WOW x10. What a concert! Slightly different set and MAN does the sound rock in the Queen Elizabeth Theatre! Driving back to Seattle now.
And 1 picture before the show...

What does "slightly different" mean???
Maybe fisrt Piper and then GH? ;D
Come on, are the Canadians even sleepier than the Americans? :o

Update!

The sound was perfect, but what definitely made this show for me is the surprising set-list change. I mentioned yesterday that there were a couple of songs I couldn

WOW! He must have read the markknopfler forum, I wrote about 100 times that I would love to hear this song live!
-
Lovely! :D Maybe the set-list will change with each concert. 8)

This is going to be the ultimate MK-tour EVER! With fantastic setlists and Guy has confirmed that the big screen in the back of the stage will be on every concert!
I am in heaven!! LOVE YOU MARK!!

Yes! Golden Heart track is included!
KTGC is still and undisputable the weakest album for live performance.

I take it there was a track dropped for A Night In Summer...
-
Setlist was: minus Prairie Wedding, plus Night in summer long ago, plus boneparte
And the screen apparently displays a very special camera..anyone mind when i tell y'all?
-
Oh no, not Bonaparte again! :o

Tell me... Guitarcam you mean? I read that in Isaacs blog...

So a longer set then. Great! :D Due to no curfew rules in Canada? If so, we can hope for 2 hr 15 minutes sets in Europe.
-
Bonaparte again! ;D Yeahhhhhhhhhh 8)
-
Can someone please post the setlist with all the songs in the right order as in the thread for the 1st concert ?
ANISLA isn't my favorite GH song, but still great he played it live again after 14 years !
-
A Night In Summer isn't one of my absolute favorites from the album, but was IMO one of the best on the GF tour. It would be nice to hear it again live.

Not true... He played it in 2005 in Johannesburg I guess?

I've checked the Local Hero site and you seem to be correct indeed. Never noticed that before .. are there any recordings from that concert ?
-
Hmm... I'd rather have PW than these two GH songs. That's just my personal opinion though, but I think PW is a beautiful song and wasn't excited at all when I read about these two.
-
Most likely, there will be more changes to the setlist in the beginning of the tour, which has been the usual routine. But if he keepis changing it round, that means that there are more interesting bootlegs to look for and I'm sure it's fun for the band too. I prefer PW to Night in Summer but what the heck, with the new players I'm not surprised.
-
Whaauww in the thread of yesterday I already mentioned that playing A Night In Summer Long Ago would be wonderful and now they did! :P........The vision I get with this song!! ;D
Mark dressed like a Knight who ask me for a dance and want to ride with me on his horse upon a hill? :P ......Asking "Why do you love me lady, why? :o ...Ok, I will stop drooling now! ROFL ;D
Great song and I am glad that he played it, but a pity that Prairie Wedding wasn't played, because I like that one as well! Perhaps PW can be back instead of Bonaparte, I heard that one often enough!
I also hope to hear more news about this show very soon!

Most likely the changes later on in the tour will include all three songs being dropped and going straight from Marbletown to RD. ::)

Pessimistic or realistic? :) Just experience of past tours, alas.
To be more optimistic then ;) I think I read in Isaac's blog that the songs were slightly more up tempo compared to the last tour which is a good thing.

Great! The tour needs to be more uptempo, this is what's been lacking the past years. I've felt that the songs aren't kicking into gear quite as they used to. Sitting down and playing is great, when you're playing say, Sonny Liston... otherwise, not.
I applaude this...
And btw, Bonaparte... I've always liked this. What I don't like anymore is that you can mime the introduction with jokes.
"Yeah, they're all great."
"Guy's gonna play guitar."
"Glenn brings his enormous instrument to *city*"
"It's you and me Richard, the rest - good luck"

Oh yes, a Guitarcam seems to be a really great idea. And in my view it is a sign that MK his really caring about the visitors of his shows. The same thing applies IMO for the setlist change and the whole trouble about that. MK wants to play songs that he is passionate about and likes to arrange a mixture that fits together as well as a certain dramaturgy. You can't please them all so he likes do decide on his own what to play. And I really like the fact, that the other band members are a part of the process and can suggest songs.
I'd never thought in 2008, that HFB is such a great live track and so the new additions to the setlist won't be disappointing, I suppose.
EDIT: Typo in: You can't please them all...

