yep screens on. Will uploads some pics when I get home. Amazing concert. Same set list as 2nd night RAH I think. 3 things of some note: had a lighting & screen issue on one song so all lights off & screens in v low res mode except just 2 spots on MK. Then suddenly then all came back into life again. Am sure it wasn’t the design. 2. MK again asked somebody to turn camera (flash?) off on R&J. And finally lots of crackling on one song which MK joked about. He was in great humour. Davinity x

First time seeing Mark live, I thought it was really good. WAM was a strong opener, and I liked the brass. I'm a big Van Morrison fan so having horns in the band is not a big deal to me (nice to hear Van playing over the PA pre-show too). CBC has never grabbed me on the album, but I thought it was really good live; the slide playing was especially crisp. STP followed and here you have three songs all with the theme of having to leave home to find employment. Great version too. OUTIW and R+J were both really good. I'd read a few reviews about Mark's voice, yes it is a bit more gravelly but that's about it, it was still really effective. Anyway, dropping an octave never did Leonard Cohen any harm...It must take a lot of confidence to follow one of your biggest songs with MBR but...It was ok, I just don't like the song. MM was an unexpected highlight for me. Really lovely arrangement. I like DWB but, even though this was my first gig, I've heard the intro on enough live recordings to know this isn't a spontaneous performance! HFH sort of links with MM but again, there's so many stronger songs that could fill this spot. YLT was a massive hit so was always going to go over well. PFP and OES are both songs that I'm not a really a fan of so, no matter how they are performed, didn't really do much for me. I was hoping for SB, but it was not to be. Last three songs were all performed strongly, although by BIA the voice was sounding a little tired. Overall, I enjoyed it. Good band, love the brass section, sound was excellent for such a big venue, at least where I was sat. Vocal and guitar playing were both strong. If there was any criticism I guess you could say there's so many good songs, even on the new album, that just limiting yourself to sixteen or so, seems a shame. Ironic that 3 songs from BIA were played, but only two from the latest record. Would have loved to have heard OSAAT, DTRW, or DR, but what was played, was played excellently.
-
MK was in fine form tonight. A very powerful lick full BIA tonight. Probably the best concert of all London shows.
-
Last tour he doesn't 't play Seattle in Seattle. This he doesn't play Silvertown in Silvertown...
He got balls!

Which videos?
That cammeras are not there to record but to broadcast the images on the screens.
If the O2 wants to record as well will need the MK permission and probably pay a fee.

Just a few thoughts on last night.
Before I begin I'd like to add a caveat that having seen numerous bands at the O2 since its conversion from Tony Blair faux pas to soulless cave/music venue/shopping centre, I utterly hate it as a live music venue. However....
Last night was probably one of the best Knopfler gigs I've seen in 35 plus years of attending concerts.
The sound - Wow, well dare I say, it was better than the RAH, I was say about 8 rows back on the right of the arena, and you could literally locate every instrument within the mix of any song I'd say probably 90% of the time, my test of this is to listen out for the citterns at the end of speedway, and they were there, clearly audible at probably the loudest point of the gig.
The cameras - Not usually a big fan as they can cause a distraction and I'm still not sure of the morality of paying large amounts of good money to watch a concert on a giant tv, however they did add to the atmosphere and it was nice to see up close some of the dexterity of the other guys, especially Jim Cox and The drummer boys. The return of the 'neck cam' for MFN raised a smile although I can just imagine MKs response to strapping that to the headstock of 6 grands worth of Les Paul!
MK - Guitar wise, probably the best I've seen him play in some time, very few errors if any, lots of shaking fingers (as many have commented on before) but a real return of an aura of confidence about his playing, to see him like this brought a tear to my eye.
I also have to mention Marks vocals because I don't remember quite such an authoritative performance as last night, his lovely baritone rasp held up for most of the gig, something which I don't think I've seen across an entire concert from him since the 80s. He usually ends up croaking at some point before the end of the set. Ok so HFOH is still a bit of a struggle and BIA suffers as he's struggling to concentrate on both the guitar line and the vocal but aside from those minor gripes his voice was as good as I've heard.
At one point I did wonder if they would use some of the camera footage for a mythical long awaited live release as it looked so good but ultimately unfortunately for us I cant see it. There would also need to be a little 'cheating' due to the lighting error at the beginning of CBC already mentioned by others, Marks usual response to being filmed during R&J, and the crackling at the end of the R&J solo.
Overall Mark seemed to be in a lovely mood and the interaction with the crowd was great, also loved the subtle humour following the lighting issue.
For those with concerts to come, you really are in for a treat and are witnessing Marks songs at their live Zenith.
Still hate the O2 though ;) ;D

Who plays cittern in Speedway? John is on violin/mandolin and Mike is on flute. Or am I missing something?
-
Richard plays bouzouki, doesn’t he?
-
Yes, Richard on Bouzouki until he changes for the Gibson. Mike on Flute throughout the complete song.
John starts on Fiddle and changes to Mandolin I guess it is, too small for a Cittern?

Yup, defo a mandolin.
To be honest, I’d forgotten about Richard. Because both of the folkies play cittern, my mind went there immediately. Wonder how close a cittern is to a bouzouki to play.

Virtually identical with an extra course of strings on the cittern (10 strings vs 8 on a zouk) its why I mixed them up....
Ashamed music teacher hangs his head....my bad...

After watching the CBS short report, with images from this concert, I asked Guy in his forum and he says that they have the footage recorded at this concert, I wonder why...
Guy had answered with evasive to questions regarding a future dvd/BR release of this tour. Would this mean, together with the fact they have the O2 footage, that they might be thinking in doing something with it?
I know there are many shelved video recordings from previous tours but, who knows?

Decent show but compared to the stuff he's been playing recently it's night and day. I wonder if any recent show has been recorded. :think
-
Is it really night and day though ? I haven't bought X 000 recordings off this tour to compare deviations in the same well rehearsed and repeated setlist but having been at the 0² and listened to many, many performances from over the years to me, I was happy. If this was released it would be a good thing.
