funny, a bootlegger complaining about fans like us sharing for free,...

Great article! The demise of the bootlegger. Nevermind, he has his job back on the construction site, thanks to fans like us! ;D

Nice one. Less than ten years ago I remember paying

Once upon a time I remember paying

I read this article earlier today, thanks to Dusty's link on Facebook.
This made me chuckle:

This guy could be a politician, asking us to be honest (we are), pay a lot of taxes (we do) while he doesn't. Same kind of job : make profit on someone else's work.
I won't blame him too much though because I've enjoyed any bootleg that I bought.
But I will also keep on sharing whatever I can share.
First thing I should do tonight when back home : look into my files and around my desk until I find something uncirculated. ;)
With compliments to my new friend Scorpio. ;D

I was spoiled, the first bootleg I bought was "Ticket to Heaven" aka the famous Basle 92 show. Great concert, great sound quality. In fact it made the official On the Night album that was released the next year sound lame in comparison.
Sadly I hought all bootlegs would be like that...
Cost

I bought a good few boot's before I became a member on MK news & I was quiet happy to pay above the odds for them. Then "Mr O Gracious one Dusty" 8) started sending me a few cd's & dvd's which has accumulated to a decent collection over the past few years.
Being a 60's child I didnt grow up with the computer era I more like grew into it so seeding, uploading on to tracker etc are like trying to solve the rubix cube for me ::) ::) ::)
In fairness these bootleggers would probably still be making a fortune if it wasnt for the internet & the honesty & goodwill of people - all good things come to an end, even for these guys :'( :'(

aaah ticket to heaven,....
or Walk on Stage,....or Texan Sunset.....or Don't Talk to Stranger etc......

Basel 92 : it took me years to get this one. ::)
I think I was at that time the only person on earth who had not seen Titanic, Jurassic Park and who didn't have a copy of Basel'92.
I never found the silver when I was ready to pay or the price was crazy.
It was not a trading priority : too easy to get, I'll request it next time. ;)

I bought the Ticket to Heaven LP box set.
I also recall buying Boston '79 from a now defunct secondhand record shop at Tollcross call Hot Wax CD's, remember it Dusty?
Sons of Light and On Every Stage - same concert. Also Once Upon A Time and News. If I remember right the News bootleg claims it is from Baltimore '84!
I bought Once Upon A Time and American Tour '85 on LP too, both having a lovely marble effect on them brown and aqua respectively.

From what I understand, the new Empress Valley Led Zeppelin releases, as well as the Mid Valley Eric Clapton releases still sell well to this day. I guess some "old school" fans still prefer the "official" silver CDs...etc...

Yes Dan, I am one of those, and the reason is quite simple, it

I assume that these label are
1) dedicated to hugely popular artist - you can add The Rolling Stones and The Beatles
2) targeted to the japanese market (and US)
3) each release made in very limited quantity
I never succeded to put my hand on one of these very expensive silvers.
Time have changed. But in the history, bootlegging has always been a "rip off story".
There two side of the medals. Some tape have been officialy released after that the record company discovered that there was a market for these recordings. On other matter there was legal issues that prevented the fan to get the stuff (the Beatles)
Even today some bootleg recording are the only access to un-truncated version (Led Zeppelin at the BBC for example) or sometimes the bootleg version can remain superior to the released version (Beatles anthology 3 does feature an erased headphone guitar track line version of "Because" whereas on the bootleg you still can hear it).
On the other hand bootleg label make profit of work made by others.
But honestly who is happy today NOT to be able to listen to any MK 2008 sbd show?
(the closet recordings should we call them).