I don't like the change, prairiewedding was a little more original. I am done with Bonaparte :(
But I do like the addition of A night in Summer! My fave album GH is in the setlist now :)
-
Ha, ha: "I don't like the change..." And all this talk about fans wanting the set lists to change. It's really impossible to please MK's fans. :lol
-
I know Mossguitar but you must admit that Prairiewedding is muc more original than Bonaparte
-
Let's swap Speedway and Telegraph with Quality Shoe and Fare Thee Wll Northumberland
and then the setlist is perfect
No!!! He can't swap his two best live songs with one of his least good songs (QS). Fare The well, though, I would have wanted to hear.
-
I can't believe they play Done With Bonaparte again. What is it that MK has with this song? Of course it is a great song, but played a bazillion times -
don't get me wrong, the set list is really nice, I am looking forward to the shows. But Prairie Wedding was always a favourite of mine, and it would have
been nice if it would be played more often. I just imagine the situation after the first show:
MK: "Somehow it didn't work for me after "Prairie"...
GF: "So we should maybe change a thing there..."
MK: "Yes, maybe we should. any suggestions?"
Band: "Portobello! Tunnel of Love! WHERE DO YOU THING YOU'RE GOING..."
PC: "I would like Silvertown Blues..."
MK: "Hmmm Hmmm...(thinking looooong and carefully....)
---
Then:
MK: "I have an idea folks. How about "DONE WITH BONAPARTE?"
Band: "Great....." :( :( :( :( :-\ :-\ :-\ :'( :'( :'( :disbelief :disbelief :disbelief
Maybe not.

Of course ;)

You're on to something... maybe not as you described it, but I get the feeling that DWB is MK's "safe choice"... whenever there's something that seems wrong then Bonaparte gets tossed in because it's well known (and well played) by the band.
Instead of exploring what "new ground" may feel like, apparently MK backs away and takes the easy way out...
And with adding Bonaparte once more you could have seen any STP/SL show, been in a coma for some years and when you're going this year, it's almost the same.
Safety - not the funniest option :disbelief

Yes, because during those tours he played Border riever, Cleaning my gun, Marbletown, Rememberence day, Hillfarmers blues, coyote, piper to the end and Prairie Wedding at every concert. Sorry border_riever, I know you are unhappy with something, but this doesn't make sense.

On the contrary, I'm very very satisfied with the setlist. But as you said earlier, it's very difficult to please all MK fans. In the Seattle post I just pointed out that the core remains the same and has been over the past years.
DWB is one of those in the base, but could easily get replaced with for example Portobello Belle, using the same settings.
Those tracks you're mentioning are fresh and highly welcome. I'm just reflecting about the choices... Wouldn't it be nice if MK put The man's too strong or Portobello Belle (or similar that has been either rehearsed or played since the solo tours began in -96) instead of DWB, for just once?
edit: duly note the "almost" in "almost the same"

OK, I agree with you on that. I just got fed up with all the negativeness. (Not only from you) Sorry.
-
Remember that OES was on the list for the RPD tour (with the pedal steel, which MK apparently finds must used in that song), and Man's Too Strong was rehearsed in 2008. I would love to hear both of those songs, and it's nice that he considered them. But what about playing?
After all, must of us only visit one or a couple of shows, but I want setlists changing because then we have more recent live versions of different songs to listen to forever and ever on bootleg.
-
I don't think there is much negativeness in these threads, quite the contrary! When a set is mentioned, it is normal that everybody shouts "Ah, Oh, why
not this or that..." But I think it is a good atmosphere all in all. 44 replies and more than 400 views from this morning is great I think! The forum is really
buzzing at the moment, because it is touring time! I like that very much and missed it during 2008 in that other forum...

