let's hit it. good luck for the first lucky members going to the show tonight!!
-
the actual day's show will be sticky for one day.
-
Very good idea, Pottel. It's fine to have ONE unique spoiler thread, in respect for those don't want to know.
By the way....... I'M DYING TO KNOW!!!!! hahaha!
-
Can't wait to see the setlist, can't wait to read a review .......
-
T-7 hours (+/-)
we will know more tomorrow morning.
-
6 hours and counting. :P
-
I bet you border reiver will be the opener ::) ::)
-
I bet you border reiver will be the opener ::) ::)
I hope so. It would make a great opener.
-
Woke up extra early hoping to see some reviews, setlist etc.....but must still be a tad too early. :-\
Have to go to work now, so will have to wait till tonight.
AARRGHHHHHH!!!!!!
Cheers BBB

Come on american and canadian people, give us some information, we are waiting!!
-
I
-
WE CAN GET WILD!! hehe.... ;D
I am dying to read the setlist...please...feed us...
-
They can't beat the europeans. In 2008 Pottel, Knopflerized, BBB and I were home just after midnight, wanted to post the setlist and someone already did it :)
Now hours pass and nothing :'(
-
hehe.. I remember I did the same thing during the KTGC tour with the shows in Oslo And Bergen.. I uploaded my recording from Oslo just hours after the show.. But - I bet it
-
I have been surfing every single place on the internet just to find something about the gig.Not even a twitter update about the set.
SETLIST PLEASE! We are starving here!
-
Haha GennT same here, checked twitters, facebook, searched google with all kind of words to try to find a little piece of info ::)
-
I can't wait until the Amstedam gig to see what's the setlist :P By the way I got tickets for the 28th of June! :D
I have never been like this lol, It is my first time. I am going to be on fire all tour!
-
I do the same thing...but nothing. :disbelief I can't wait, please american people, wake-up from your bed ;D
-
Even better: don't go to bed before posting something for us hungry MK-fans
-
It's one am over there, I am hoping to see Guy's and /or Isaac diary entry before they go to bed!
I am not too bothered about the set list, but I can't wait for some pics!!
-
Just looked at Local-hero website and on the Chat, Isaac was asked about the concert. The answer was "great", but nothing else. :( :-\
-
Just great!? :P :P :P :P :P :P :P
-
well, we knew THAAAT!
-
Of course we did, but there was no reply to the set-list question.
-
I have an ominous feeling we may have to wait until the Americans have been to bed! :-\
-
and after they lifted from beds: shower, beard, breakfast and job.
And after everything this we will have a set list... ;D
-
Don't they have newspapers in America? What is this nonsense!? ;D

Nooooooooo, no SFA .............
Don't really want to hear Sonny Liston
With the rest I can live and because he will not play 19 songs he can leave the 2 above.
But I prefer the 23 minutes version of TOL, so it's a 3 hours gig :D :D

