Knopfling will be there tonight. It's 8 am here in CA. I'm soooooooooooooo very sad I couldn't make it out there with her. She offered me the extra ticket.
Linda, (knopfling) I hope you meet Mark tonight. You were that close at Temecula. If I were just 2-3 minutes faster to meet you at the stage door in Temecula, Both our dreams would have come true !!!!! :'(
HO ho ho hooo I'm crying again !!!
-
Ooooohhh Sweetsurrender, please don't cry!! :o :-*
Hey Knopfling I wish you a WONDERFUL time at the concert tonight and when you have a change to meet Mark, as you did with Glenn, Richard and Matt a few years ago, then please give Mark a BIG HUG on behalf of me too! ;D
You all are in my thoughts! ;)

Hmm, well, they are still changing. No real new songs but it's not the same show every night. :D

I hope I'll hear "Coyote" at one of my concerts. I much prefer it to "Cleaning My Gun" played live. :)

Same for me.
I like "Cleaning My Gun" in studio version, but it could be better in live IMO.

It's not that I don't like "Cleaning My Gun", I love it on the album, but just like you, I think it needs a bit of practice in concert, so that's why I prefer "Coyote" live, which sounded wonderful! :)

I want that too!

Good to hear, superval! :D
Hope you're well! ;)

Its interesting how the live dynamic changes some songs. I really dislike coyote on the album but the live versions sounds great. On the other hand CMG is one of my favourites on Get Lucky and I was looking forward to hearing it live but it seems a bit uninspired. Maybe just listening to bootlegs gives a bad impression. MK seems to have abandoned stretching himself on solos now. Shame.
-
and agree with the shouts re rememberance day. Sounds great love. Hope he hasn't dumped it. Wonder what the other 12 or so tracks were that got practiced but haven't appeared.
-
I hope to hear Remembrance Day too. I think we may have some changes in the set list in UK and Europe, because of band members being slightly different. Who knows what we may expect! :)
-
I want to hear "So Far From The Clyde" :'(
He could drop anything for that ;D

Agree!!
It's good to have you here GoldenHeart :P :-*

Yes! So Far From The Clyde would be marvellous!
Would like to meet you both, superval99 and goldenheart96.
Um... Looking at your nick-year-adds I consider you are both too young to travel... ;D

Right!!!!!! :D
When did you change your mind, GH ?? ??? ;D

Well, I've picked up so many hints and spoilers I felt like I already knew half of the setlist anyway... And then yesterday evening I got heavily spoiled by sweetsurrender's "Piper" video. I was really pissed and decided now it doesn't matter anymore... So I had a "momentary lapse of reason" and just clicked on the setlist compilation thread... After all those negative impressions I feared the worst but the opposite happened. Now I'm almost glad I peeked. "Border Reiver" was my secret dream opening song and I was so happy to discover he plays it :)
Now all that's missing is "So Far From The Clyde". Was listening to that song on my way to work this morning and was so into it I almost forgot to get out of the tram ;D

Yes, I am only a baby, LOL! ;D Maybe you are going to a UK or Dublin gig? :)

I may be wrong but I don't think they've played it since Oakland and that's where Richard made his mistake at the beginning where he forgot his capo. Read his diary and he says he has a lot to remember before that song (change of guitar, move stool, capo on etc) so maybe they decided to drop it for that reason rather than move the set-list around to accommodate it?

Very true! They should do all songs playback anyway, so they wouldn't make any mistakes anymore! :disbelief

So do I, but if I had to choose........it would be Coyote at the moment, unless CMG becomes better played live as the tour goes on! :)
-
Okay, I'm listening to a recording of "Coyote" right now and it doesn't sound as boring as it does on the record... :)
"Speed I do, speed I do, speed I do..."
-
It's funny, the live version of Coyote sounds like a cheap impression of the studio version to me. Not bad at all, but slightly less strong.
-
Funny, I was about to say the opposite.
They can play anything live and it's simply better than studio versions...
Even the ones I don't like on the setlist turn out great listening to the recordings.
And they will be even better attending the show!!!!! ;D

it's amazing how hearing songs performed live give you a different feel and you never listen to that song the same way again. Case in point, "coyote" I never give it much play at home, but when I heard it live, OMG, how different it sounds. I love it now.
I was hoping to hear " cleaning my gun", Mark did that song to a thunderous roar.
" remembrance day" was just as beautiful as it sounds on the Cd.
The point is, if you can afford to go to see Mark every night, then you'll get different feels for each song. ( don't we all wish ) I love the way they do their setlist on this tour. 1 or 2 different songs each night.
Now I'll never listen to "piper" the same way ever again.
Mark's playing is so sublime that it doesn't matter what he plays, they will all be brilliant !!!
I'd die to see Mark again and again and again for the rest of my life.

Hey, I've had a chance to listen to Cleaning now and I think the version from April 17 is really smoking! There's a video on Youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JM0awNJDxQQ (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JM0awNJDxQQ)
The sound is so-so of course, but with a better recording I'm sure it would sound excellent. More energy than on the album, I don't see what people are going on about. The singing is full of energy too.
Edit: Funny! The video sound is actually better than the other version on Youtube, it's full of bass but it gives the performance a lot more power.
-
Thanks for posting the video, Tallgren. I am really hoping to hear him play CMG live -- it's one of my favorite songs on GL. It really doesn't matter that much to me what he plays at the concerts I'm attending. I know I'm going to be in heaven listening to him for 2 hours regardless. :-*
-
Glad to be of assistance ;)

I've enjoyed both Coyote and Cleaning My Gun live. Both come to life much more than on the CD. They're much more fun live, and the audiences seem to really like each of them.

Linda, is there a chance for a full review from you ?
-
Well, if I look back at the studio recordings, I skipped marbletown most of the time. The live versions are awesome, one of the highlights of each show and I'm looking forward to hear that song again! :)
-
too bad the man refuses to play old pigweed or camerado or If i had you, or my claim to fame (aaahhhh) or Long highway (after a long abscence, still my favorite live song) or No can do, or how long or Do america, or Fade to Black (again) or....
-
Pottel, that ones are not obvious songs for a concert, but, So far from the Clyde, that song should be played, it

Great concert this is .... and may I add that the solo-ing during CMG is really excellent ;D
-
Re. Coyote. This was never a fave of mine on the album, but absolutely LOVING the live version.
It seems to have a great groove, and love some of the sounds coming from Guys keys. :)
Cheers BBB

Tallgren I am too late, it seems the video is deleted at Youtube! :'( ..........Well perhaps it will be back soon! ::)
Quote Sweetsurrender: "I'd die to see Mark again and again and again for the rest of my life. "
Uuuhhhh dear sweetsurrender that is funny! ;D IF you would see Mark again and again, you would die, but uuhhh that means your life wouldn't last long then!!!! :o ......You better watch him on TV and during concerts, so we can enjoy your messages a bit longer! ;D