Only two concerts gone so maybe there is still time for more songs. I still pray for OES! :)
-
I know I'm being negative at times, but I stand for it ;D
I like the open minded atmosphere around here and that everyone is entitled to their opinion.
I'm feeling lots of excitement over the new fresh songs being played, rumours of the whole set being more uptempo (well maybe not BIA).. it would be quite fair to most of the fans for MK to let in some fresh air once and a while.
But as a friend of mine said the other day, the day he stops playing Sultans - that's it :lol
-
Personally, I'm just happy for the prospect of hearing Border Reiver, Coyote, and Cleaning My Gun live. You can't go to these shows and expect them not to play the usual hits.
-
Bonaparte again! ;D Yeahhhhhhhhhh 8)
One of Mark's best songs live, without a shadow of a doubt!
-
Also looking at that set list looks great!
Just think of all the Guitar lead MK will be playing with those songs (it's what most of us look forward to).
I just hope big time that MK has cranked up Sultans a little in pace, although I doubt it cos even Mark himself at the hurlingham gig said that he used to play it a little quicker!
Either way I'm so excited cos my mum is gonna get to see Mark live for the first time :)
-
I hope he doesn't drop Cleaning My Gun -- I think that song could really take off with an extended guitar solo. I'm hoping ;D

There are plenty in the list that I like. It will be great to hear STP, Marbletown, TR.
The starters and enders are good and the filling in between is good - So roll on RAH
If there are 3 or 4 that you love, a few more that you like -that's good enough for me

I am taking my mum with me to Oberhausen. It's the second time she joins me. Never joined me in DS time but now she likes it a lot

And here it is for everyone, I think we should include the complete setlist in every concertthread this tour. Easy for everyone.
1. Border Reiver
2. What It Is
3. Sailing to Philadelphia
4. Coyote
5. Cleaning My Gun
6. Hill Farmer's Blues
7. Romeo & Juliet
8. Sultans of Swing
9. Marbletown
10. A Night in Summer Long Ago
11. Done with Bonaparte
12. Remembrance Day
13. Speedway At Nazareth
14. Telegraph Road
15. Brothers in Arms
16. Our Shangri-La
17. Going Home
18. Piper to the End
Not entirely correct. The correct order was:
1. Border Reiver
2. What It Is
3. Sailing to Philadelphia
4. Cleaning My Gun
5. Coyote
6. Hill Farmer's Blues
7. Romeo & Juliet
8. Sultans of Swing
9. A Night in Summer Long Ago
10. Done with Bonaparte
11. Marbletown
12. Remembrance Day
13. Speedway At Nazareth
14. Telegraph Road

Hey Jeroen!
Thanks a lot for keeping us informed.
Interesting changes.
So they changed the order of Cleaning My Gun and Coyote? Also A Night In Summer Long Ago directly after Sultans? Sounds very interesting.
One burning question: How is Cleaning My Gun? Any other arrangements than on the record? Some solo or something? Pleeeeeze... ::) ::)

Aaah, so it's a bootleg ting! :) Now I see! Well I'm not a bootleg person, just a concert person. ;) So maybe that's why it's not that important to me to have lots changes during the tour. But of course I want changes between tours. But the only real disappointment I've experienced when it comes to MK and set-lists, is that the STP tour was too similar to the OES tour.

Yepp, fairly similar, I think. And in Oslo, which was were I was, they left out Sailing, Money for nothing came before Brothers in arms (I think) and they ended with Going Home - making it even more similar to the OES set list. (They didn't play Prairie Wedding either, but Wag The Dog).
-
Yeah, my list was from Hamburg, June 2001. During that tour there were more set list changes than at tours afterwards. They also played Long Highway, and as you said Wag the Dog which I never have heard live. 2006 and 2008 saw more or less (!) the same set list. It would be cool if there were some
changes during this tour, just to keep things fresh for the band - and for the bootlegging fraction! ;)

But when do we get to hear the recordings from these shows? :P I can

They did again 2 changes I think.