No Tobben! you've made me an heart attack! Don't joke with us ;D

Tobben, you must be burned at the stake!!! You shocked me!!! :-)
-
Some positive and some negative...
Coyote is a great surprise! And several strong songs from the latest record, nice.
-
hm, Speedway again?
-
I'm really sad that there is no Get Lucky or So Far From the Clyde. Could have done without Our Shangri-La - it's been done to death! :-\
-
I
-
Obviously, SL should be replaced with a more energetic song. I'm pleased to see Prairie Wedding, a STP favourite.
But a lot is, unsurprisingly, the same. The pairs: WII/STP, R&J/SOS, SAN/TR.
They kept both Marbletown and HFB, so I would say this setlist looks stronger than the 2008 one.
-
an NOTTING from Golden Heart!? :o
-
Thanks a lot for posting, I reposted it on the Italian Forum... we had to wait a while to hear news from beyond the pond!
Nice to see Coyote and Border Reiver. ;D
-
YEHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!
-
Pretty much what we expected , Border Reiver as an opener and Piper to the end as a closer (now who says MK doesn't please the fans :P) Coyote is a nice surprise and Praire Wedding is a wonderful song and also one of my favorites can't wait to listen to it!
-
I was hoping for Cleaning My Gun but wasn't sure they were gonna play it. Like Danny's heavy drumming on that one, and the mean guitar licks of course ;D
-
Thanks for posting!
I would have preferred SFFTC to Cleaning, and I wouldn't need SAN and R&J...
More played to death than SL imho...
Well then, looking forward to the real experience ;)
-
No Get Lucky no So Far From The Clyde ......... I agree with you superval! For me these two are the essentials from the album.
Piper to The End will be change places with Going Home I hope. I remember that MK ended with if this is goodbye. Way too heavy to end with and for me a little the same with piper, it doesn't leave you with a real happy feeling.
We will see next days what is going to happen. And I also agree with Prema .. nothing from GH :'(
-
Personal reflections...
Border Reiver (good opener, although I prefer Cannibals)
What It Is (standard classic)
Sailing to Philadelphia (always magic)
Coyote (nice! IF it's fresh and has no fake synth/horn sounds)
Cleaning My Gun (YES! BLUESROCK! WHOOO!)
Hill Farmer's Blues (never liked it until I heard it live, fresh)
Romeo & Juliet (classic)
Sultans of Swing (double classic)
Marbletown (YES! BLUES! WHOOO!)
Prairie Wedding (gonna be nice to hear some more earthy/blues-like music, hope Richard provides lap steel!!
Remembrance Day (meeh, naah - I'd rather have so far from the clyde)
Speedway At Nazareth (like the energy)
Telegraph Road (yes! it's back)
Brothers in Arms (triple classic) Our Shangri-La (it's getting old, too old - and it's just five years old)
Going Home (can't live without it, but I'd rather see...)
Piper to the End (this one as second to the end, could be magic either way)
Conclusion: NO MONTELEONE... WHOOOO! ;D
But to be serious, the base, it still looks like it always has since 2001.
In the beginning, What it is and STP. The middle, R&J + Sultans. Ending, Speedway, TR and BIA. Closing, Shangri-La+Going Home.
But most of them are songs that I can't be without. I sense a more earthy/bluesy/folksy touch among the newcomers. This I like.
edit: I'm still looking for my long lost love, Portobelle Belle... *sigh*.. will we ever meet?
EDIT: some faggot modified this post... everything with --> arrow followed by comment wasn't mine
-
aaargh
shangri la. this is so boring ... for telegraph road you can put into 3 other songs, ...
too many songs we had 1000 times in the setlist.
and get lucky is a MUST.
bit disappointed honestly.
-
Don't be upset, folks.
At least FOUR songs from GL.
That's much more than what we had with SL and KTGC
-
We all have our favourites and our opinions, otherwise it would get boring around here. If the setlist stays like that for the shows I'm going to, I'll be a very happy boy. :)
-
Even better than the 2008 setlist ;D
And a miracle : the three best tracks of GL are on the setlist !
(we won't have another Silvertown Blues syndrome)
I wouldn't even ask to remove R&J, OSL, GH and PTTE.
These are not my fav and will never be.
No problem, the rest is great enough.
I'm gonna buy an extra ticket right now. ;)
-
5 new songs out of 17, and by the time he gets to Europe he will have probably dropped a couple like in 2008 with Devil baby and Daddys. For me the meat and bones has not changed which is very dissapointing.

No track from KTGC is involved this time. That's what happens to the weakest in the litter.

If you mean that in a general way you can add GH to the litter just as much... :o
-
I'm thrilled with Cleaning my gun and Prairie Wedding :o

Of course not, GH is my favourite, but I tend to grab every chance I can to bash the biggest let-down ever. It's sad not to have any GH songs, there are plenty that would benefit from the skills of McCusker and the two other folk musicians. But KTGC has "always" been the square peg in the round hole. It won't fit in, speaking in terms of playing live - entertaining (not sedating) the paying audience and not just the band members.
-
I'm thrilled with Cleaning my gun and Prairie Wedding :o
Yeah! I'm thrilled too and looking forward to hearing about their live settings!
I remember seeing a Rickenbacker lap steel in one of the rehearsal pics. Hopefully this is being used somewhere.
-
Great setlist!! :)
Cant wait to see the guys in Norway!!
I am missing 3 songs; Get lucky, Postcards from Paraguay and Money For Nothing ;D
This is going to be great!
ROCK ON!!
-
I think prairie wedding is an acoustic one, because it's played after marbletown... Like Devil Baby 2008. Not a great version...
-
I think they will drop Border Reiver and Piper to the end in Europe, because they have a pipes player on tour now...
-

Could be yes. But hopefully, no. There's too much ambience in this song I think.
Devil Baby is one of those songs that can be played acoustic and still sound great. I just can't hear the muddy Telecaster licks in PW being played on a Martin.

Or first night RAH, Paul Franklin as a special guest playing steel sigh ........

I didn't like the devil baby version of 2008... I am afraid prairie wedding is the same kind of acoustic stuff. I think we hear it soon from the people who have attended the concert ;)

Hi there folks. I have just signed in and ready to make comments :) Happy to be here! I think that set list looks good, better than I expected. I guess Border reiver will remain as a opener also in Europe, is there pipes at all? And no pipes in the record version of Piper to the end. Maybe So far from the Clyde will however be there instead of Piper. Happy to see that there isn

Welcome Silvertown! :)
-
Welcome Silvertown! :)
Thanks. About Prairie Wedding I have to guess that it might be acoustic version or even Richard playing that opening lick with Tele. Because after the main lick there is quite faboulous acoustic picking if we listen the album and maybe Mark plays acoustic?

hmmm.. I think we just have to wait and see I guess :P
Anyone here that was there?

