Who is Ygnwie?   And I reserve the right to vote over, now that Duane Eddy is there.    And how can Eric Clapton have more votes that Mark Knopfler on a Mark Knopfler forum?

ops, I forgot to vote the old Scotsman  ;D. To be serious, I think that MK could be deleted from this list. I'm pretty sure all the people who joins this forum has MK in his/her top 5 guitarists' list (at least I hope so). By the way, who is John Petrucchi? :D

Yngwie's a shredder, Marie, I think from Sweden (one of the Scandinavian countries anyway), along the style of Satriani I think. Highly respected but not ordinarily to my taste. I go for style more than speed...although, personal opinion, Eric Johnson has both...(although his lyrics leave a lot to be desired).

Please add Paul Casey (www.paulcaseymusic.com)  This guy rocks!!  First saw him supporting Chris Rea on his Blue Guitars tour.  Amazing song writer, and plays some good guitar too!

Agreed on Ygnwie. But after MK, Paul Simon is probablt the most influential guitarist for me. He is actually an AMAZING fingerstyle acoustic guitarist, most notably on the early Simon and Garfunkel stuff. He got a hand injury later on which curtailed him a bit.

Check out some of these, you can download the whole of this show on TTD

Mark Knopfler (a big surprise  ;D)
Jimi Hendrix (well...as Eric Clapton, he is faster than MK but it is not everything at all...MK is real musician for me)
Eric Clapton (what a musician!! A like his version of "I shot The Sheriff" for example, his style is great!!!)

But I also miss Tommy Emmanuel here...

I agree with a couple others that I'd need Duane Eddy on there. He was the first one to make me really listen to guitar music.

He's there!

I've voted, even though Albert Lee still isn't there.

By the way, I see that Paul Casey made the Ryder Cup team, is as good at guitar as he is at golf?

Isn't it complete insanity people are voting for the best guitarist(s) on an MK-site?

My 5 votes go to Mark Knopfler, no discussion please  :D

Um, Alvin Lee or Albert Lee? Two different people!

Albert Lee plays with MK on the tribute to the king show, and I think at the Lonnie Donegan tribute as well.

:)  Same name different man.  www.paulcaseymusic.com  I think he is great.  He is just still a little undiscovered.

Please tell me not putting MIKE OLDFIELD on the list is a slight oversight?

A nice poll - thread, feel obliged to 'wake it up" for new members. I believe that it should have been a different kind of poll, with a system of placed (first -second etc) and voting for as many as you like. But it will do the trick as it is. Voted for the ones that didn't get the attention they deserved, even if I like some others better.

Anyone here, who likes Joe Bonamassa ? I`ve got his latest album Driving towards the Daylight and like it a lot ! OK, depends on my mood, I don`t like listening to it as often as to Mark`s albums, JB is so different from MK, but good album IMO.

yes I like him. a little bit between SRV / J.Beck / G.Moore

I saw his gig at Rockpalast.
very good version of Blind faith's "had a cry today", great tone, some Jeff beck's quotes here and there
his bassist is awesome !

I have his album "black rock", not listen to very often, but very good though

Cant believe Peter Frampton is not in the list...

Having only 5 votes, I don't think you'd have a chance to cast a vote for Frampton. He is good but would hardly make my 50 best guitarists list.