Thank you Dutchessy for finding that review! It was wonderful to read how that person felt seeing MK for the first time. Maybe we should all jump on this guy's blog and fire questions away at him ;D
-
It came from the Markknopfler.com forum... There are a couple of fans who has attended the seattle show...
-
Still nothing else than a review? :)
What time is it in Seattle now?
-
It's 9:00 a.m. in Seattle

Would be even better if they played So Far From the Clyde when you see that the venue is actually on the river bank!
http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?hl=en&gbv=2&q=secc%20glasgow&ndsp=20&ie=UTF-8&sa=N&tab=il
I'm pretty pleased with the set and really looking forward to hearing Coyote and Prairie Wedding has long been a favourite of mine too. No So Far Away is a bonus too. Can't believe the number of you who are unhappy with Speedway - it's just made for live performances and has to be MK's best post Staits song! Remembrance Day and Brothers in the same set too, just like we all thought. Not!

Hmm, SFSL... again? Okay, the rest of the set looks okay. SFA isn't on my wishlist so I don't mind it's gone... Nice setlist imo! I hope not many songs will be kicked out after 3-5 shows. I guess HFB and Marbletown will be played to the end of the tour. Border Reiver is a great opener imo, hope it's as catchy as on the record. :)
-
And a Diary update!
Read this:
After show it was back to the hotel bar for a very congratulatory debrief. I took a few notes, a tiny set-list change, in ear mix requests...just so we don't forget at the next soundcheck.
I hope they delete Shangri-La :P :P But I think maybe they switch Piper to the end with Going home
-
I hope they switched R&J, SOS, TR, SAN for just one song: SFSL! :lol :lol :lol I guess Coyote will disappear from the setlist very soon... :(

Yes, and especially after Isaac's comment about how they went over the two hour mark slightly and may have gone past the union staff curfew.
Argh.
-
How did you guys know about the screen? I really like it a lot to have some visual variation during the shows.... But it seems Pottel has seen them before?
BTW, thanks for posting the set list! My willingness of staying away from this forum lasted exactly 30 seconds.... :disbelief ::)
I like the set list. Bigger changes would have been great, but could really not have been expected to be honest."Coyote" is great, it seems he has rediscovered how great the Ragpicker's Dream really is... And I am really happy that "Hill Farmer's Blues" survived the last tour - a fact that hasn't been
praised enough here in my opinion! And apart from "Before Gas & TV", a song I would have loved to hear, I am very pleased with all the new stuff! Looking forward even more excited to my two shows now! :lol

WOW. Just read everything. :o
I got up early this morning to find out some info, but like everyone else, nothing. :-\
I've just got back from work, but in my lunch break i could wait no more.
So i texted Ingrid for the setlist. She kindly obliged immediately. ;D ;D ;D
To be honest, i'm really happy with the list. Nice to see they've kept my fave from last tour HFB's.
I'm looking forward to seeing the setlist evolve, especially as they rehearsed 32 songs, even though i know if it does change it will only be minimal.
I'm off now to read as many reviews, pics etc.... as possible.
Thanks everyone for the info so far. :)
Cheers BBB :)

I lasted a good 4 hours! ;D It took half a bottle of wine to push over the "hey, what the heck" edge! I am still going to enjoy the shows I'm seeing though!

My guess for the setlist "cut": They cut "Prairie Wedding" (which would be sad), and replace it probably by ....DONE WITH BONAPARTE (which would be BAD)
Let's see what happens tomorrow...

First of all a serious question to Pottel, Dan and others who know everything about computers! I tried to get access today several times to AMIT, but it didn't work. I got the message that there were problems with loading the pages ( I use Firefox). It drove me crazy because I wanted to read and know what was happening! I wonder if one of you know what went wrong and what I have to do? Lucky I can be here now, but hope I won't have this problem tomorrow again. :'( (I wonder if more people had this problem. Pottel if you want you can mail me so this thread will stay clean)
To all the new people who joined us here at AMIT I would like to say WELCOME, it's great to see so many people posting! Although it takes hours to read for me now! ;)
Dear Nat..........I knew you couldn't stay away for days or weeks! LOL ;D
Reading the list I LOVE and am excited that Border Reiver, Hill Farmer

Hey, Isaac mentioned that Mark "decided to spice things up a bit by throwing in some brilliant Fender Stratocaster riffs into the mix" in Border Reiver. Now that sounds interesting!
And STP as a duet. God, I'm so angry it seems that I will miss this tour :'(
-
I'm not a huge fan of STP but I was happy to hear it will be a duet this time -- that will be different and I'm looking forward to it :)
-
One of the two new band members (not sure which one now) does the second vocals part. So only the Americans/Canadians will be able to enjoy this new version I am sure.

In fact, I thought it was amazing that this avatar is offered officially in this forum, so I couldn't resist picking it :lol

OK.
This thread has been read more than 1000 times already. So there is a lot of tension and exitement in the air of course. I myself now want to know:
In what state was MK last night? Was he relaxed, happy, grumpy, stressed, whatever? How was his guitar playing? Some nice new solo stuff, or some
small mistakes? What shirt did he wear? :lol Was the whole show brought onto the big screen that were seen in Guy's diary? Lots of questions! And I hope
there will be some visual stuff, let's say some youtube clips in not too distant future, even though PC is fighting against it. So there is a great prospect
for the next few days!
That could have made me a little... run riot! So sorry for Britney, but not sorry for having a good time here! Get Lucky Tour 2010, come on!
LE
-
Actually, it doesn't matter to go OT here, does it?
The setlist has been posted and that's what attracted many new members to AMIT...
So, that's all it was about, right? ;D
-
Now start a topic about concert 2? ;D
-
agree filz, a little off topic is ok, fooling around is ok, a lot of excitement around here which makes us go off-on-off-on-off-on topic
I like it :D I am getting addicted to be here over 16 hours a day I think ::)
-
Well said LE!
And the girlie stuff (shirt) is not negligible, either ;D
Some guitar stuff is described in Isaac's blog, by the way.
You were not the only one running riot ;) - and I'm sure so did PC last night... (and will do fo 88 more)!
Dutchessy, yes, indeed! Pottel - are you putting it up???

Oh lord, I wasn't upset! I didn't read the beginning of the thread and was just giving my humble opinion on the little blonde. No, I'm laughing like crazy. Sorry if I made anyone feel bad. I guess I'd better read the whole thread before I post. If little Britney makes Allen feel better, that's great. It'll be the first useful thing she's done. ;D ;D ;D
-
It's really important to know: boxers, briefs, or commando. Now don't get upset with me. I'm still laughing. ;D ;D
-
Haha, I fear BS will not make Allen feel better, but us seeing folling around I hope so.
-
agree filz, a little off topic is ok, fooling around is ok, a lot of excitement around here which makes us go off-on-off-on-off-on topic
I like it :D I am getting addicted to be here over 16 hours a day I think ::)
I have spent so much time on MK forums today that I got nothing productive done -- in terms of work. With the excitement of the tour starting, I found it impossible to concentrate on work today.
Like LE, I have so many questions. What was he wearing? Did he get a new shirt for this tour? Very important questions that need to be answered ....... anyone? ::) ::) ::)
-
LMAO here.
It's so great to be here indeed!
Allen, I hope you get well immediately for Britney's sake!
I can only echo joanzimm... A terrible day! ;)
I would also like to see some pictures and read more details; not necessarily about his boxers, though :P
Have I said before that I'm not that enthusiastic about the diaries, blogs and notes?
It's nice of those guys to write them, but 85% is not what I have in the main focus (again, not referring to the boxers, IrisRose ;D )
-
I like most of the songs played last night!!!!! And thanks to BS' fake, I'm feeling much better today. :lol
-
Most? Which ones not, allen?
Just curious... Glad to hear you feel better today!! :)
Thumbs up for that huge stone we've seen on youtube...... :P
But I'm sure it's only the MK excitment that makes you feel so good!

So far from the Clyde instead of Our Shangri-La ? That would be perfect, in my opinion!!!

Agree, too! :)

I agree too! I am very tired of OSL now. It was great to hear in 2005, but I hope it will be replaced with something new. So Far From the Clyde would be perfection! :)

Recent tweet from Isaac Shabtay:
WOW x10. What a concert! Slightly different set and MAN does the sound rock in the Queen Elizabeth Theatre! Driving back to Seattle now.
-
I'm intrigued! Can't wait for a full review! :D
-
therefore this thread is no longer sticky, but vancouver is,...for the day..

WOW, what a great setlist ! Great to actually for the 1st time since the GH album in '96 see that he uses the album opener also as concert opener. Can't wait to hear both Border Reiver and Cleaning My Gun live. Also glad to see TR still in the setlist, but am curious as to how he playes the song this tour ... any info on how long he playes the National before switching to electric ?
I agree though with many people on here that, and I love that song, Our Shangri-La should be replaced with So Far From The Clide !!

Yes, I'm intrigued to know the arrangement on TR this time round too. Perhaps Isaac can furnish us with this information..? Hint, hint... ;)
